Re: lolMiner-144 0.38 Preview, Equihash 144.5 for AMD & Nvidia, Linux & Windows
by

on 06/07/2018, 01:12:46 UTC
I have the following situations with my 2 rigs:

Rig 1: 2 R9 390, 1 R9 Fury, 2 GTX 1070, 1 GTX 1060, only recognize AMD platform, and mine good. Windows 10 Pro 1709 Blockchain Driver AMD, and Geforce 391.35 nvidia GPUs.

Rig 2: 3 RX 580, 1 RX 480, 1 RX 570, 1 R9 290, miner closes and restarts in a infinite bucle, sometimes the rig crashes. Windows 10 Pro 1709 Blockchain Driver. GPUs are NOT modded.

Any help thanks. I will update Geforce Drivers for Rig 1, it is so old, and try again.

As for rig1:

To run it on Nvidia test out the "PLATFORM" parameter in the config file. Allowed entries are: "PLATFORM":"AUTO" and "PLATFORM":.
In the 2nd case see that there are no parentesis. Wjen it is "AUTO" the miner will select the driver with the most GPUs in your system. When its a number N it will run on the Nth found OpenCL driver in your system, so you can use that to switch between AMD and Nvidia (note: there can be also Intel drivers out there, so can be that you have to test numbers 0 to 2.)

As for rig 2: can you open command line, go to lolMiner directiory and run lolMiner-144.exe -benchmark=BTG? Then it will try to do a BTG test run on your system. If it failes you can then see the error message without the script restarting the miner infinitely often.

For Rig 1: I try 0 1 2, and always mine AMD only, AMD GPU (390) it is connected to a HDMI dummy. I think that the miner does not detect nvidia GPUs. I update drivers to the last ones and no change.

For Rig 2:

PS C:\Users\*****\Desktop\lolMiner-144_v038_Win64> ./lolMiner-144.exe -benchmark=BTG

Re: ASIC MINERS 101 - NO ROI - OVERSOLD TO MARKET - POOR PROFIT - SCAMMERS
by
Dr_Thrax

ASIC manufacturers do not care about cryptocurrencies technology, neither markets, the only one concern of these enterprises it is to make money. They do not care if they destroys coins, algos, markets. They develop ASIC devices, use it in secrecy (For community, for Devs no sometimes), and finally sold these devices as "new", but then and only after then, mine coins with it, take huge profit (Destroying coins, markets), also then recover the units cost and make another additional profit, with fools that buy these ASIC, but when start to mining it is too late to make profit, even no factible.

The problems with ASICs, aint ASICs, it is the monopoly behind it.

This works great on my 1080ti (52mh at 180w) but not that great on 2 1080s (31mh at 100w). even a slightest memory overclock on 2 1080s crashes my PC. is there any way to make this software only run on selected GPUs?

1080TI = DDR5X = works
1080 = DDR5 = doesn't work.

You'll have to run separate instances or set clock/mem speed in your miner's configuration files.

1080 GDDR5 does not exists, ALL 1080s are GDDR5x. And for mine EVGA 1080 FTW DT 8GB does not work too.

Re: Venezuela Free Electricity Mining 2018. GPU or ASICS
by
Dr_Thrax
on 27/05/2018, 17:00:19 UTC
"Free" in Venezuela´s Socialism of Century XXI, means that all services will colapse (actually this is occurring), energy is not  a exception, soon as you can imagine, there will be electricity shutdowns for many hours or a day, a couple of days, and increasing. Another factor is the poor quality of internet services, extreme low speeds, that national company of internet CANTV will never upgrade, and additional, there is also internet shutdowns, and the goverment eventually when they want can block the access to pools, exchanges or any site they want. The next factor that is included in "Free Electricity" is that the govenrment, political police called SEBIN and like FBI in America in Venezuela is called CICPC, these institutions are mainly highly corrupted and penetrated by gangs, that already know this activity is profitable and produce their favorite US$$, and they are following so close the steps of miners (little and big), traders, hardware sellers, in order to steal equipment, and comit kidnapping and extorsion.

Thus, call it "Free" in Venezuela, you may probably may have to do a better look at.

Anyone have some idea how the hell is bitmain made first ethereum asic and now for equihash, did they make some new chip that can be reprogramed?Yeah i get it that they made a lot of money last year and that can spend it on devs but i am more interested if there is new chip because it can probably be used on most algos and kill gpu mining Undecided Also good luck to those who got in on the first batch

They have money, motivation, smart people. That is it. They are not going to kill gpu mining. That idiot over at Ethereum Vitalik Buterin is going to kill gpu mining with PoS on ETH. Once those gpus shift... oh boy.

That is so wrong, Vitalik will kill ETH switching to PoS, and GPU mining will stay for a very long time, remember that GPU can mine a lot of algos, and can be created new ones to mine. That is not the same reality to ASIC devices.

^ he gets it. ASIC is a better option. Bitmain is the problem. Not the computer. Just need more companies. Which more and more are showing up these days. Bitmain wont be able to do this much longer.

Personally I prefer GPUs, the multi algo versatility, allows you to mine a wide variety of coins, hold it, and make so much higher profits that mining only 1 algo.

In order to be more fast and power efficient, ASIC chips untill I now can only make one task following an only way. That is why I prefer GPUs with tech like CUDA and OpenCL, these tech allows you to make any task, any way, slower and more power to do the process, but you have versatility.

The price/performance ratio it is ridiculous, you have to invest about 6-7 times more to get the same power with GPUs (1080 Ti) (Power requirement is ridiculous too). Hence this only increase the suspicious of another SCAM, like cryptonight ASIC, right now those things are huge, heavy and very expensive paperweights. Furthermore ASIC will increase dramatically network´s difficulty, and if the price can not hold the rhythm, the coin will die. People, you need to understand, that the problem is not ASIC devices, the problem is that the manufacturing of these is kidnaped by Bitmain, and them do not care about cryptocurrencies, mining or something related, (except BTC), they only want to sell their devices. If these destroys every coin, market in its path, and hence ASIC buyers ROI, it is no about their concern.

Re: Claymore's ZCash AMD GPU Miner - DRIVERS
by

For R9 Fury 3GB Fiji GPU only works 15.12, another driver will get 0 H/s. For R9 300 and 200, I recommend AMD Blockchain Drivers, best performance for all algos. The problem I you have a rig with R9 Fury with 15.12 driver, I will be great for equihash, but for ethash you will get a low hashrate due this driver does not have DAG fix. For RX 400 and 500  Blockchain driver or Adrenalin.

I thought 16.3.2 was the optimal driver for the Equihash R9 Fury? Not sure though if this will also work for ETH.

16.3.2 for Fury X, and will work with ETH, but due this driver version does not have DAG Fix, hashrate will be lower and droping.

Ah...you got another option with more specific experience to your cards. -OP

Currently mining ETH but system is really unstable while using r9 fury x in combo with r9 290. Keeps having Temp control errors or OpenclCALL errors on the fury x. Solo mining with fury is no problem, strange.

Hashrates eth 31 on stock clocks max is 36 ( 1200mhz core )545 ram
Equihash 490 stock clocks and max 510.

these errors are also on stock clocks so its not about my overclock thats unstable.

r9 290
Eth 30 (1040mhz core 1250mhz mem)
Equihash 330 sols/s

Buddy, I always liked R9 owner, that's really cool. I have a few R9 series (290,290X,390,390x) and 16.9.2 giving me the best performance on those all card.

Another story - my friend (that I mentioned above) use hybrid driver (may I need to ask him back which driver source that used) to combine Fury with R9 390 in one rig.

This combined driver will be great for me I have a rig with Fury 390s and 290s. The 390s and 290s with blockchain driver works great (equihash, ethash, cryptoning, neoscrypt and others), but still the issue with equihash and Fury (0 H/s). 15.12 as I said above, good at all, but mining ETH, ETC, nicehash ethash, low hashrate.
