Re: Solo miners, is there any advantage doing this

The advantage? Sure, if you hit a block, you get the entire reward without sharing. The problem? You might wait years or forever before finding anything with normal hardware.
Solo mining on 'bitcoin' I tried it once and wasted electricity for two months with zero rewards. It's like playing the lottery with your power bill.

 Meanwhile, pool miners as a big group of miner lets say most of them are usually earn consistent payouts.

Re: Bitcoin Adoption 2025: How Close Are We to Mass Everyday Use?
by
Dread Pirate Roberts

people have heard of Bitcoin; some invest, but using it daily? I very much doubt anyone's ready for that.
In some countries it's prohibited; in others, heavily regulated with specific conditions.

Bitcoin's too volatile for groceries. Who spends something today that might be worth 15% more tomorrow?
Mass adoption needs simplicity and stability. We have neither yet.  but mightbe stable coin could take over this role if it really happens.

Crypto Scams of 2025: What to Watch Out For
by

wanted to share some observations on the latest scams making rounds. We've all been burned or know someone who has , right?

Watch out for these trending scams:

AI-powered "trading bots" promising impossible returns (one claimed 1.2% DAILY - yeah right!)
Fake airdrops requiring "validation" of your wallet (they just want your seed phrase)
"Exclusive investment groups" where admins pump tokens before rugpulling
Sophisticated phishing targeting hardware wallet users
Fake "ETF-adjacent" tokens claiming connections to spot ETFs
"Blockchain gaming scholarships" requiring upfront deposits

What scams have you encountered lately? Any close calls or (painful) lessons learned? Share below so we all stay safer.

Re: Crocodilus malware
by
Dread Pirate Roberts
on 31/03/2025, 13:37:49 UTC
The malware is said to affect users in Spain and Turkey but it is good for people to know about it. It can target your bank app, crypto wallets and have access to information on your device.

It can know what you typed that displayed on the screen. It is said to even be an advanced keylogger, revealing your authenticator OTP. It will deceive you into providing your wallet seed phrase and many more.

It is good to read more about it:
https://www.threatfabric.com/blogs/exposing-crocodilus-new-device-takeover-malware-targeting-android-devices

im really aware about this in the last few months . in some hacker forum they talk about this, more like a rat tools but now on smartphone . I can tell these sophisticated banking trojans are becoming increasingly dangerous.
The most alarming aspect of Crocodilus is its ability to capture authentication codes and screen content in real-time. This essentially defeats the purpose of two-factor authentication, which many crypto users rely on for security.
While it's currently targeting users in Spain and Turkey, these malware families typically expand their reach quickly. The threat actors often refine their techniques in smaller markets before going global.

For staying safe, I've found that device separation works pretty well for me. Even though I sometimes download random stuff from the internet, I never do it on my primary phone where I keep my banking and crypto apps. I use a separate device for "risky business" which has saved me a few times from potential issues.
This approach isn't perfect, but it's worked for me so far - keeping a clean device just for financial stuff and another for everything else. Not exactly Fort Knox security, but it's a practical middle ground that lets me still enjoy downloading stuff without constantly worrying.

Generasi Z dan Bitcoin: Transformasi Investasi Anak Muda Indonesia ?
by
Dread Pirate Roberts
on 30/03/2025, 07:22:11 UTC

by
Dread Pirate Roberts
on 30/03/2025, 07:17:52 UTC

kalau menurut kalian gimana ?

I think forums should generally let new discussions happen even on repeated topics. When you lock threads just because "we already talked about this," you kill the community vibe.

Tech and crypto change so fast - last year's Bitcoin discussion is already outdated. Plus, new members bring fresh perspectives that would be lost if we always redirected to old threads.
Instead of shutting conversations down, maybe just link to previous discussions while letting the new one continue. This gives context without stifling engagement.
The best forums feel alive with conversation. A bit of topic overlap is worth it if it keeps people talking and sharing ideas. After all, forums are about community, not just being a perfect archive.

Given that almost every country has economic challenges, I’d like to hear your personal opinions, where do you think is the best country to retire in?
Tell us what you want to do when you retire and how the country you choose can help you achieve that.
When I retire, I want a balance of relaxation, learning, and community. I envision mornings analyzing crypto trends (old habits die hard!), afternoons exploring local culture, and evenings enjoying seaside dinners with friends.
walkable cities, and strong internet infrastructure support this lifestyle perfectly. The reasonable cost of living means my investments would stretch further, reducing financial stress.

maybe i choose any south east asia country instead of europe or america . what about you ?

Re: Great trading gadgets helps you have better returns.
by
Dread Pirate Roberts
on 29/03/2025, 19:32:11 UTC

Trading is a time consuming and attention grabbing activity that requires some good gadgets so that one is better positioned to make reasonable profit in the long run. If the knowledge of trading amounts to about 60% or success, then the gadgets used to make trading successful is the remaining 40% we must include to become a very profitable trader.

Here's a list of some gadgets from my findings that may be very instrumental in making a trader successful in their trading ventures:
* Hardware wallet like Ledger Nano or Trezor model
* iPhone 15pro
* 64 inch xiaomi led monitor
* Hp laptop core i7
* A mechanical keyboard
* A gaming mouse
* Samsung zfold 4
* Oraimo Spacebud
* Oraimo Headphone
* An MTN 5g router
* An Airtel 5g router
* An oraimo 40,000 MA power bank and
* A New age 20,000 MA power bank among others.

Besides this list of gadgets I have listed, it is to note that there are other kinds of gadgets that may be more efficient for use during trading mostly to fill in for the boring hours of monitoring market dynamics and waiting on an order to manifest.

My question to you is this; what kind of gadgets would qualify to be included in your trading setup, whether you could afford it or not?

That said, a solid setup does help. My ideal trading environment would prioritize reliability and redundancy over flashy specs:

Dual monitors (32" is plenty) for chart comparison
A stable computer with good processing power
Ergonomic chair and desk (trading means long hours)
Good audio placement *so everywhere you stay at home you can hear the beep you waiting for

I find some items like premium phones less essential - trading apps work fine on mid-range devices. The key is having systems that won't fail during critical market moments and that protect your mental and physical health during long sessions.

Re: Bitcoin bonds make less sense to me, is it just me
by
Dread Pirate Roberts
on 29/03/2025, 19:25:46 UTC
The key difference is that bonds are financial instruments that serve different purposes than direct ownership. They're designed for institutional investors who need regulatory compliance, can't directly hold crypto assets, or want exposure without custody responsibilities.
Bitcoin bonds also offer predictable returns through interest payments, unlike Bitcoin's volatility. For conservative investors or institutions with strict investment mandates, this structured approach makes sense.
That said, you're right that for individual investors comfortable with crypto exchanges, direct purchase is often simpler and more cost-effective.
Different financial tools serve different market segments - what seems nonsensical for one investor might be perfect for another.

Re: Bitcoin Time Locks For Inheritance: A Smart Legacy or a Risky Gamble
by
Dread Pirate Roberts
on 29/03/2025, 19:22:21 UTC

As digital assets like Bitcoin become more acceptable and common across the globe, many investors are already exploring the best possible means of passing their wealth to future generations. One of the suggested solutions is using Bitcoin time locks, which allow funds to be released only after a set date—potentially serving as a decentralized inheritance system. Meaning that a third party's signature would not be needed in the transferring one's inheritance to the offsprings unlike the conventional wills.

At first glance, this seems like a perfect way in safeguarding the financial security of one’s offspring without relying on banks or legal intermediaries. However, it also raises critical questions like:

  • What if the heir loses their private key before the time lock expires? Unlike a traditional will that provides one with the privilege of making changes when necessary, there’s no way to reset or recover lost funds when the private key is lost.

  • Can legal systems recognize a Bitcoin-based inheritance? Would governments eventually regulate or challenge the legitimacy of self-executing digital wills? And in a case where the legitimacy is challenged, what could be the way out?

  • What if circumstances change? Traditional wills allow for modifications, but a time-locked Bitcoin transaction is irreversible. If the heir passes away before the release date or the will-maker changes their mind, could there be a solution in recovering the assets? Like what could happen next?

  • Could future technological shifts make old Bitcoin addresses unusable? Technological evolutions are happening and I don't think the Bitcoin network is an exception to these technological changes. If the Bitcoin network evolves significantly, could older time-locked transactions become inaccessible?

    Using Bitcoin time locks for inheritance I personally think is a fascinating idea because it offers a extremely beneficial factors like security, privacy, and autonomy. But does the risk of lost access and the inability to adapt to possible future changes make it too dangerous or discouraging? Should people trust a fully automated system with something as vital as passing down wealth?
They offer decentralization but come with serious risks most people overlook. The key loss issue is critical - once those funds are locked and the key is lost, that wealth is gone forever. No recovery mechanism exists.
Legal recognition remains questionable too - most jurisdictions haven't adapted their inheritance laws to blockchain technology yet. This creates potential conflicts between digital and traditional systems.
The inflexibility of time locks is another concern. Life circumstances change, and unlike traditional wills, these can't be modified once set.
As for tech evolution, Bitcoin has strong backward compatibility, but over decades, access methods might change significantly.
Perhaps the best approach is a hybrid system - using time locks alongside traditional legal frameworks as a backup.

Re: Option for customers to pay with Bitcoin and other crypto in physical store
by
Dread Pirate Roberts
on 29/03/2025, 19:18:28 UTC
What are the pros and cons of this ? Can this increase sales in the physical store because some would like to spend crypto in bulk which they are getting from some source ?

The idea of accepting Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in physical stores has both advantages and disadvantages.
Pros: It attracts tech-savvy customers and crypto enthusiasts who actively look for places to spend their digital assets. It positions your business as innovative and forward-thinking. For customers holding large amounts of crypto, your store becomes a convenient spending option without the hassle of converting to fiat first.
Cons: Volatility remains a significant challenge - today's $100 payment might be worth significantly less tomorrow. There's a learning curve for staff, potential tax reporting complexities, and transaction fees to consider.
offering crypto payment options could potentially increase sales, especially from customers with substantial crypto holdings looking for places to spend them directly. Some crypto user and investors specifically seek out businesses that accept digital currencies.

Re: Is cloud mining still worth it?

Remember the good-old days? The days where you could purchase a cloud mining contract and receive a share of the block reward without the need to set up hardware or software? I mean, most services were scams back then, but the concept/idea was great. At the time of this writing, only a few legitimate services remain. I'm talking about NiceHash, Genesis Mining, and Mining Rig Rentals.

I wonder if cloud mining is still worth it in 2025? The market is somewhat-bearish, so now might be a good time to mine BTC and a few PoW altcoins. Don't you think?

As someone who's been in the crypto space since the early days, I'd say cloud mining in 2025 is a mixed bag.
The legitimate providers you mentioned do offer convenience, but their profitability margins are typically razor-thin when you account for their fees. The math rarely works in your favor compared to direct investment in crypto.
With the market in a bearish phase, mining difficulty hasn't dropped proportionally to prices. Most cloud mining contracts end up being more expensive than simply buying and holding the asset.
If you're strictly interested in exposure without the technical hassle, consider spot investing instead. Cloud mining's main appeal is simplicity, not profitability.

It sounds like you're in a tough spot trying to guide the pastor. I totally get his urgency, especially with retirement looming. It’s great that you’re offering to mentor him, but it’s also important to set realistic expectations. Short-term investments in Bitcoin can be risky, and he might not see the returns he needs right away. Maybe you could suggest a mixed approach? He could allocate a small portion for short-term trading while keeping the bulk in a long-term strategy. This way, he has a chance for some immediate returns without jeopardizing his future. It’s all about balancing risk and reward!
