I guess Blacklist & the "Good wife" are the only series that mentioned Bitcoin .

nope

That's weird this list doesn't include The Blacklist. Maybe because it was talking about a BTC IOU on the ripple distributed ledger 😉

https://m.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1v6bu7/the_blacklist_nbc_mentions_bitcoin_and_ripple/

There was another Blacklist episode where an assassin was paid using Bitcoin. Can't quite remember which season it was.
Yes it was Season 3 episode 5.
You can see it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arioch_Cain

Yes, that's the one!
The bounty for the assassin was over 2,000BTC if I remember correctly.

This looks really cool. But with so may interactive features on the dashboard, how is it performance wise?

You mean GUI responsiveness?  Most of the content will be on staggered timers and doesn't need to be updated in real time.  Graphs and things for example can be updated every 10 seconds or so.

The actual update of the graphs, tables, fetching data etc will happen in separate threads from the painters and use double buffer caching, so fluidity of the user inputs should be pretty good and the display components can still be navigated while new data is being prepared, then flipped.  If its not, well, I'm pretty good at optimizing things and finding novel ways to get them fast Smiley

BTW:  Best graphic designer in the universe? Nice Smiley  Take a look at this little competition we are having https://forum.emunie.com/threads/competition-debit-card-designs.4439/
That makes a lot of sense.
I'll see you at emunie tomorrow/later. Cheesy

This just got dropped today from our GUI designer and will be implemented in the next couple of weeks.

Of course I'm biased but I think it looks great and is as good as anything out there right now.

Re: Bitcoin Constitution - Looking for feedback
by

The start using the word correctly.
I am.

Follow up question. Do you understand what constitution means?
I do. Tell me what does Consensus mean?

The conventional definition of a constitution is as a regulating mechanism of an entity through the use of violence or exclusionary methods (judicial system, LEA, exclusion.of membership, depriving access, etc), regardless of whether it is in a decentralized or centralized society. You talk about voluntary, shared success, etc like this is a 'constitution' for a My Little Pony clubhouse.
You failed to understand bitcoin. Not unusual for people brought up and brainwashed in a centralized hierarchical society.
Oh, I see. Since you can no longer articulate an argument, you immediately hide behind "you are brainwashed so you don't understand", hoping desperately that no one will see that you actually have no clue to what is being discussed here. But it's not unusual to see people to talk about things they don't even understand, arrogantly at that. And then hiding behind words like shared success, voluntary and now, consensus. Oh, the irony.

The fact, is, if you understood the concept of constitution, then we wouldn't be having this discussion. Period.

Yeah, this is very suspect...declaring insolvency and preferring some customers (those with alts) over other customers (those with BTC). This is also quite illegal. Does he need a powershovel to dig himself a bigger hole with the authorities?

How is this illegal?

It is illegal for bankrupt/insolvent companies to prefer creditors of the same rank (ie in this case unsecured creditors) over other creditors of the same rank. Otherwise they could pay out friends, close business partners first and leave people who should have the same rights to reimbursement with nothing.

dude, we are not creditors as we just deposit our altcoins and not selling them to Cryptsy LTD, so we are sharesholders on each type of cryptocurrency, claiming that my shares need to be sold(on which price, probaly on 1 satoshi each first million and rest for free?) in order to cover your stolen type of shares is mass theft, and that is illegal! Cryptsy LTD was a private vault with just one lock box on same type of "shares"
I know this sounds harsh, but Cryptsy isn't a bank.

You asswipe.  Tongue
So was he right?

EDIT

FUCK YOUR BOUNTY. Tongue
Is that evidence that BitJohn has access to Cryptsy wallets? I don't really get it.

Do you understand what arbitrary means?
I do.

If nothing can be enforced, in what universe is a "proposed constitution" practical?
In bitcoin universe. The conventional definition of enforcement as seen by centralized society does not apply here. People do not run nodes, because they are enforced. They run it, because they want to voluntarily support the bitcoin network and enjoys a 'shared success'.

One of the best proposal I have seen in recent times to end the consensus controversy. Have you tried to post it in the bitcoin-dev mailing list?
bitcoin-dev mailing list owner asked me to post it in bitcoin-discuss mailing list first. So, it is there - http://lists.linuxfoundation.org/pipermail/bitcoin-discuss/2016-February/000080.html.

So how exactly is this constitution suppose to be enforced?
Why would anyone obey it?
Neither it needs to be enforced, nor anyone needs to obey it. It'll do good as an unofficially defined process for consensus resolution. And once, a hard fork proposal passes through the process stated in this constitution, it'll have the majority of hash power with majority of coins backing it. The majority of hash power with the backing of the majority coins is what makes the longest chain ticking in bitcoin ecosystem. Everyone else 'obeys' it.
So what is the incentive for anyone to even follow or obey a constitution that, in your words, no one needs to obey and is unenforceable?
Do u understand that u just read the first sentence of a 3 line statement and made an arbitrary comment? He has already explained why the consensus does not require to be enforced. In fact, in bitcoin network, nothing can be enforced. People are part of it because it benefits them and this proposed constitution fits very well to this ideology.

Re: One user 2-3 accounts in a discussion
by

on 23/02/2016, 09:06:18 UTC
Without giving to much details I came across a member that uses his alt accounts all with signature campaigns to talk to himself in threads or grind a edge in the rounds gambling subforum. Since it looks like quite the rabbit hole I will not give out the names of the accounts but wanted to know if this is allowed in the forum?
3 accounts found but I think it goes deeper because another account kept quoting them as well when I looked through history and I do recognize the name.

I could see someone randomly logs into another account and goes back into the discussion but this is him just agreeing with himself and it made me wonder how many more accounts are doing this.
That's serious accusation that you've made here, are you sure about it? As it may lead to few bans..
Out of curiosity, why?
If a poster switches between three accounts in a single thread, aside from being a narcissist (and maybe a schizophrenic), he/she/it is not breaking any rules, right?

Re: I found a bitcoin bank but want to check its validity.

I found a site bitbank.com while fiddling with domain names through boardom. It offers 12% interest on annual fixed amounts or 0.02% daily. Is this site a scam or leitimate.

I want to know of only people who have used it or can offer advice on its validity.
The website is registered by a Chinese company based in Guang Dong, China.
Bank of China prohibits any banking or financial institutions from providing any Bitcoin related services. So to answer your question, this appears illegitimate.

Re: How to convert BTC in real cash
by
DropsOfJupiter
on 23/02/2016, 08:50:09 UTC
i am learning here more and more about BTC.
i want to know how to convert btc in real cash..
Thanks.

Step 1: Save your Bitcoin wallet in a thumb drive.
Step 2: Place your thumb drive inside a bowl filled with rose water.
Step 3: Cover with a blanket.
Step 4: At midnight, yell "Satoshi Nakamoto" three times.
Step 5: Come back in three days and you will find the equivalent amount of your local currency inside the bowl.

If three days is too long for you, follow the recommendations of the other posters in the thread.
Personally, I have always liked LocalBitcoins.com.

You have been given a lot of incorrect advice here, OP.
PayPal does not allow cryptocurrency trading. The moment you admit to it, you will either face a chargeback, or worse, account limitation/closure.
I know this is not helpful to your current situation, but take it as a learning experience.

Re: make money by the price difference between exchange center

Hi, All,  Cheesy

I am very interested at the btc trading. I recently noticed that there is some price difference between different exchange center. Have anyone tried to buy the cheaper one and sell it at a separate place?

Does anyone interested in it? Let me know and we can talk about it more.
This is called arbitraging. Because of BTC's confirmation time (unlike forex and other forms of commodities), the only way to successfully make a profit from arbitraging is by holding BTCs at both destinations. However, daily price fluctuations then come into play. So, don't arbitrage unless if you can afford to lose your BTC.

How did you aquire a that big mass of accounts?

It all started as a 'can I use some machine learning to beat a captcha' challenge for myself. Then I just kind of took off from there when I added an infrastructure to automate anonymous browser sessions and added some ML generated commenting.

To date, well less than one percent have been called out as being automated (and I've excluded those from the set that I willing to sell)
Impressive. Most Reddit account farmers get shadowbanned before they reached double digits, so I guess you must be switching IPs, right?
