Is there a single place where people can write down their client wishlist?

I've one.  Help write these features.  Put them into a forked client.  Name it something else.  Does anyone here still use the original bittorrentd to download torrent files?  I have in the past, but not in years.  The programmers working on the guts of bitcoin are probably not particularly good at implimenting popular features or even user interface designs.  This would be a misuse of their time, anyway.

Hi MoonShadow,

Thanks for replying. I am contributing in the one way I can (at least for now) -- coming up with ideas. Smiley

What I want in a client

Is there a wishlist for what people want in a client? If not, let's start one. Here are some of my ideas. Feel free to add:

* Encryption automatically built in. I mean, really...

* Multiple wallets. You can save wallets to locations of your choice. Open multiple wallets at once (for example, in tabs).

* Save / load layout of tabs. Automatically load the last tabs layout.

* Big red panic button. What this does is:
1- Creates a brand new wallet
2- Opens all the other wallets that the client remembers ever opening
3- Sends all the money from all these wallets to the newly created wallet.

* Instead of showing the number of confirmations for each transaction, make it easier / more graphical. Maybe "unconfirmed", "receiving confirmation", and "confirmed", or something similar. Advanced users will be able to change the view to see the number of confirmations.

* A plugin for buying / selling / trading bitcoins on popular exchanges.
1- Send money to the exchange and request it from the exchange with a click of a button.
2- Look at latest quotes.
3- Trade

* A plugin for mining bitcoins. GUIMiner built into the client.

... Other ideas?

Please whitelist me. I've been lurking for a long time, understand bitcoins, etc. I have some questions / proposals about bitcoins that I posted in the newbies forum, but I'd like to repost them in the main forums, for the more experienced people to see.

Thanks!

Exactly. That's the hope. What I am saying is that, if the timing doesn't work out right, it could be very bad..

Right. But a large corporation coming in with hundreds of thousands of dollars can have a better infrastructure instantly. I bet Amazon / Google / others are watching bitcoin very closely. If it starts taking off, they can roll out their version of it.

Re: How much is a mining rig worth?

My question was: if you only use a computer for mining, and the profits from mining are decreasing all the time, how do you even know that you will be able to recover what you paid for it. It's a risky proposition. Which makes all the rig buying seem a little reckless, no?

Someone with a rig, tell me what the numbers are.

Other p2p currency players

So, it's a year from now, and bitcoins are becoming more popular, though still not completely mainstream.

Hello, my name is Amazingon, a hugely popular and successful online retailer. I will start a new p2p currency, called ACoin. ACoin is really just bitcoin, but with a different chain, much better client, encryption, etc. Plus, I will give discounts to my customers who pay in ACoin.

All of a sudden, everyone starts using ACoin. What happens to the bitcoin network then? People would leave it, you would not be able to buy things for bitcoins, and bitcoin value would go down..

If and when bitcoins start becoming more popular, which is what we all want, there is nothing stopping Amazingon from crushing it with their own brand of p2p currency. Thoughts?

Network stability

Rewarding people for being on the network (mining) was a brilliant idea. The hope is that this creates a network stable enough that people begin trading in bitcoin. Then, once the reward for mining diminishes, people still want to be on the network because it is valuable for trading.

BUT, this means that mining profitability should not decrease before bitcoins become popular with lots of people for non-mining activities. It's possible that mining profitability will go down (lots of new rigs, reward eventually dropping to 25btc) before bitcoins are popular enough. What happens then? Lots of miners leave the network... What then?

How much is a mining rig worth?
by
EmilyClark
on 21/06/2011, 21:21:17 UTC
A mining rig is worth the amount it can mine in whatever amount of time. The problem is that the more rigs there are on the network, the less any individual rig can mine, and the less it is worth.

Question: Is it really worth it buying all these rigs? Will they make what you spent on them?
