Re: Will crypto solve socioeconomic problems?
by
Emily_Davis
on 30/11/2018, 15:41:00 UTC
no because nothing about "people" would ever change. they would only use a different tool (bitcoin in this case) and continue doing the same thing that they have been doing before and nothing will ever be solved. not to mention that bitcoin is too small and not even adopted yet by more than 0.5% of the world to want to change economy of country!

If this is the case, then what's the point of wanting cryptocurrency to be a global virtual currency if it wouldn't help improve a country's economy anyway? Do you suppose using cryptocurrency will help only those who use them, and not really that same person's country? Do you think that maybe it was because the government doesn't acknowledge and accept the presence of cryptocurrency?

Re: Who would actually believe celebs promoting crypto?

You'd be surprised how many innocent people who worship their idols like a God will believe and hang on to their every word. Even though they are basically lying to their faces, like DJ Khalid and Mayweather, fans will/might still believe them because "they said it". Especially if you are unaware of cryptocurrency and how it really works, if you see your idol "endorse" it, chances are you will believe them.

Re: Addiction to tech treatment

Plugged in forever, how? Anyway, even if being "plugged into technology" is possible, it will still have a bad effect on the person's health. Have you heard of the countless teens who died after being in front of the computer for a long period of time because they didn't even take a break (except for bathroom breaks, I think)?  So yes, it is possible that someone who's addicted to technology may want to stay online forever, but it may not be good for his health.

Re: Gene editing is a god-making plan or a challenge to morality?
by

My question is why do they think they need to create a genetically edited baby from scratch? Nothing wrong with gene editing (existing) humans, but I just want to know make babies from the scratch? To be fair, I don't think the scientists are trying to create God, but more like acting like a God in the sense that they can manipulate life. That said, does this mean the baby is an orphan or what?

Re: Could Elon Musk have been wrong about AI?
by

So you think that the guy who is working in this sphere is being wrong about its problems? I don`t.

Not wrong but hypocritical to say the least.
Furthermore tech companies are the least transparent firms. If it was bad, they would have not invested in digitizing everything including intelligence that could potentially destroy us, so they say.

What's wrong with digitizing things, including intelligence? Human intelligence, to be exact? If it can be possible in the future and it can extend the lives of the people then what's the harm? Besides, it's not like the man is using your money to maked these technology but his own, right? It might be too SciFi for a lot of people, but what if it really can be achieved? Think about it.

Re: Will the quest for a Virtual world help us improve the real world?
by
Emily_Davis
on 21/11/2018, 17:08:40 UTC
Do you think (even if hypothetically), a virtual world will give us a chance to introspect and find the missing links of the real world? By setting up the rules for the new world, will we realize what we did wrong with the real world?

Well, the difference between the real world and the virtual world is that in the virtual world, we can control our surroundings. Here in our world, we have no control over what happens in our environment. Yes, we contribute to all the shittiness that happens in our environment, but unlike here, in the virtual world we can simply reset something just like that because everything there will be digital. That, alone, will make everything better there compared to here, right?

Re: If you want to live longer
by
Emily_Davis
on 21/11/2018, 16:53:43 UTC
If you really want to live a longer life eat every other day.  There is no reason to eat food everyday.  Our bodies are not designed to eat massive amounts everyday, thats why we have a huge problem with diabetes.  We store fat for a reason.  We are meant to go long periods of time without food.

Every animal on earth will have their lifespan increased significantly by calorie restriction.

To put it simply eating = aging.

Nah. I think what we need is to live a healthy lifestyle. Yes, intermittent fasting helps a lot, but it won't really do much if you don't eat healthy foods. That, and proper exercise plus positive attitude is what we need to live a long, healthy and happy life. At least until a technology is invented that will allow us to live longer than most... which is probably never. Sad

Absolutely! I'm still quite young, and there's so much more that I want to do in my life. If only there's a way to live forever I'd probably take it, but sadly there isn't a technology or a pill that can make this happen. Sad Is there?

Re: China as the next global AI superpower?
by
Emily_Davis
on 21/11/2018, 16:27:25 UTC
Aren't they already the superpower when it comes to AI?

I agree! Have you seen all the technology they have in there? They've got humanoid robots and HoloLens and there's even a driverless car in one of those Chinese exhibits! Not to mention their social credit rating system, which they are about to implement nationwide soon! PLUS, all those kids they hired to make AI killer weapons? That's crazy, but if that's not an indication of showing global AI superpower, then idk what is.

This is pretty much the Black Friday that people want. The price is kind of low probably because the stock in some market is going down too and making cryptocurrency's market dip too. This is going to be interesting after the end of this year.

Bitcoin's price already dropped again, do you think that it will drop again come Black Friday Sale? Because that could be bad. I mean, not for those who wants to buy bitcoin, but is it good for the market if it drops again?

Re: The concept of marriage is morally obsolete?
by
Emily_Davis
on 13/11/2018, 13:58:20 UTC
In my opinion, at present, marriage has no practical need.
Sorry, but I beg to disagree. Marriage still has a practical need... for those who believe in it, at least. Like myself. I would love to settle down one day and start a family with the person I will eventually marry.

So why do we need this lack of freedom? for love? But love does not live long, then everything turns into a habit.
Who says that marriage equals lack of freedom? It's true you sacrifice a few things once you're married, but if you think that it's a burden then yeah, you probably shouldn't marry. Also, love does live long. You probably haven't met someone you'd want to spend the rest of your life with.

Maybe it's time for modern society to abandon marriage?
Abandon marriage? No way Jose! Marriage is a choice. If a couple wants to get married, let them. If they don't, then fine. But it will never be obsolete.

Re: What is death really?
by
Emily_Davis
on 13/11/2018, 13:38:56 UTC
First of all, what is death? Death happens when your entire body just stops functioning. That's it. No resurrection. No more waking up. Do I fear death? Hell yes! I'm young, and I want to live long. Like, if there's a way for me to live forever I would, even though I know that's not possible right now. But it will come for us one day. We just don't know when.

Re: What technology do you think we would need in the future?
by

What technology do we need in the future? A technology that can recycle non-recyclable items such as plastics, ceramics and kitchenwares, used paper towels, napkins, plates or boxes, food waste and garbage. Why? Because finding a death cure is useless if we're going to live in a planet that's in the brink of destruction anyway.

Short answer: no one knows.
Unless someone brings you back from the dead or you're an immortal, there's no way to know for sure what comes after a person dies. But if you really want to know, you can always take you ouija board out and ask a wandering ghost.

Re: Is VR a good place for people with dark thoughts?
by
Emily_Davis
on 09/11/2018, 17:18:00 UTC
VR is a great tool that has a lot of potential to be very useful for all of us. I can totally see it being used as a way to release anger and hidden emotions, but I don't know if it's enough to make someone forget about it afterwards. I do believe though that aside from entertainment purposes, virtual reality can also be used in other things, like education and training, as well as surgery.

Re: What would education be like in a society where work was optional?
by
Emily_Davis
on 07/11/2018, 18:14:53 UTC
Advancements in AI and the gradual digitization of society could one day lead to a world where earning a living is inessential to living a decent life.

Why would the existence of AI make working for a living inessential? It's not like the AIs will suddenly be feeding us while we sit on our asses all day. On the contrary, the existence of AI will make people want to work even more because people will be threatened AIs will take their jobs away from them. Same with education. Many students might be encouraged to study about artificial intelligence more if self-aware AI started existing.

Re: Poll: Is the creation of artificial superinteligence dangerous?
by
Emily_Davis
on 07/11/2018, 18:09:27 UTC
I think it all depends on the intent of creating it and the type of AI that will be created. For example, China's social credit system is gaining a lot of criticisms from several people because of its effects on its residents, and it's not even AI yet. It's more like machine learning. If this continues, they may be the first country to ever produce ASI. Whether or not it will be a threat to us in the future? We never know.

Re: Do you like Virtual reality?
by
Emily_Davis
on 07/11/2018, 17:54:47 UTC
Virtual reality is something everyone wants but they dont want it in its current state and for it to grow it needs a lot of money and they cant get the money unless people buy it.
I dont see it taking off for a very very long time maybe when tech is just a lot better

This kinda reminds me of bitcoin. People hear about it and gets interested, but eventually decides not to buy bitcoin because it's too expensive for them. It's a revolutionary virtual currency, but people stay away from it because they can't afford it. So they stick to what's available today: fiat.

Virtual reality is like that. It's immersive and a good way to escape reality, but not everyone is willing to shell out hundreds and thousand of dollars just for this technology.

Re: Would YOU choose to live forever?
by

on 05/11/2018, 18:39:43 UTC
Live forever as in not aging and free of diseases, or growing old but just not dying? If it's the former, then hell yes! Where do I sign up? If it's the latter, well, now why would I torture myself with living forever as an old, wrinkly woman? I'd rather stay in this world and die eventually. Being an immortal and old and wrinkly isn't ideal imo.
