Windows User, Vista and above only:

This build attempts to fix start up issues in Win Vista+. It implements some rather big changes in how the exe is produced, so please, Win7 and 8 users, try it as well.

Note: as usual, this my build (goatpig's), not etotheipi's. This is ran at your own risk. You only need to run Armory in offline mode to confirm the compatibility of the exe.

WinXP Users:

This works on Win Vista 32-bit.

Here's a new tentative build to try and get Armory running on Vista and XP.

Disclaimer: This my build (goatpig), not etotheipi's. This is only for testing purpose on older Windows platforms. A lot of optimizations have been taken out in an attempt to achieve a failsafe build, so this will be slow. Starting Armory in offline mode is enough to prove compatibility. Adventurous ones, you may wanna try and build the DB (at your own risk)

That worked.

There was explicit notes on the lack of WinXP compatibility with the code I used, but nothing about Windows Vista. Please install .NET framework 4.5 and tell me if it works. I'll investigate that matter.

I tried that. It didn't work.

Windows users!

Thanks again to goatpig.  He made us a custom port of one of the leveldb DB dependencies and it appears it may have fixed the loading issues.

els & Rogue Star:  please try again!

P.S. - This version also includes the fragmented backup tester.  Try it out!

I'm on Windows Vista 32-bit. I'm still getting this error:

Code:

Good luck on your biz. Just please don't scam unless you want to end up with a scammer tag.

Bit2gift has become a scammer. I tried to buy 3 months of Netfllix on June 8th. I paid 0.2275 BTC. Here is the transaction: http://blockexplorer.com/tx/ca61049eb30f6e3127e3bc094a2d04eb6c185972c419110231c36cc412c951f1. I never received my code. I have tried to contact them several times through several different channels. Do not buy from Bit2gift.

Are they expensive? Where can I buy one?

Thanks K and Rayen. You guys both helped a lot.

They are expensive and there is a long waiting list. The two manufacturers are Avalon (http://launch.avalon-asics.com/) and Butterfly Labs (http://www.butterflylabs.com/).

How about this tutorial? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=17240.0

Also, what are ASICS?

Application Specific Integrated Circuits. They are chips that are designed specifically for a given purpose, in this case Bitcoin mining. Because they are specially designed they are far more efficient than CPUs and GPUs.

BTW, did anyone notice that the Zercoin anonymity extension was sponsored by the Office of Naval Research, DARPA, and the Air Force Research Laboratory  ?

On a related matter I would like to know how long it takes to get questions answered here and how the backlog issue is evolving in general.

On an unrelated matter I like your signature.

You can still get in and out of bitcoin without exchanges. Want bitcoin? Sell something. Have bitcoin you want to get rid of? Buy something.

The restrictions are quite irritating when I'm an experienced bitcoiner, have a cool story to tell, and cannot because I didn't make the 5 posts to this forum Sad

It's not very hard to make five posts.

Re: Internet connection stability vs mining
by
Eylrid
on 31/03/2013, 15:37:56 UTC
Hi Bitcoin gurus,

This question is more out of curiosity than anything else, how important is a stable "always on" Internet connection when mining for Bitcoins? I'm assuming once synced with the network the hashing occurs on the local data files?

If this is not the case and a constant net connection is required, are your efforts reset if the Internet connection does drop from the network?

Thanks and sorry if these seems stupid questions, I couldn't find my answer through searching.

I don't know the specifics of how any given mining software handles that, but I see three critical things for which a connection is needed:
  • Catching up to the latest blockchain state
  • Collecting transactions
  • Transmitting a block you found

Theoretically, if you got the latest block and a handful of transactions, disconnected, solved a block and reconnected to submit it before someone else solved another block you would be ok. If someone else solves a block first, though, and you don't know about it, you could be wasting work on an old block.

Disclaimer: I am not a miner, so this is just my supposition.
