FLO Foundation: Preventing Funds From Getting Stuck In Under-funded Initiatives

We are considering how to prevent funds getting stuck in an initiative for so long that they become obsolete. For that reason we will keep an initiative open for 3 months. After that, we thought about moving the funds to the most well funded initiative, but the community raised the concern that this might not be fair.

Thus, we thought long and hard and decided that we will keep a permanent fund to update the core code of FLO. The funds from expired initiatives will be moved to fund updates to FLO core.

We think this is the most logical solution and it is in line with the FLO foundation’s mission of keeping the FLO blockchain secure.

FLO is open source software. Anyone can implement it, including crummy pools; the FLO team has no control over that because of the MIT license.

The same goes for Bitcoin, Litecoin, and any other open source crypto under similar free software licenses.

Nothing was ever let to lie. The 0.15.1.1 update was released a month after the 51% attack.

There are more than 15 pools mining FLO. There are no FLO developers involved in the operation of any of those pools. Assistance from any developer who contributes to FLO is not likely to help recoup your coins. Your best bet is to contact the pool operators directly and explore the issue with them. If you need technical assistance understanding a pool issue you can always reach out to some of the community members on Telegram and Discord. There is a #mining channel on Discord and the Telegram is very active as well.

Pull requests are requests to add code to the project. Submitting code to the FLO repo or donating FLO to developers is the only way to speed up the solution to the current problem. If you can't or won't contribute in either of those ways then please make a constructive suggestion.

Right now, we've released the first of many updates that will fix the issue for exchanges experiencing double spend attacks. We expect pools and exchanges to re-open FLO operations again soon.

The problem has been addressed in the latest FLO community blog post and the contributors who develop code for FLO are working as fast as possible on a solution. If you'd like to help, please send a pull request to our github repo at https://github.com/floblockchain/flo - or share any constructive solutions here.

There is no "FLO organization", just like there is no "Bitcoin organization". If you have faith in anything, you have faith in the FLO community as a whole, which is a decentralized group. The FLO open source project has attracted developers, community members, and contributors for the last 5.5 years and will continue to grow and operate in this way without a centralized entity.

There were 15 active FLO mining pools, some have disabled FLO temporarily due to the disabled Bittrex wallet. You can find an exhaustive list here:

Funds sent to Bittrex during the attack should be available when Bittrex re-enables FLO. If they aren't, contacting Bittrex customer support with the relevant transaction ID would be the best option.

The FLO wallet will be usable again when the FLO team has completed development of the upgrade required to secure our proof of work chain. Development updates will be posted here as usual.
