I run a usb3-hub on the rpi. Strange that it shouldnt work. Maye your cant speak usb2 and mine can?

I think all 3.0 hubs Support 2.0 ... but most devices like Keyboards, mice and the Erupters are 1.1, which isn't supported by most hubs anymore

Re: is it possible to use an ASIC to mine an Alt Coin?

Probably there will never be an ASIC being able to do both ... because then, it would not really be Application Specific (that is what the A and S are standing for), it would more be like an FPGA.

Bitcoinminers are mostly already unprofitable if you don't have them yet ... Any device you buy will most likely not make any ROI.

Scrypt is still doable by GPUs, no FPGAs or ASICs which are soon to be released.

Re: Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon
by
Fallout
on 09/08/2013, 13:54:28 UTC
So I got everything working at the moment ... WiFi on the Pi, 10 Erupter USBs on 3 DLink Hubs ... everything works fine for some hours after which the LEDs on all Sticks are going into a constant green light, and I cannot ping or access the raspberry any more ... so kind of a freeze ...

Anyone has an idea what may be causing this? And how to prevent it?

As a workaround, I was thinking to have a script running, which is rebooting the pi every hour or two, but have to clue how to setup this in linux ... my last use of linux is like ten or more years ago

Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone got an idea what the problem is? Using a 5V/2A 4 port noname hub. The same problem exists for 2-4 USB Sticks ... Only one will hash in a good way ... Is it the power supply or could it be any other issue? (Getting some Dlink Hubs in the near future Wink )

Re: 10er USB Hub, zu wenig Strom für 9-10xBlock Erupter?

Theoretisch kein Problem ...

They are ASICs (Application specific integrated circuit), which can be used to mine all SHA256 coins (Bitcoin, PPCoin, TerraCoin etc.) ... The will yield about 330-335MH/s like a middle class GPU

For current BTC/USD exchange rate- no, but if we can assume that BTC will rise in the future and you will hold some of mined bitcoins as long time investment, then, I think, yes.

Best regards
Nerius

But then, it would still have been better to buy BTC with the money Wink

In Germany (where I live) you have to pay VAT (19%) + customs fee (0-5% depending on the type of items) ...

There probably is information available for the USA on some website of the gov I guess

You will probably have to pay taxes like VAT when importing goods from abroad. There is probably a treshold under which you don't have to pay, but this is usually ~500$ . You will have to declare it and go to the customs line (something to declare).

When you buy sth inside a land and are leaving that land, you usually can get back their VAT (using some forms at the airport or the shop or somewhere), so if the VAT in the USA is lower than in the original country, you more or less don't loose money.

I'll vouch for what jimmielin said. I also had to revert to 3.1.1 with Block Erupters. This worked for me.

Also reverted to 3.1.1. and works superb ... several days without restarting ... error rate <1%, everything fine

1) You use a router anyways.

Yeah but it is already provided by the ISP... isn't it in your case?

There is one provided, but it is sooo extremely bad ... And no one stops you from installing a better one (If you want GBit Ethernet and 300Mbit WiFi you have no choise for example)
