If running an adult site is against their terms or service then that's why. I doubt they stole coins off you. IF you have back ups of your wallets you should be able to get the coins without logging onto their site any way.

Re: Dead or alive? The story of the Taliban's missing leader Mohammed Omar

Isn't this the guy that only has one picture of him in circulation?

Taliban has been severely weakened over the years. Even if he is alive, don't really think it will make much difference to their operation.

ISIS is the new group everyone is focused on

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammed_Omar

There's two pictures of him and I'm not sure how they even know if those pics are legit. I'm surprised anyone even still cares about the Taliban any way. Seems ISIS have take their crown recently.

This is one of the dumbest things I have ever read.

Maybe you should put

5. Past habitual marijuana use makes you a moron, just look at the other 4 points.

Haha. It's a shame that these days weed smokers tend to be foolish idiots. I think it makes cannabis look bad and has no doubt actually held the legalization process back as people see cannabis smokers as the cliches that they're usually portrayed as.

I think it would lend much more legitimacy to Bitcoin.

Or it could have the opposite effect. What if satoshi was a 'criminal' in the eyes of the law, or they managed to tie something to him? I think its better than he remains anon. I like the mystique and enigma of him and what it adds to bitcoin.

Batman Begins came out in 2005. Do you mean The Dark Knight Rises? Inception would definitely be up there, though. I don't think there's been many great films come out this decade. I found a lot of ones that were highly rated over rated like Gravity and Intersteller. Silver Linings Playbook was solid but not a classic.

A miracle. At 500 billion I think the remittance market is all we need, though any and all online businesses accepting bitcoin would be mega for bitcoin. I can't see why online stores wouldn't accept bitcoin to be honest.

Re: Your opinions on Online Gambling and Bitcoin

Charity gambling site it's a very good idea ;-)
Charity gambling or not charity gambling. Currently both forms of gambling are illegal in some countries. Except for playing with bitcoin which can't be regulated.

Gambling is legal in more countries than it is not, but since bitcoin isn't legal tender or money in many places they might be able to get around restrictions using it.

Well, bitcoin has to be integrated into more mainstream uses first. Once it gets around to store retailers and online sales with more strength, then it will be time to look into more specific uses such as sports and competitions. Gambling really just took off that fast with bitcoin because it is a legal workaround to something that would be illegal with fiat, nothing else.
It is true, but now the laws in countries like US are getting strict which is causing these sites to shut down or the owner's facing legal charges like Micon @SWC . But yes there are still way around that. I feel slowly more and more sites will eventually have legal issues with running, but since its an unlicensed industry there is nothing that will stop new sites to come up.

If casino operators are careful with where they host their sites there's not much the authorities can do about them. You absolutly cannot operate them from the USA that's a given.

Re: Has the NSA already broken bitcoin?
by
Father Ted
on 27/04/2015, 16:57:53 UTC
SHA256 is not going to get broken anytime soon. If that happened, it would basically mean every other electronic transaction system would get cracked as well. Bitcoin would be the least of the worries. Practically every credit card encryption is rocking the SHA256.

I think the only people who think bitcoin is broken are the people who don't understand it and are conspiracytards who would rather invent or believe in the exciting myth and mystery of a conspiracy rather than the cold boring truth.

To be honest I think bitcoin is actually going to be a great investment in the long run despite the poor performance recently. I'm not saying it's safe or 100% guaranteed but I'm taking my chances. You're not really just investing in the currency but the whole technology, and what it can achieve all around the world in various markets gives it massive potential in my opinion.

Re: France plane crash: No survivors expected, French President says
by
Father Ted
on 25/03/2015, 07:12:18 UTC

Each plane crash is a tragedy, but speculation as to what happened in France are fruitless until the flight recorders are found and decoded.

Sincere condolences to the families...

They already found it, though not sure how long it takes to decode. Don't flight recorders only collect certain flight data? I guess if it was shot down or just blew up randomly the box wouldn't be able to help (not saying it was anything to do with those two but speaking in general about crashes).

Looks like it might have broken up mid air and scattered debris over a distance.

Re: Will capitalism last forever?

Capitalism can't last forever.Social systems are mortal.Like the human beings who compose them, they are born, mature, decline, and eventually die.The history of capitalist society shows it is no exception. It too has moved from birth through maturity to decline, and is now approaching death.

It might have it's ups and downs but I think it will always rebound eventually. What system could possibly replace capitalism if it did indeed die like you propose?

You would think a University would have better network security to not get effected by things like this. Sad to see it happen and especially when it drags bitcoin into the light negatively.

If the payment can be made with credit card, how hard is it to track down the operator any why not charge back that payment ?!

Anyway this is a good lesson to start making backups regularly.

I'm sure they have ways of moving the money safely before they're caught.

More nonsense from Bill. Gold fluctuates drastically especially recently. Does that mean all gold based monetary systems are crap? No it fucking does not.

The value of most things fluctuate but very rarely to the extreme that bitcoin does, but maybe this will change over time as bitcoin is still a new and experimental technology. I don't think we should be overly harsh on Gates though as he's been positive but cautious of bitcoin in the past and I'd rather have him talking about it than not or straight up verbally destroying it.

Government-controlled fiat is a bad idea, and shifting the centralization to private companies doesn't fix anything but merely compounds the problems. When will people learn?

Bitcoin isn't exactly immune from scammers either. Any new technology is going to be exploited or hacked by thieves looking for their paycheck. Both people, governments and corporations need to be one step ahead and keep themselves as secure as they can.

Re: Simple ways to earn Bitcoin?

I have a laptop, but I can't do mining with this. Is there simple ways to earn Bitcoin else mining?
Um, how about cloud mining? It is good?

Thanks Grin

You can join signature campaign, listed here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.0;topicseen

Also, sell your goods or service here
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=5.0

And earn interests with your coins, like in this thread
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=774359.0

I would recommend the first two but not the third. Signature campaigns seem to be an easy wat to get some btc but you need a higher account to get some decent money.

I would also recommend staying away from faucets, gambling and ponzis.

For the first one. Gotta agree, normal people (non-technology) wont be investing in Bitcoin. Most of them are afraid for the rapid changes in the exchange rate. And.. some of them can't understand how Bitcoin work. Unless Bitcoin is value stable, else, people wont be investing in it.

Volatility, a heaven for the majority of traders.

Exactly, it';s this volatility that makes it possible to profit, only people obviously don't like it when it doesnt go the way they want it to but that's part of the game that they need to understand. The hodlers and long term believers don't really care about minor fluctuations.
Yup but we eventually need the price to stabilize otherwise we can never use it on daily shopping.

Why not? It's not idea but people are still using the currency now even despite it's fluctuations. Merchants will be protected by using a payment processor so there's no excuses there.
