Re: The Fallacy Of The Maturity Of Chances
by
Felicity_Tide
on 28/06/2025, 19:39:02 UTC
I believe we still have so many people like this. Just because they've had consecutive losses, they then hope and eagerly wait for the day that nature(luck) would favour them while they are still gambling with the same amount none stop. People have to understand that in the world of gambling, everybody wants to be a winner, including those offering the gambling services. That little win that a gambler crave for, is also the same win that others including those offering the service also hope for.

The mindset that past results might make amendments to future results, will lead to too many disappointments, and if there is no emotional control, a gambler might start chasing after losses while still staking same amount, or even bigger amount.

To OP, i don't know where you and that father lives. But depending on where you live, not reporting someone you know committing crime may cause legal trouble. Have you and him consider taking next action?

Exactly what I thought.
A Cex seizing someone's asset, when they have important information shows that the person must have done something that might have warrant such action, and might even place the person on their radar. And maybe one of the victim might have made the report in this case. It is definitely a tough decision to make at this point considering the fact that OP is related to them, and the father won't want his son to be in any sort of trouble. But like you said, there might be some legal troubles, especially if Bybit decides to handle the case seriously.

Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL!
by
Felicity_Tide
on 27/06/2025, 20:33:30 UTC
This is basically the message of this thread, buy the dip and hodl, not necessarily waiting for it to dip further, buy when you have the funds. You don't know how long that you'll have to wait or if you'd spend the fund on a less important thing. If an investor has a correct knowledge of Bitcoin he'd know that it has the potentials to always reach new ATH. If you're on a steady income then embrace the DCA method and continue to accumulate as much as you can, don't plan to sell prematurely unless you must. Even when you stop to accumulate along the way due to financial problems, you should get back on it as soon as you're back on track.

In as much as I don't really compare large investors to the retail Investors, there are still pretty much few things I think those guys understands well that some retail investors fails to understand. Take purchasing power aside, these big guys understands how the investment game works, and how effective a long term investment can be. How do I know this?,

I just remembered that sometime this year, I guess few weeks(may months) back, when Bitcoin was very close to it's ATH, I got a notification that MS bought another portion of Bitcoin. I was really surprised tbh, but it later occurred to me that the company was never interested in chasing after the dip.

My point is very simple.
These big guys are not after the dip, and they certainly can't afford to lose money either. So what is their strategy here?.... Just a long term Investment plan. I'm not sure of how they raise their funds to make their purchase, but the strategy is very obvious without being told.

This sounds to me a fool proof function. Could there be downsides to this function?

To cut the long story short, next of kin might be denied access probably because he doesn't match or he fails to pass the whole verification process, because for sure, there is definitely going to be tons of verification process. We can't be too relax when it comes to Cex and their security features. I think next of kin doesn't have to go through too much stress just to claim inheritance.

Goodbye, now let us see the attackers we get.

If I understood this season's project very well, it seems the management's plan is to get at least two different players in every position, which I agree because we all knew how injury dealt with them last season especially in the attack. But. My question is, should the defense be the priority for the now?. They signed GK, two DMs, and an incoming CB, which I believe the deal might be completed today or tomorrow. But what about the attack?. That is what the fans are looking forward to imo. Preseason is fast approaching, so things needs be done with speed. A striker and a winger is definitely needed before hand.

From what I'm seeing, it all seems that Arteta prefers to have Sesko ahead of Gyokeres, and I hope he wins a major trophy with him though. Prioritizing a young player over a proven player is still what I don't understand at this point, but I really hope for the best.

Re: It's bad to rely your decisions on game odds.
by
Felicity_Tide

~snip

Let me hear from y'all. What's your take on making decisions by team odds without considering their performance records?

I'm not sure though, but I feel it's a form of bias. You just want to believe that a team has what it takes to win a game even though they've being below average for long(I'm not saying Madrid now). I saw that alot last season, where people would predict for their team or a bigger side to win a game despite their poor performance and H2H.

The thing is, it doesn't matter even if it's the team that you support. They should be judge with their previous performance, injuries, and previous records as well. When you clearly know that a certain key player is not available, I think that should raise a doubt if a team can win a game, and not just assuming that they can win despite the absence of a key player.

I didn't watch the Madrid game, and at the same time, I don't know how good the Saudi side is. There are literally other factors that I would have probably considered like Real Madrid defensive injuries, and the new manager playing his first game. I can't just say because they are madrid, then I will have to give them the win. We all saw how they suffered last season with the too many injuries.

I believe if bettors can learn to make their own analysis and follow up with every happenings, they won't have to rely on whatever odd that is given by bookmarkers.

Quote
I also want us to note that the bookmakers sometimes hide some teams strengths by making them feel like an underdog with higher odds strategies which I believe that caught my guy on trap.

I'm not really sure about them hiding certain things, but I have heard that these bookmarkers gets some info before games(like few minutes to), that sometimes lead to changing the odds. An example was the FA cup finals last season between City and Palace.

Re: DIP stands for Education, Patience, and Opportunity.
by
Felicity_Tide
on 26/06/2025, 21:29:50 UTC
but experienced investors rather buy DIP. When the price drops, they invest according to the opportunity and hold it patiently.

I believe this is one area where very large Investors like Microstrategy tends to have more advantage than regular retail investors that easily sell as a result of FUD or FOMO. You can easily find these large investors buying a very large amount of Bitcoin, but you barely find them selling in times of market crisis.

Everyone can't obviously stick to a long term plan. The market certainly needs those that easily gets panicked, and those that easily fall for FUD, so that others that are long term investors can easily capitalize on any dip being created as a result of the panic sell created.

Quote
DIP does not just mean holding, it teaches us an economic lesson. Start small with Bitcoin every week, DCA consistently and hold patiently.

The same lesson is being taught over and over again, but most people don't just learn. As far as they are concerned, the market shouldn't experience a decline at all, forgetting that things are not always rosy.

Re: The Battle Between USD and Nigerian Naira
by
Felicity_Tide
on 26/06/2025, 17:06:34 UTC
Here's the reality, we have more purchasing power when the Naira has appreciate (or recovered) against the dollars because with the constant inflation of Naira, things are getting expensive for no reason. The Naira falling to N750 instead of the N1,600 that it's trading at the moment, then the price of things are supposed to naturally begin to reduce but the possibility of that not happening is still there due to the economy being a complete joke.

It now feels like things are not even correlating.
I have heard some sarcastic statements of marketers, telling buyers that the price of a particular item decreased on the news, and not in reality. The dollar to naira rate was almost getting to #2K per $1 sometime late last year if i remember correctly. tbh, it is really sickening when we recall that the old glory days was more promising.

Quote
We don't have a stable government and that's what's making the marketers not reducing the price of things because after selling everything and they want to restock, the whole money they realize from the last market mightn't be able to afford them new goods.

Are there no people that ought to checkmate these things.
Are there no people that ought to fight for the well being of the masses?. Ooh, it just occurred to me that Nigeria once had an NLC, but today, it seems they've become a political party of their own.

~snip

So, as a well-meaning and Patriotic Nigerian, do you really wish for that to happen?

My only wish is that a day doesn't come when we all would wish to see dollar to naira rate at #1600, because it seems every hard moment at this point needs to be enjoyed like it's the last.

Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2024/2025
by
Felicity_Tide
on 26/06/2025, 16:35:28 UTC
Yes, the Premier League is just a gathering of rich clubs that no longer justify their status. What's the point of watching games if the champion is already known? Competitive seasons are very rare and even if they are, there are at most two clubs in the race and this race is more virtual than real - in the form of reasoning "if the leader loses points and the one chasing does not, then we will see intrigue". It's a pitiful spectacle, in fact it's much more entertaining to watch the adventures of United or Tottenham  Grin

I believe this is well related to the level of inconsistency in the league. It's really sickening when the middle man(ref) is officiating a game, and the fans of a particular team will be scared and hope that the wrong decisions doesn't go their way. I think the league is good, but i look forward to a day of restructuring the PGMOL. Some changes must be made, because when fans begins to question the competitency and fairness of the officials officiating the games, it makes people lose some sort of interest.

Some media give uncertain speculation, which is what makes many different news. Some reported that Gyökeres did ask the club management to sell him to Arsenal. Which means he really wants to play at Arsenal. If the price is not a problem for all the clubs interested in him, then the agreement will be on Gyökeres to choose to play at any club.

I will be disappointed at the end of the day, if Arsenal fails to sign Gyokeres. For crying out loud, this is not the time to keep trusting the process. The fans needs trophies at this point. Like I have said, I don't see any reason to prioritize a younger player ahead of a proven player. Gyokeres really wants to play for the club as he has turn down Manchester united already. Failing to get this guy is literally like repeating the season again without a striker. Of course, I appreciate Sesko's quality, what this isn't the time to start test running things.

Re: Sports betting as investing
by
Felicity_Tide
on 26/06/2025, 11:24:43 UTC
I would agree to the fact that some bettors might have a portfolio for their betting, which includes both wins and losses, but making betting a form of investment... Hell no. Sport betting is literally not what a bettor can have control over, because you are literally staking your money on someone to do a particular thing in your favor. As long as you don't have control over It, and your win solely depends on what others do, it is clearly not safe to consider it as a form of investment.

How do you turn sports betting into something like investing?

Betting and investment are literally two different words.
They don't relate much because of the level of risk and uncertainty that one possess. But I look forward to seeing anyone that has made sport betting a form of investment, and has done that successfully.

I think it is straightforward, but what I noticed is that Felicity_Tide did not get the second question correctly which makes him also get 7 out of 8, and we can still debate about the ones that I quoted above. I do not know of others. Although, nothing bad at all, we are having fun.

It would have been best if the OP had posted the correct answers from his own point of view. I wasn't even expecting to win this due to how flexible and too personal my answers were.

And as for that number two, I noticed the moment I hit the post button, but the rules are the rules, despite the chance to edit without it showing (edited). I actually specified the average time it takes to hit that 2,016 blocks, which is two weeks.

It is 2016 blocks and not 2140 blocks.

Yeah, I noticed that immediately after I hit the post button.

Quote
Can you explain better with good examples?

I wasn't too sure I understood the question well, but I had to relate(correlate) it to inflation and recession as stated by the OP.
If inflation tends to drive the price of goods higher while reducing purchasing power of fiat, consumers would prefer to put their money in something that can appreciate in other to meet up with the hike.

The reverse happens during times of recession.

Quote
Bitcoin is legal in Nigeria. Or how is bitcoin not legal in Nigeria?

CBN that said it was not legal before also made it legal in December 2023. Regulators were clueless during naira rate was floated and they tried all possible means to stop what is causing the falling of naira price.

It is one thing for Bitcoin to be legal, which I admit, and it is another thing for everyone, including the law enforcement agencies to recognized that legality. I've heard series of cases where people are being manhandled for just having a cex app on a mobile phone.

I'm not talking about the companies that has/must register under the license of the government. I was only considering the regular users. There is a video I'm searching for that perfectly describes what I'm talking about. I hope to find it. But, I feel it's still a two-way thing.

But I definitely look forward to seeing how the OP responds, and identify where correction lies.

I wouldn't advice crypto newbies to use Decentralized exchanges; it's more complicated and the chances of them getting scammed/ losing coins is higher compared to Centralized exchanges. How many of us on this board uses DEx exchanges?  There are too many loopholes on DEX exchanges - scams are not moderated.

Self custodian wallets for storage and CEX exchanges for trading should be a newbie starter pack.

I doubt that up to 3% are using dex on a regular basis.
The main goal of most apps and website that we see today is to offer the best level of user experience, which I think new users(newbies) needs when choosing an exchange. And that is why anyone that has used the best cex in the world can easily navigate through exchanges that has similar interface.

Just imagine getting scammed on a dex, and don't even have anyone to report to. The idea is, the simpler...the better.

But practicing self custody is non negotiable. It is a must, but at least, after learning how and why it must be done.

Yeah you have a point. Although a newbie who wants to maintain privacy may want to avoid exchanges that require KYC.

Privacy is a very big word, and at the same time not that complicated.

The privacy we are trying to maintain, is it from the government or the public in general?.

I personally haven't used a dex before, but I want to assume that users also carry out a normal bank transfer when paying for a coin, and receives a payment when selling, right?.

If someone pays to your own bank which I believe is registered under the surveillance of the same governmen, then there is literally no privacy there. I want to assume that the essence of using a dex for p2p as far as Nigerians are concerned, is to limit our identity that we issue out(like in the KYC).

I might be wrong, but that's my own opinion.

Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions
by
Felicity_Tide
on 25/06/2025, 07:02:15 UTC

Gyökeres is serious about leaving. He has burned his bridges. What do you think his next team will be? I'm still curious about what Arsenal is planning now.

It's quite surprising and at the same time disappointing, to see the extent at which some of this club can go all in the name of cashing out extra from these players. From what I've heard about the saga, Gyokeres signed a five years contract extension with a release clause of €100M in 2023. When Amorim left in the winter transfer window, Gyokeres felt like leaving as well, but decided to stay on one condition, which is that his release clause must be chopped down to the £60-65M that was speculated at first.

Arsenal on the other hand are literally not serious in this transfer window. I even doubt if they have a budget for this very transfer window. Arteta's soft heart for Havertz is the main reason they are not willing to break the banks for Gyokeres. They are literally giving excuses like age, meanwhile, he turned 27 this same month. I see no reason why a club that desperately needs to win trophy should prioritize age over experience. There are still players that Arteta can not count on in a game, but the club is not even willing to let them go. How do you make profit when you fail to sell those that are not useful.

imo, it's either Gyokeres or nothing. At least, make a good offer because six years without a major trophy has been tough for the fans.

I think when people say that they gamble in other to entertain themselves, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are not as serious compared to when someone is gambling to make a profit. Let's take  a typical online gamer for example. They practice all the technics just like you make your own analysis right?, but at the end of the day, they are playing to win and also for entertainment. Nobody likes to lose no matter the type of gambling that they are involved in, besides I haven't seen people joking around when they are after a must win, or in contention with others.

@OP, you've done well by sharing this with the forum.
It seems there are endless and countless numbers of techniques to perform this same phishing scams, and virtual number generation is literally the latest I'm hearing of. Scammers are getting smarter... They are upgrading their techniques so as to meet up with people's awareness and catch new prey. I have personally received so many phishing mails and few SMS. It's sickening though, but we just have to remaining vigilant.

I wonder why people even use virtual numbers from random websites. Is that not a vulnerability on its own?.

I made at attempt to go through the article, but it seems enabling the site cookie is mandatory and not avoidable. While reading through the OP, I was trying to recall reading something about the SparkCat, but it seems January has been a longer time than I thought.

I have always expected a type of malware specifically to target seed phrase screenshots to be introduced sooner. Though, good and secure mobile wallet applications don't permit and allow users to take screenshots of their seed phrase, but some users can go as far as using other phones to capture it all at once. We as users have to understand that the evolution of internet does not guarantee our own security. It makes lives better, but we are still very much at risks.

@OP, are there ways of identifying this type of malware, aside avoiding unnecessary downloads or using fake play stores?.

Re: Bitcoin Survives the War Scare

on 24/06/2025, 13:58:45 UTC
I noticed the decline after the US made their strike on Iran's nuclear site a few days ago. The market reacted the way it should, but bounced back for one reason I guess, and that's because the majority, especially investors, are not buying into their propaganda. If you remember, a similar decline occurred the moment the fight broke out at first, which made Bitcoin drop down to $101K if I remember correctly. Shortly after it bounced back despite the war and strike still ongoing.

The FOMO and propaganda is really making a negative impact, I can't deny to that fact, but I think the majority are not buying into it, so Bitcoin might continue to bounce back as long as it continues. I heard the cease fire just broke few hours ago, and both countries have resumed from where they stopped. We aren't buying into their stories this time, as we can boldly see what's happening.

I didn’t watch the match but I watched the highlights. Pregame I didn’t expect the scoreline to be this close, Mamelodi Sundowns were impressive in the match.  I’m proud as if it was the Super Eagles that performed in the match, they may have lost but they showed quality in the match and that matters to me.

I just finished watching the highlight, and i must say that i'm really impressed. From the few clips i watched, i think their defense killed them, but their attack was just too crazy. It's very interesting when we see African clubs and even country sides, competing with the European side. I believe this particular edition of the club world cup is primarily to create awareness that Africa has got some serious and tough business going down in their own league, so the next time when they see us defeating those tops sides, it won't come come as a surprise.

I think there is one more game to go for Sundowns in the group stage. A draw is not advisable, so i hope they get all points to advance to the next round. Be it a club in Nigeria or South Africa, a win for one is a win for all, and a top performance, especially against top sides, should be appreciated.

Re: Sometimes you win some time you lose the game of gambling

on 23/06/2025, 19:00:30 UTC
Gambling is one funny game that I have seen yesterday I decided to try my luck on some virtual games on a casino and boom luck shine on me I win a significant amount of money and I was very happy 😊 and decided to try my luck today thinking that I will make more money using thesame strategy but it didn't go well today.

This doesn't apply to gambling alone, but other areas of live especially when money is involved. It is just like calculating the odds/chances of a lightening hitting the same spot twice. Life sometimes works in a mysterious ways. There are times when we get lucky or same opportunity presents itself twice, or even more than twice, while other times, people don't even get any. But that shouldn't be enough reason to start chasing after losses, or want to keep betting after consecutive wins. We should remember that gambling is not same as investing. We sometimes use it to to have fun, while other times to stake it while expecting a win.

Quote
I lost everything that I have won including extra money from my pocket one thing that came to my mind that i want to share with us is  that you don't get lucky every day in gambling sometimes you win and some times you  lose too don't take it too personal or get frustrated gambling is a game of luck.

And you know what happens when frustration creeps in?, you begin to chase after all your losses.
Your luck might just be a one time thing, who knows, but thinking that there was a chance of making your recovery at that instant lead to the extra losses, which in this case was the extra money from your pocket. And you were lucky enough that it didn't get far worse.

Interesting thread @OP. I eagerly had to read till the end to know what to do in such a case which wasn't difficult at all, but my problem is the timing. I read exactly similar case on X(twitter), which was shared by a user. The user narrated how the money came, then he waited for days but didn't get a call from anyone. He ended up going to the station, but things eventually escalated, as per se this same police force behaves in an unpredictable manner. Though, he was later freed, but the matter didn't go well, as he was labeled a kidnapper.

The country keeps getting crazy everyday. We're literally facing the fear of insecurity, and now the fear of going to jail for a crime you didn't commit. I just hope we don't fall victim, and thanks to OP for raising the awareness.
