I remember when RedHat Enterprise Linux first came out, as a better, free version of Unix for the business enterprise...  Now today, RHEL is the corporate standard to run enterprise level applications, and all the other enterprise Linux distros like CentOS, Oracle Linux, etc. are just clones of RHEL.

Geekiest analogy of all time Wink

Re: Doubts about bitcoin these days...

I have all my bitcoin saved in storage myself with just one paper backup I only have access to. I just can only wish things would get better. If you are in your 40's and think your bitcoin hoard is going to help you later on in life I wouldn't count on it. Just for bitcoin to get out of the BETA stage could take 15+ years. By the time bitcoin is viable for you to use, you'll be long dead. If you are hoarding for your kids, then that may work out a little better. But not someone from this era. Ancient Rome started with money and it took hundreds of years for that really to catch on. Given the perspective, bitcoin is just a little dot on the time line here. I would just like to see more positive news out there on the bitcoin industry. God only knows what is making it hold in the $600's? I was sure it would drop all the way to $100 or less again.

Ancient Romans weren't online. The internet is a time compression machine. If bitcoin hasn't gone mainstream in 15 years time, then either the project has failed, or another coin has succeeded.

http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2014/03/theres-reportedly-a-bitcoin-car-chase-happening-right-now-and-its-bonkers/

The Associated Press reporter is now saying he isn't the bitcoin "Satoshi".... see here:

From the article linked above:

It’s now emerging that he did it “all for a free lunch”.

Bizarre.

He has actually denied to AP being the inventor of Bitcoin. So that whole chase was for nothing?!

We’ll update you if we hear more. [Joe Bel Bruno via Business Insider]

Just to be clear, the AP reporter currently with "Satoshi" hasn't yet reported back anything. The denial comes via Joel Bel Bruno, an LA Times reporter.

But it's looking interesting!

This nakamoto "denies" he is the bitcoin creator
https://twitter.com/JoeBelBruno/status/441687699112472577

I Called it....

I heard him say that he was not involved, which is exactly what the Newsweek journalist reported....I am no longer involved with Bitcoin, other people have taken it over.

Where did you hear that? Is there a live feed somewhere?

Stuff being deleted from Newsweek article as we speak.

It's gonna hinge on this quote:

"I am no longer involved in that and I cannot discuss it," he says, dismissing all further queries with a swat of his left hand. "It's been turned over to other people. They are in charge of it now. I no longer have any connection."

Interesting choice of words. Denies "being the creator of Bitcoin". Cue theories of a conspiratorial NSA-based nature.

I can't believe the guy published under his realname

Maybe he didn't think it would take off like that, back then?

Well he's got the funds to protect himself, if he is Satoshi  Cheesy

I think that is what everyone around here is getting in such a fizz about, denying it, calling the story fake, and then writing self-reassuring stories of how Bitcoin would bounce right back up even if Satoshi were to dump his stash. etc etc.

Now that his anonymity is gone, he may now be forced or pressurised to draw upon his BTC. Bitcoiners don't want cold storage Bitcoin going to market in search of FIAT, they want FIAT going to market in search of hoarded Bitcoin.

He's currently denying he is Satoshi. Things are getting interesting.

definitely not the same nakamoto

Then Leah McGrath Goodman's career would be in tatters.

Putting out such a story only for it to be proven to be false, would make such a laughing stock of her and the publication, that they would not dare take this risk unless they could back up their claim with verifiable journalistic grounds, if not outright evidence/proof.

It is the real Satoshi Nakamoto.

It's not like journalists and newspapers ever make outrageous mistakes in the pursuit of more readers.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3716151.stm

I'm on the fence on this one now. Initially, it seemed pretty likely. But a few things don't add up. Not least the chances of a man with a history of being fanatically secretive being in the phonebook.

The vultures are descending. You need to understand how journalists think. I was on my college newspaper, so I have a little experience.

This article http://www.businessinsider.com/dorian-satoshi-letter-and-train-2014-3

is going to be used as a rationalization that Dorian Nakamoto is a public figure, and therefor not subject to the legal protections provided to private citizens.

They are going to hound this man. He needs to lawyer up in a hurry.

I simply cannot believe that the man who wrote this:

"Commerce on the Internet has come to rely almost exclusively on financial institutions serving as trusted third parties to process electronic payments. While the system works well enough for most transactions, it still suffers from the inherent weaknesses of the trust based model."

Also wrote this:

"the parking fee + gasoline costs $10 now to get there from my home and i would go there more often with my mother for shoppings."

Journalism is a cutthroat business and they only need the slimmest of pretexts to do awful things to people.

Yes, I get that. But I'm pretty much saying that they've got the wrong guy. And the fallout, for him, will indeed be pretty awful for a while.
