Try fiddling with worksize, i.e reducing it.
Tried 32, 48, 64, 96, 128, 192. The best result was 2.74 MH/s at --worksize 64.Hi, my R9 290 give only 2,5 MHs

I see much less jump, may be 5-10%.
Cause we may be close to the edge, when even xpm gpu mining becomes unprofitable in terms of electricity bills...
