Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs

Anyone knows why NEM has such a low trading volume compared to other top20 crypto projects ?
Price seems kinda not really true/supported at these volumes ?!?

I suspect it's because the price of XEM isn't margin traded and isn't being manipulated. Other coins have either margin trading or huge whales that fake liquidity in order to boost their chance to offload. This is one of the results of NEM having such a good distribution. When you see market action in XEM, it's most likely real.

two words answer

zero inflation = zero mining sellpressure

many coins used to fill 400 supernodes = reduced ammount of coins on exchange

and last but not least

NEM is one of the coins who attracted mostly hamsters

a hamster hardly let a coin leave his hands once he added it to his portfolio

When is the new deadline until Nemcoins will be launch?

there was never a deadline for launch. not sure when it will be but multisig must be implemented and tested thoroughly first before we even consider launching. we WILL get this right first time.. Smiley

99 designs is a good one to use.

I think if the colors were a little different it would work better. Smiley

Yes,

In my opinion, the 9 out of 10 people would choose many logos made at 99 designs, at a $300 bounty, over that one.

Yes, I believe it is really really bad. I AM SORRY TO OFFEND THE TOP GUYS HERE, as obviously you voted on it, but I can't see how.

But anyway, those are my thoughts, is that the logo that we are going to use? If so, lets just move on to better things if all we are doing is bash a logo that is now ours. LOL

No offense taken. This is an interim logo designed to give us consistent branding, and it is better than the original one UP created I think Smiley

Once we move on and get bigger, we should be able to attract some great designers to work with us and improve everything. Right now we are just moving into alpha, so we are still a young movement.

I personally like the logo, though. It is very different from other crypto coins and I like having a symbol rather than text, because we are a global movement and not everyone uses Latin letters.

I thought we were going to vote on a logo after the submissions we narrowed down.
The intentions and meanings are great, but visually it's too much. In my opinion, something simple and unique would be better, like the hexagon/cube logo on the investor handout.
I can't help but think of this old cartoon.

The creators of Bitcoin and NXT are shrouded in mystery.

What if the creation of the New Economy Movement and UP's sudden departure was no accident?

I would not be surprised if his "mistake" was intentionally planned.

UP leaving the leadership role was inevitable, he has hinted about it. Sure he could of left quietly in the same manor as Satoshi and BCnext, but no, not utopianfuture. Yesterday was the kick off.

The exit plan was genius. He cooked up the perfect type of food for the trolls then resigns. The members and trolls get fired up. NEM gets some extra buzz. The trolls list all the controversies and issues. This allows us to debate and get everything weeded out before the launch.

Anyways, that's my fanciful version.

In the short term, the comments will be negative but once the new people get past the drama they will see that NEM has been built on a solid foundation. We have all the necessary components for success: a highly skilled dev team, a large and active community, innovative features, a simple install and easy to use software.

It would be cool if we made our own NEM hip hop video for promoting NEM to the younger crowd.
We can use the audio from the Black Sheep song The Choice is Yours and have someone change-up the lyrics: "You can get with NEM or you can get with them."
Do we need to get permission or would it be considered sampling/parody?

It would be AWESOME if we got the actual Black Sheep group to help us!

If some hard core NEM holder don't know what to do with NXT in a pocket.
Grin
I have simple solution: auction Nxt CPU silver

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/916428/Nxt_3dprint/Nxt_CPU_rare_04_1024px.jpg

That looks like an old Intel 4004 (a 4-bit CPU, circa 1971!). The DIP packaging is old school and does not convey the future of NXT. SOIC (Small Outline IC), PLCC (plastic leaded chip carrier), QFP (Quad Flat Package), PGA (Pin grid array), QFN (quad flat no-lead package) and BGA (ball grid array) are modern SMT packages. Just a little constructive criticism.

I have a question about the NEM client. My family has only one computer, is it safe to run a node while other family members use the same PC? I would like to be able to foraging 24-7 and am concerned that my brother might inadvertently or purposely transfer out some NEM. Are the NEM wallet functions locked while foraging? If not, can it have a user selectable wallet mode and foraging only mode?

The creator of the video accepts bitcoin. They might be interested in getting some NEM to make a video for us.

A short video script for NEM:

The background music is playing Lion King - Circle Of Life.
Fade-in the bitcoin logo.
Next, show the bitcoin market expanding.
Next, show all the altcoins encroaching on bitcoin.
Next, show the altcoins cannibalizing each other.
Fade-out this mess.
Play the opening fanfare music "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" from the movie 2001 A Space Odyssey.
Show the NEM logo in all it's glory.
Que-up some cool music.
Scroll text of all of NEM's awesome features and benefits.
Party hearty.

On the one hand the video is really great and I'd like such talented folks to make a video about NEM but on the other hand they might make it a satire and that would suck.

You might be right, we wouldn't want this to backfire. Some bitcoiners really see the alts as a threat. With 3000 stakeholders, I'm sure we have someone with an equivalent talent for making videos.

With the sudden success of Aurora (even it if is a bubble), it is apparent that crypto needs to have an impact in the physical world.

From this, one idea is to donate NEM to start a cooperative village where people use NEM in their daily lives. This should be a remote area that is self-sufficient. Even if there is not internet access, we might be able to set up satellite internet infrastructure. I think that would be an amazing demonstration of how crypto could be used anywhere for secure, decentralized transfer of money.

Another thing to keep in mind is that we wouldn't want to interfere with the local culture of the area. I envision setting up some NEM access points (places with internet) and then people can go use those, with minimal interference into their language and culture.

The question is, where could we do such a thing? It should take a lot of time and dedication from people working locally in an area.

Some ideas are:

1) Bhutan. I think I have seen users from Bhutan on bitcointalk. We could set up solar satellite internet access in some remote village and have everyone in the village conduct transactions in NEM using iPads or something similar. There are some villages that are quite a few days walking from any large city and people are mostly self-sufficient. We would need to have someone local there to run things.

2) Japan. With so many people moving to big cities, there are places in the countryside that are extremely secluded and people grow their own food and make a lot of things themselves. Even in the countryside, though, there is ample electricity and cellular infrastructure, so people would be able to access a P2P network. Also, the government here does not consider crypto to be money and it is currently not regulated.

3) Ukraine. I know people that I definitely trust in western Ukraine near Poland (Lviv). There are some small villages in the Carpathian mountains that are fairly secluded from outside influence. The people I know in Lviv would probably be willing to help or maybe run this full time for us if we provided the resources.

These are some ideas, but as a community, it would be great if people could come up with ideas on how to establish a NEM co-operative. If done right, NEM could make all the major news networks and generate some great publicity. The more important thing, though, would be that we could help real people improve their lives, while respecting their culture (for example, people in a remote village could sell goods online using NEM).

Mokoto I guess u are referring to me Smiley . Ok I like your idea, I thought about it and it looks very hard to implement. I have asked my friend (Tsel_bt) who works for the Ministry of trade and industry to see if something like this could be done. He is in-charge of setting small cottage industries in villages like the ones you mentioned.

First of all, almost all farmers in Bhutan are illiterate or only semi-literate, ipads are sadly a luxury for most folks in Bhutan, they cannot afford it. The currency is highly regulated by the central bank and any alternative payment system must be approved by them. Lastly it would be an almost impossible transition for people who have never used the internet to overnight shift to using cryptocurrency as a payment mechanism.

That said, its still a good idea, I will get in contact with friends in the RMA( central bank) to see if it would be allowed. If we can get their approval we can proceed further.

Sounds great.

I think if we could do something like this, we would set up all the infrastructure based on donations from the community and charity donations from the genesis block. Doing this with people who have never used the internet before would be ideal I think, because it would force us to make a simple interface on top of NEM.

Another point I want to stress is that it would be great to do this in a way that is complementary and not disruptive to culture. Therefore, I don't think the government needs to worry too much. In remote areas, I think having a crypto-based payment system would be preferred in rural areas like that, because people could have access to their money when traveling and wouldn't have to travel with lots of cash.

The idea is to get crypto out into the real world and try to make a difference without changing local cultures.

There's a recently published report  http://www.franceculture.fr/emission-le-magazine-de-la-redaction-monnaie-locale-monnaie-a-taille-humaine-2014-02-21 regarding two 'local money' projects based on LETS (Local Exchange Trading Systems) principles: one in the Basque country and one about to be launched in Montreuil (Northern France). A key aspect of the Basque Country local money is that it is seen as helping to strengthen the Basque culture (including its language).

Seems to me that NEM could play a similar role for the many regions around the world which have a LETS system in place and which want to retain/strengthen their identity/culture. NEM could also overcome a problem with all local money schemes, one which can hinder their widespread adoption in the particular region - they aren't convertible (either easily or at all) into the country's main fiat currency.

I made a similar post in the NXT discussion thread a week or so ago following a reference to LETS being a possible fit with NXT, but the subject hasn't been pursued any further since then so far as I'm aware.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg5319878#msg5319878

Here is more information on LETS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Local_exchange_trading_system

It's a good idea. Does anyone want to spearhead this?

A mutually beneficial project that NEM should be a part of.

"The Outernet project seeks to bring free internet to whole world.

The New York City-based non-profit organization Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF) is building a global network of cube satellites to freely broadcast Internet data around the world. Dubbed Outernet, the project is founded on the principle that Internet access is a basic human right, not a privilege to be purchased.

MDIF seeks to accomplish its goal by harnessing datacasting technology over a low-cost satellite constellation, allowing transmissions to bypass censorship, ensure privacy, and offer a globally-accessible information service, similar to shortwave radio. This inevitably reduces reliance on costly internet services, the greatest factor deterring 40% of the world's population from accessing the Internet, more so than even restrictive governments."

I agree, just take the money you would spend on mining equipment and buy BTC directly.
Take a look at NXT, no high powered ASIC mining required, only efficient low power forging.
