Earn Discord Roles on Braavos, possible airdrop
by
Galahad
on 23/10/2023, 19:53:27 UTC
Starknet is a Rollup for layer 2 on Ethereum. It provides high throughput, low gas costs, and retains Ethereum Layer 1 levels of security. Starknet uses ZK Starks. zk-STARKs are a type of zero knowledge proof that does not require a trusted setup by a group of people.

By using my link you can get the following:

  • Earn points on Braavos' Zealy and use them to get Special Discord roles on Braavos.
  • Be an early adopter by using the Starknet DAPPs, making transactions and doing staking.
  • Use of the Dapps increases your Pro Score on Braavos which is a measure of how well you're doing on Starknet.
  • If Starknet or Braavos ever do an airdrop you may get free coins.

Invite Link: https://zealy.io/c/braavos/invite/PegGtYI9WBXMZ4-vNq1sK

What chance of airdrop is there? 7% of the Starknet tokens have been allocated for the community so here's hoping. Braavos may do a coin at some point. It has been hinted at but not confirmed.
Why am I doing this? I get 50 points on Zealy for each person who joins and completes a quest, thanks in advance.

Re: Is it always safe to connect your (metamask) wallet?

So basically just connect to known popular sites like Uniswap (but don't because it's fee robbery lol). Of course this might not work if the project is new and you're investing in a low-cap token, and any project could have a crooked developer or two.

Is it always safe to connect your (metamask) wallet?

There are so many websites these days that require you to connect. I've been connecting other wallets with low balances to test things out, but there doesn't seem to be much information around on what is good practice here.

My big balances are secured by Ledger so I suppose I don't need to worry about the coins simply being stolen without my approval, but what if I connect the Ledger to approve some coins and it steals other coins or uses the approval for something else. Is any of this possible?

When should I not connect to a website?

Re: Different Ethereum token = different fees?

Do you wanna say to compare the tx fees on NFTX with your chainlink? It should be caused by the calculation based on the amount of token combined with the price of the token.
Remember this if the exchange site didn't wanna calculate based on the network fees equally but the exchange site was charging the fees based on how many tokens that already determined as withdrawal fees. that's why it could be more than the standard fees on blockchain.

It seems like the exchange site is not yet adjusting the fees for NFTX.

This is a TX from my wallet to the exchange so the exchanges are not calculating anything.

Different Ethereum token = different fees?
by

on 28/04/2021, 20:52:23 UTC
I've been trying to send some NFTX recently and both Metamask and Ledger Live keep quoting me around $40. This is at a time when TXs are about $10-15 each. If I pretend to send some Chainlink it quotes me $10.

So my question is this: Why do different tokens cost more or less? I'm assuming that the fee is the same regardless of the value of the tokens being sent.

Polkadot account creation question
by
Galahad
on 13/04/2021, 17:21:37 UTC
I've been trying to understand Polkadot lately but I'm still a bit lost on the accounts when using https://polkadot.js.org/ .

The top left menu lets you switch to a different coin/network. But when I create an account I can't tell which coin that is relevant for.

Is it like an Ethereum account where it can contain tokens from any other Ethereum token? Or are Polkadot coins all need separate addresses?

The first  account I created seems to appear in any of the networks I select, but when I created a second one is only appears under Clover where I created it.

When I click on "Add Account" it shows the Seed and other details but it does not say what I can / can't use this account for.

Re: Why has no-one done a crypto Ebay?

Why do you presume that crypto marketplaces will have zero or less fees than traditional markets? I am sure crypto related ecommerce websites will have more fees when coupled with transaction fees which will also eat into your profit margin.

Decentralized model is not always sustainable when it comes to an online marketplace that sells physical goods. Also the trust factor matters a lot! Don't stay under the impression that everything decentralized is good!

Because with a decentralized system it does not have to be profit oriented. You can just set the thing running and charge only what is needed to make it work. Ebay have a lot of staff and other overheads. Not that a decentralized system would always be great. If you need support you could be out of luck depending on how it's operated.

Darkweb is the biggest marketplace of internet and you could buy anything you want by paying cryptos. Also use market place section of bitcointalk as temporary solution in case if you need it.

Like I said I don't want to use the darkweb / tor.

I don't use Ebay, but don't some of those fees cover the taxes? I mean, as far as I know if you're selling something on Ebay, the taxes are considered paid, it's all legal. I also came accross this discussion that seems to confirm my hypothesis. So my point is, it's not only Ebay getting rich from the fees they impose (even though they are), but it's also the fees associated with the whole buying-selling business their fully legal. Darkweb markets are obviously not paying taxes (right?), and if a version of ebay accepted cryptos and did everything to remain legal, it would probably impose fees like that as well.

If the fees were tax then nobody could undercut their prices. But Ebid has significantly lower fees than Ebay does.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For others. I just want to make it clear I'm not talking about trading cryptocurrencies; I'm talking about buying and selling things.

First of all, a "crypto Ebay" would not be feeless. Handling with Bitcoin costs always fees.
Secondly, crypto Ebay's already exist in the Dark Web. There you can find many marketplaces and Ebay clones where you can buy all things and stuff (legal and illegal) with Bitcoin and cryptos like Monero.

I just meant feeless from the Ebay perspective. They charge huge ammounts of money to sell things. Crypto transactions can be tiny.
Like I said I don't want to use the darkweb. This isn't about doing something illegal it's about having a cheaper and more viable alternative to Ebay.

What do you mean? There are (or have been) several. Here's a decentralized one: https://openbazaar.org/

Maybe I could have said "are there any" really because there's bound to be something just not something which is necessarily making it on a big scale.

I'm sick of the fees on Ebay it's become totally unprofitable for some items due to the massive fees. I use Facebook marketplace but that's more for local sales.

With crypto Ebay you could have near zero fees and have a decentralized marketplace model. I know there are things on TOR etc, but I just wouldn't trust it tbh..

This usually happens where this is a deliberate restriction on the coin created by the creator. They may not let you use the tokens yet or only at certain dates or times.

I had the exact same problem. I couldn't figure out why the blockchain on the Ledger showed 2000 confirmations but blockchain.info had 0 and 0 balance.
But I don't see any settings for this as suggested here.

Re: Which is the best DEX to use?

There is Bisq. It is the only decentralized exchange that I know that trades fiat/crypto as well as altcoins. Plus it has a huge amount of altcoins listed.
Good info.

Which is the best DEX to use?
by
Galahad
on 10/09/2017, 17:21:33 UTC
Any exchanges which are not part of Bitcoin itself (or other coin) are vulnerable to attacks (e.g Mt Gox). So it makes sense that we should try to move our trades to a decentralized exchange or DEX. The only ones I know about are Counterparty, Omni or NXT at the moment. On Counterwallet or Omni I see very few trades going through and on NXT I can't see any trades except my own.

I know that there are a few other coins in development with a DEX (BTCD, internet of coins) but I can't see any consensus on which is the best option at the moment.

So what is the state of play on DEXes at the moment? Am I too early, is development still in its infancy?

Edited: OK maybe it's fixed now..

Bitcoin will just atrophe?
by

on 01/11/2014, 15:32:23 UTC
What do you think of this article?

http://fortune.com/2014/10/24/bitcoin-fraud-scam/

The problem of merchant acceptance is not resolved and without it Bitcoin is just valueless tokens. There might be a limited supply but a limited supply of something that is not used for anything.

The biggest hurdles have been the interface between fiat and Bitcoin, and merchant acceptance. People can't buy in to use them and retailers don't seem to be all that interested. They may trial it but then discontinue again several months later after receiving no payments. Why is this suddenly going to work?

Every exchange as far as I can tell is a little shaky for one reason or another.  For instance btc-e is in Russia or something.  I'd love a site that is clear, easy to use, and there was some assurance that everything was legit so if it went under you could get something back.  Gox was big but so shady about where all the funds were.  See it's weird, the thing that would make an exchange reputable is if there was some big entity backing it, but that also goes against Bitcoin's principles.

I just think that the exchanges should be P2P as well and I think there are lots of solutions in the pipeline for this but probably none which are ready to use just yet. But I thought I would ask anyway.

There are no safe exchanges, yet.

What would you consider safe?
