On the contrary the industry needs the capability for mass advertising, promotion and education. "MASS"!  That is the next wave.

It is, yes. And this is part of the reason for a lot of the ill-feeling towards Ripple... instead of going for widespread public adoption they're bypassing it and working direct with the banks.
(this is not a pro- OR anti-Ripple post!)

Ripple is not positioning itself as a currency nor is Ethereum. It would seem that Dash would be next in line if they don't fix this scaling issue soon.

Question - Why is nobody using BITSQUARE. We all whine about centralized exchanges like Polo and Bittrex and then nobody uses the decentralized exchange. What is that about?

Re: Why i prefer POW over POS
by

on 17/05/2017, 18:26:47 UTC
POS-coins are more like exclusive circles of traders while pow is open for everybody even later in the game.

How is this even the case? How can you jump in the mining game in bitcoin anymore? it's centralized in china for a long time so im just wondering how it's possible in your mind to get started with mining in 2017, that's ridiculous.

At the end of the day, in both POS and POW, it's the same, you need to invest millions to have a say in the mining game.

Traditional banks have been more like more like exclusive circles of traders " since there inception. They pay interest on your deposit. Dont see why anybody finds the idea unpalatable.

Re: Invest into Stellar
by

It is just like Ripple. The community doesn't like it, says its premine, and so on and so forth, but then the price rises. So i believe it will follow ripple's path, even though i will not buy it.

Then if is just like ripple the price may have more upside? I might grab a little for a week or two. Any exchanges have steller with margin trading?

Stellar is just another speculation coin with no usage and pure speculation.

When the hype peak, it will just crashed as bad as litecoin.

It is now May 2017. I am reading this old thread. I have both Stellar Lumens AND Litecoin

Guess what? Litecoin is crushing it and Lumens are now around 4 cents from almost free.

It was a smart investment and have PROVEN to be so.

Premined does NOT mean it is bad. That is a myth that people hear and regurgitate over  and over again without really understanding what they are advocating.

CryptoQueenWiki

what you are saying it's true, but stellar got popular because of some linking features with your bitcoin address like byteball and a bunch of other, and i think some of those coins that hit big value with very high premine got very lucky frankly speaking, many other will die soon

Isn't Stellar a ripple knock off? I think it is rising in sympathy with Ripple.  Ripple is now half the marketcap of bitcoin. (Huh)

Re: [ASK] Why do people buy altcoin?
by
GetClams.com
on 17/05/2017, 17:14:03 UTC
Everybody is looking for the next bitcoin. which is silly. And many people are just caught up in the excitement of it all. Ultimately all of this is good for bitcoin as it drive up bitcoins price. You have to for the most part buy bitcoin to buy an altcoin. And it creates new tech for bitcoin to incorporate at some point in the future.

Re: Why i prefer POW over POS
by
GetClams.com
on 17/05/2017, 17:11:15 UTC
Both methods are cost effective , as with POW you spend money on electricity costs in order to mine the block which could end up with an unsuccessful haul or successful. With POS it's the same except you use the funds in your possession which is on the line in contrast to electricity costs & mining equipment. As with the POW the more funds you use could result in a larger reward but also bares an increased risk of losing majority of your funds invested in the POS. Someone beautifully summed up POS, saying as it's basically putting your money where your mouth is.

I'm thinking to mine ethereum asap before the POS comes in , save up some coins until the protocol changes over. Then use the vast amount of eth you've stored to result in more using POS system. But also could the ethereum blockchain split again?, this time one POS and one POW! who knows :p

Great explanation. Also I dont think we would have this scaling  problem with POS becaus the miners and the holders are the same party.

maybe they now do but i have been with them since time and they don't verify whether i'm real.

but why don't you use a name that's somehow believeable and have some documents for it. there's also cryptopia which don't care whether who you are.

How can I use a name that's "somehow believable" and have documents for it? That's nonsense.

Anyway, I tried entering fake data and I got rejected. They check against public records. This is bullshit. Fuck bittrex and fuck poloniex for their lag. The rest of exchanges have no volume so it's useless, can't find good buy orders.

Im trading on Bittrex.for around two months and have not ask for my address or any id. Luckily i just register there early. Anyway, that's sad because only few exchanges are decentralised. My suggestion is to give your identity. If you're not doing anything bad. Why not give your id?

How does your account look like in "account information"? Do you have the "DIGITAL TOKEN TRADING" box empty?

And i dont want to enter information because I dont trust the exchanges or anyone on the internet.

Unfortunately that is the way tings are heading. Look at Coinbase and the IRS problems. The solution is a DECENTRALIZED exchange like Bitsquare.  There is also some new decentralized technology for trading coming out. This is really awesome:

https://media.consensys.net/introducing-swap-a-protocol-for-decentralized-peer-to-peer-trading-on-the-ethereum-blockchain-d4058f3179cf?gi=b899128450da

"Unlike ShapeShift, Swap users can set prices and make orders, and have the ability to fill orders from multiple counterparties. Unlike 0x, Swap users are matched on intent to buy or sell, rather than trading on a public order book...."

I once llayed a game that had small amounts of bitcoin you could discover or find. Game also had a marketplace where you could sell stuff for small amounts of btc. Games like that would be cool of enough ppl played it woild be profitable to trade and craft.

If they payed out enough, it would attract tons of new users too and increase the price of bitcoin.

What do we really need from an altcoins, what is the next big thing?
We have anoncoin, platforms for trading and smart contracts, tokens..
Where are we heading?
Bitcoin was something completely new, can we expect another one?

we need "developers" not "business men".
and right now we have the later.

bitcoin is successful because it was made by a developer who wasn't looking to make money, you can see that after 8 years Satoshi coins has not yet moved and possibly will never move in the foreseeable future.

can you say the same thing for any of the altcoins? not at all.
ETH that everybody praise, has Vitalik who dumped a massive load on the first pump and as soon as the dumping began and took out a couple of million dollars out. and that was only 25% of his personal stash.

the rest of the altcoins are the same. they are made with one thing in mind and that one thing is "how to make more money out of it".

and as long as this is the mentality, nobody in the market will treat altcoins more than a pump and dump.

..."we need "developers" not "business men".
and right now we have the later."

On the contrary the industry needs the capability for mass advertising, promotion and education. "MASS"!  That is the next wave.

I first remember hearing about bitcoin, at least enough to get me to actually look into it, back in 2012 because of a Linode bitcoin hack.

Maybe some people will look into bitcoin because of this, now.

Many many people will. And they will see that bitcoin is not evil. They will see many positives about it so this is very good kin the long run.

Re: Monitoring WannaCry hackers' bitcoin addresses in real time
by

I thought they'd have gained a lot more bitcoin's by now. I'm assuming the number of payments will rise dramatically as we get near some of the deadlines they set for ransoms to be paid?

The NHS can't just lose patients records by not paying.....can they?

This event raise awareness of the ransom malware which will help prevent its success in the future. Also if these guys don't make much money and it appears they are not, this could be the turning point where hackers begin lose interest in the concept.

Either way  with the increased awareness of bitcoin the long term affect is overwhelmingly positive.

Re: Can Bitcoin be counterfeited.

The beauty of distributed ledger / blockchain is that it can not be counterfeited.  Nor can the details of a transaction be modified once the transaction is confirmed. More coins can not be created outside of the protocol. That is what makes bitcoin superior to fiat. It can not be manipulated.

Re: In what situation would Bitcoin die?
by

on 17/05/2017, 16:27:13 UTC
I heard that bitcoin died already about 200 times hehe.It is really weird but it is truth.Price falls down and they say bitcoin will die and then it grow then say bitcoin go to 1 million $ and after that again big drop comes and they say again bitcoin dead and this happents in circle so only best marketers can know that bitcoin will not die.

Bitcoin will never die. It may fluctuate but will never die and is permanently in the history books. My hat off to you Satoshi Nakamoto.

Re: Problem with Poloniex
by

it doesn't matter what they say, their actions are unacceptable. they have a volume of nearly 600,000,000 dollar each day and even if you only consider a 0.2% fee of that amount, it means a 1.2 million dollar pure profit each day. with that amount of money they must provide a much better service.

and i find it funny that all the other exchanges are working well but only they are under DDoS!

Don"t forget Polo get .2% on b ot sides so they actually make .4% on each transaction. That said I think they are doing the best they can. That .4% is their incentive to keep the machine working smoothly.

Re: IF the NSA wanted to take control over Bitcoin, how would they do it?
by
GetClams.com
on 17/05/2017, 15:45:11 UTC
NSA or any other agency won't gain anything by destroying Bitcoin because it's not a threat to the national security of any country right now and I don't think it will be any time soon. Plus Bitcoin is open-source right? So any tampering with the source code or placing backdoors would be easily noticed wouldn't it?

Abslutley! it would be an exercise in futility for any government to try and manipulate bitcoin.  The genie is out of the bottle nad now we are in control.

Ultimately the free market will rein if there is a switch to another coin. At that point its up to the merchants that accept bitcoin who very well may be freaked out tat that point. Lets hope it doesn't get that far.

Bitcoin needs a new consensus mechanism for things like this.  While I don't think a hardfork would do too much harm to the market, it would be a shame if it did.
