Re: Are trading volumes normally this low?

Thanks for the info, the reason I ask is because I have built a trading bot that I am in the process of testing. We have had the odd day on GDAX in the last month where the ETH-EUR volume has been over 100,000 and in those periods the bot worked great. Problem is at the minute the volume is so low the price swings are not really happening at a decent rate. Even when the volume was around 30-40k the bot worked ok but at the minute it a slog in the mud with it.

Doesn't help either that when I look at the ETH-USD on GDAX the volume is much higher. Just a shame they won't open that market up to people in Europe.

Are trading volumes normally this low?

I have just gotten into trading coins from mining them and have watched the markets over the last 3-4 weeks. I've noticed in the last week that trading volumes have gone really low, GDAX Eth was around 25,000-30,000 a day and now its under 10,0000.  Is this normal or is it unusually low at the minute?

Re: ICO - Is there a definitive difference between a new coin and a new token?

I see what you mean but Im wondering what really classes as a "coin"?

I think Musicoin for example has a blockchain to itself. Where as Cryptokittes are simply tokens that are build on top Ethereum.

Would you class both of these as coins? I just trying to understand how rigid the word "coin" is in ICO.

ICO - Is there a definitive difference between a new coin and a new token?
by

on 13/02/2018, 13:22:14 UTC
I been wondering what everyones take is on what classes as an ICO.

For example:

  • I download an already established coin from Github and then convert it to be used for my purposes
  • I create a new project and token i.e. Cryptocitties on top of the Ethereum platform.

Technically they are do different things, 1 is a coin and 2 is a token. Does the term "ICO" cover both of these when you are trying to promote your new project?

Is it worth mining Ethereum anymore based on these stats?
by
Golfmad
on 26/09/2017, 10:48:08 UTC
Hi

I am currently mining on ethermine.org with a Hashrate of around 174, according to the payout calculator on the site I will be getting 0.67 Eth a month. Based on 7 cards running at 1200w an hour at £0.12kwh it equates to around around £120 a month. Now at the current uk price I will get around £140 for about 0.67 ETH, minus the cost of mining it will leave me with around £15-£40 profit.

Just wondering what everyone else thinks about this? Will the upcoming changes to Ethereum improve the above or make things worse, especially with the reduction in reward?

Cheers

I really like the look of Musicoin at the minute. Looks like a solid idea for an industry that needs some sort of correction.

Do Coin Prices Increase With Difficulty Levels?

Hi all,

Just wondering if in general you tend to see an increase in coin prices with the increase of difficulty? Is it a supply and demand factor?

Benefits/downside of a pool with a larger PPLNS share amount?
by
Golfmad
on 08/07/2017, 11:58:29 UTC
Hi

I am currently mining on a pool that has suddenly had a big spike in the number of miners and hash rate of the pool, at the minute the number of shares is 8000. They have just released another PPLNS pool where the number of shares is 100,000. Would it be a benefit for me to make the switch? At the minute the total number of miners on that pool is significantly less, Im not sure what if anything is the benefit of switching to a pool where the PPLNS is 100,000.

Thanks

Couple of Questions About Pool Mining
by
Golfmad
on 07/07/2017, 22:32:23 UTC
Hi

I have a couple of questions when it comes to pool mining, at the minute I am using a pool that uses pplns 3000 and now they have an alternate pool that has pplns 100,000. Is there any benefit moving from the lower pool to the alternate? Im fairly new to pool mining so getting my head around pplns.

Also the mew alternate pool has significantly less miners on it, with myself only having 160mhs would it be more beneficial to go in with them or stick it out in a pool where there are numerous miners with 1+ ghs?

Thanks

Claymore only activating GPU mod when connected to monitor
by
Golfmad
on 30/06/2017, 12:18:03 UTC
Hi

Here is an interesting discovery and I think it has to do with Claymore. It turns out that my GPU mod seems to only be working with the card that is plugged into the monitor. I have a 4 GPU rig and I have modded all the cards and applied afterburner to them.

I ran the miner and it stated the following

GPU 1 - 24mh, GPU 2 - 27mh (plugged in)

So I decided whilst it was still running to remove the monitor cable and place it in GPU 1 and I got the following.

GPU 1 - 27mh (plugged in), GPU 2 - 24mh

So I then switched it back to the original GPU whilst still running the miner and it has remembered both hash rates.

GPU 1 - 27mh , GPU 2 - 27mh (plugged in)

Re: Really need some help with AMD card modding

That's correct, you need to patch the driver with the pixel patcher to bypass the signature check with a modded bios. Once the card shows up in Device Manager without errors, you can overclock and undervot it using Afterburner before starting the miner. Somewhere around 1150 MHz for the core clock and 2075 MHz for the memory clock with a -98 mV undervolt should get you to 28 MH/s.

Hi, the only driver install that I have done is to install the latest AMD driver a couple of days ago when building the rig. After this I had modded the card and  the patcher works so that I can see the card but still no change in the hash rate. Do I need to reinstall the drivers for each card when I mod it?

If you have cards with a modded Bios, you need to use the pixel patcher any time there is a driver update, after adding a card or changing the Bios. If the card is still not recognized in Device Manager, uninstall the drivers in safe mode using DDU, reinstall the driver and apply the pixel patcher.

Ok still no luck and here is exactly what I have done. I have 2 cards installed so I can compare.

1. Downloaded mod from here https://anorak.tech/c/downloads/sapphire
2. Flashed 1 card bios with the rom.
3. Used DDU to remove the drivers.
4. Installed latest AMD Drivers.
5. Used the patcher to patch the AMD driver.
6. Restarted the machine and the card with the mod is accepted.
7. Opened Claymore miner and still showing both cards at 22mhs.

I have even tweaked the settings with Afterburner and the hash rate goes down!

Sad Really frustrating.

Using a modded rom from someone else is not a good idea. It's always safest to do the Bios patch yourself using your original Bios. That way you know the Bios came from the card and is not renamed wrong or incompatible with the card. If you saved the original Bios, which you should always do, mod the original after you save a copy using this guide depending on the memory type the card has:

http://1stminingrig.com/sapphire-rx-470-nitro-oc-4gb-bios-flash-mod-tutorial-hynix-elpida-samsung-micron/

Thanks yeah I've tried doing them myself and using an already modded file. Wonder if I would be quicker doing the hashing myself with pen and paper Smiley

The jumper is switched to be near the outputs. I am currently using DDU and will reinstall the drivers, will let you know if it works. Thanks

Really need some help with AMD card modding
by

Hi guys

I have been trying for days to get my Sapphire RX 570 nitro+ cards to hash hire than the stock 22mhs. I have created the correct .rom file using Polaris bios editor, I have flashed the card using ATIFlash and I have also patched the system to get the mod recognised but still no luck at all.

The flash seems to go ok, when I restart the card is not recognised until I patch the system and after that I can see it in Windows 10. Someone has mentioned reinstalling the drivers after the mod, will this make any difference? I would imagine I would still have to patch the latest AMD Drivers because they instantly don't recognise the card again.

I have 4 cards in operation and if I load the card details using GPU-Z the bios info is the same for each card even after the mod. Not sure if this is meant to change after modding the card.

Thanks

For this particular card should I be copying both the 1: and 2: from 1500 - 2000? Still had no luck in shifting the hash rate.

I downloaded the latest Crimson driver 17.4.4. Also patched the system so that the modded rom would be recognised. It is Windows 10 btw

I have been going through the forums over the last few days trying to work out how to mod my cards so that I can increase the hash rate from 22mhs. The problem is that no matter what I try I cant get the hash rate to increase, i'm probably missing a step and was hoping that someone here might be able to help.

My main issue here is that I am a little unsure as to what to put down for timings values. I have 2 sets (1: andd 2:) with hynix memory and so far I have copied 1:1500 to 1:2000 and 2:1500 to 2:2000. Is this correct for this type of card? As mentioned when I then flash the bios I see no change in the MH rate and Im stuck on 22!

Thanks for the help, been on this for a few days.
