Whats going on with all the orphaned blocks on the chain? I'm showing 30 of them today alone with only 1 valid PoS payment.
There was a exploit found, there are new wallets available and a hard fork happening at block #192000 to fix it.
NickS (from discord):
Hey guys! Recently it's come to our attention that there's been a bit of an exploit in the difficulty retargeting portion of the blockchain, allowing for the PoS difficulty to be reset to 0. As you can expect, this causes quite a few problems, namely the orphans that everyone's been seeing, as the difficulty gets reset to a very low number. Because of this, everyone's input simultaneously finds the same block.
As a result, we've decided to implement a fix and create a hard fork on the blockchain to address this. Essentially the fix consists of an upper/lower bound on how much the difficulty can change per block, which will help to stop the difficulty from being reset. Besides this, though, since we're already making the decision to hard fork, we decided to go and slightly modify the rewards following 210k to be a little more advantageous to MNs over staking. The new breakdown is:
Block 210,000 -> 420,000 : 8 SPD (Staking), 12 SPD (MNs)
Block 420,000 -> 630,000 : 4 SPD (Staking), 6 SPD (MNs)
Block 630,000 -> 850,000 : 2 SPD (Staking), 3 SPD (MNs)
etc.
We also primarily deactivated the Masternode List Tab on the wallet, as it was causing quite a few of the CPU issues as well as crashing that many people have been experiencing. Besides this, though, you guys MUST update by block 192,000 in order to still be on the chain. Sorry for the urgency, but we figured it's better to address the difficulty retargeting issue sooner rather than later.
