Re: Russia fines Google ... more than all the money in the world
by

This is quite funny... Russia trying to fine Google. Of course, Russia might be able to fine some Google people living in Russia.

The greater question is, if Russia can make this stick, are we living in a One World Government already? Such might not be as funny as attempting to fine Google.

Russia 'fines Google $20,000,000,000,000,000, -000,000,000,000,000,000' - more than all the money in the world

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14019641/Russia-fines-Google-money-world.html
Google has been fined a staggering 20 decillion dollars by a Russian court - more than all the money in the world, according to reports.

The tech giant is facing claims from 17 Russian TV channels after banning their accounts on YouTube, which it owns, as a result of international sanctions.

Pro-Kremlin channels involved in the case reportedly include Russia 1 and the platform belonging to Russia Today presenter and Putin mouthpiece Margarita Simonyan.
...

Cool

If the basis for the account suspension Is legit, I see no reason why the court should fine Google such outrageous amount which sounds like a joke already..
But on a second thought 🤔, to fine 17 accounts belonging to a particular country is something to ponder over

Re: Security tips for making encrypted backups of your seedphrase.
by
Hameed93
on 28/03/2024, 19:00:39 UTC
The most adopted and convenient method of making backups of an HD wallet is by writing down a sequence of words known as the BIP39 recovery phrase (or simply seedphrase) which when combined form a seed that derives the masterprivkey and, consequently, the child keys and Adresses.

It is up to you to write down this seedphrase and store it safely in an offline environment, such as on paper, steel plates, etc. Never store it online i.e. in an online notepad or email, because if your computer is compromised, it becomes very easy for someone to steal your bitcoins.

However, if you store it in a physical location such as your office drawer, and someone has possession of this seedphrase and has sufficient knowledge of the importance of this information, they could act maliciously and steal your money. A commonly used solution to avoid this problem would be to encrypt the seedphrase and there are several methods and some of them vary in security i.e some users encrypt a seedphrase with aes, gpg, compression tools like winrar, 7zip protected by passwords (I've done this a lot in the past) and also with BIP39 Passphrase.

Of these methods mentioned, BIP39 Passphrase is undoubtedly the most used due to it being widely used by hardware wallets, as in addition to being the most secure, it reinforces the entropy of your seedphrase by combining your seedphrase + passphrase generated by you, resulting in a wallet unique access code "hidden" behind that password.

Regardless of the method chosen, the user now has to save 2 information: Seedphrase + password, and in the case of BIP39 Passphrase, the passphrase must always be memorable, as there is no way to recover it if it's lost and it'd only be used if you fully understand how it works.

Some wallets such as Electrum, Sparrow, Bitcoin Core and Schildbach wallet have a functionality to import/export encrypted backups with your wallet's encryption password, and this is very interesting, as in addition to being done in a theoretically safe way, you don't need to resort to other third-party encryption methods that may compromise your seedphrase. With this encrypted digital backup, you can easily make multiple copies and spread them to different locations such as pen drives, SD cards and the cloud.

https://www.talkimg.com/images/2024/03/28/VZYCb.png

If you want to make encrypted digital backups, Electrum and Sparrow are one of the wallets that allow you to do this safely, but I leave some observations below:

  • There are more than one type of seed: BIP39 and Electrum, BIP39 is accepted in most wallets, while Electrum seeds are only adopted by Electrum.
  • If you want to do this on Electrum, your wallet needs to be created on Electrum, as a native Electrum wallet allows Electrum to save your encrypted seedphrase and whenever you need that seedphrase, you can view the backup and make physical copies by writing it down on paper, and a BIP39 wallet that was imported into electrum is not possible, because in this case Electrum don't save the imported seedphrase, it only uses it at the time of import to calculate xpriv/ypriv/zpriv, but if you want, even so if you saving a digital copy of a BIP39 wallet imported into Electrum, you can recover the funds, but your seedphrase won't be saved in the file (unless it's a native electrum wallet).
  • If you want to make a digital backup of a BIP39 seedphrase, you can use Sparrow Wallet for this, you can either create a new wallet with or without a passphrase or import an existing seedphrase, encrypt the wallet with a good password. If you need to import your seed to another wallet, you can open the backup generated by sparrow (using Sparrow Software) using your password and view the seedphrase to import into another wallet.

With the tips above, you don't need to risk your security by experimenting with encryption methods that could compromise your wallet. Of course, even if you follow the tips above, but do it on an insecure computer, compromised with internet access, you may still have chances of having your wallet compromised. So the ideal is to do this from an airgapped computer without internet access, preferably a computer just for this that you won't use for anything else.

Thanks for this information, I am new to the cryptocurrency world and this will help improve my understanding about crypto on security..

Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024
by

Arsenal winning the premier League is like wanting a Cow to pass through the hole of a needle.. it's an impossible mission if you ask me, and I believe they are actually fighting to remain in the top four to qualify for the champions League.. Although they have been playing impressive football since last season and bravo to them for that but winning the league is another level itself.. with clubs like Manchester city, Liverpool who have also been in good form this season it'll  take a big miracle for Arsenal to lift the trophy this season.. Let's also not forget that they'll play Manchester city immediately after the international break probably is the reason bukayo saka is claiming to be injured..

I disagree with you that this is an impossible mission for Arsenal if they want to compete for the Premier League title this season. Did you think it would be easy for any other club to win the Premier League title if Arsenal did not win? Arsenal has the same level of enthusiasm for winning it as they do, and they can win it if they win all of their games to displace the teams at the top of the standings because their point differentials are not that large. Even if it appears impossible, they will try to win it and not give up hope so easily.

I'll agree with you to some extent but from the type of game arsenal plays (Entertaining game) winning the big clubs to clinge the trophy will be extremely difficult..
Just as you've said that the point margin between the top 3 aren't that much that's how competitive it'll be and we've seen from previous years of how careless arsenal are.. Loosing points at the most crucial moments is what arsenal are good at.. If they utilize and bask on the defensive weaknesses of Manchester city they might get a draw but a win is a no no..

I don't see any crime in it.. As they say, my body.. my choice but I'll also fault the carriers because what were you expecting when you were having unprotected sex with the opposite sex, a ballor d'or?
Some of us might look at it from a religious/conservative view.. Abortion happen every single day all over the world even in countries where it is illegal and sorry to say I haven't actually a lady been punished for Aborting her child before probably in the Arab speaking countries

Re: El Salvador has become the first country to make #Bitcoin legal tender! 🇸🇻

I'm surprised and shocked that a country that is under development will be the first to do this.. I was expecting the U.S.A, CANADA or other developed countries to start the trend.
It's Welcome development, probably maybe some percentage of the people who are yet to own a bank account will key into this new reform in the financial sector.. it will also boost trust between the people and the government..
It will encourage more international trade flow with El Salvador and if it is well utilized will make other developing countries key into it..

Yes of course.. Bitcoin and other crypto aren't like a ponzy scheme that you just put small money and be hoping to get a big return without doing nothing which mostly ends up taking your entire life savings.. it requires patience and some level of investment to get the dividends of what you put into it and we shouldn't also forget the sole purpose for which Bitcoin was created..

Wow, this is an amazing news and a welcome development.. we hope this will extend to other countries expecially developed countries and by so doing, it will facilitate the way developing countries see Bitcoin and utilize it's potential..

It came as a shock to me considering the fact that even many developed countries are yet to fully see Bitcoin as a mode or means of transaction.. Bravo to the people of El-salvador

Good day to all women in the world, today is a women's day and I want to use this opportunity to wish every women in the world a happy and prosperous women's day.

The world is growing and so does our women, our women will keep playing their best role in building a home.. As home is the first teacher.. many years back, women were seen as instruments meant for the kitchen but reality has proven many wrong.. our women are now into the crypto world contributing their quota to the development of world economy..

On this day, I salute our women in the Bitcoin world for the role they have played.. women like Elizabeth Stark (CEO lighting labs), cathie wood who were the earliest supporters in the Bitcoin world.. we thank them for their works and support..

Re: Why are some countries being sentimental with bitcoin and the cryptos at large?
by
Hameed93
on 07/03/2024, 22:33:36 UTC
I wouldn't really call it been sentimental.. While most of us will see only the negative sides, there are also things the  government see that we the citizens do not see.. even the most advanced countries are still shaky about the cryptocurrency market..

The United States (U.S.A) is one of such countries that aren't really buying into the idea of the cryptocurrency due to the dollar value... We all know it will be a very simple task for the US government to push the crypto initiative into world politics but they are still contemplating. If the Bitcoin for example fully becomes a mode of transaction in the USA, it means the US Dollar will start to loose it's streak value it has gained over time been the most used currency in the world which is bad for the government..

Re: The uniqueness of time and its dimension

I do not consider the USDT a cryptocurrency but rather a virtual US Dollar (E-Dollar) which means it's fixed and would hardly fluctuate considering the fact it is manageable by a government or body unlike the Bitcoin..

Some people will say investing in Bitcoin when the price is low is the best time to invest but the question is, "when is it low or high".. Just yesterday we saw a surge in the price of Bitcoin and within hours is plundered relatively low and this morning it's up again.. The best thing to do is just to beat all odds and buy your Bitcoin.. According to J.p Morgan a top investment banking firm predicted that the price of Bitcoin is expected to rise to 145 thousand dollars in coming years..

Re: Let fear to lose be motivation to learn
by
Hameed93
on 05/03/2024, 19:07:21 UTC
Since I know cryptocurrency my biggest fear is to lost all my capital or large amounts in trading or investment, because of the fear in me I don't do things that I'm not sure of or things I don't know. My fear to lose have always been a motivation or a reason for me to know things concerning cryptocurrency,  I fear to start trading when I'm of myself that I know nothing to trade , fear to start investment when I know that I don't have a source of income.

My fear have been a motivation to learn,  even If I start trading I may lose but not to lose everything because of the understanding I have. My fear to lose have always made me to take the right decisions and not to make money money my first ultimate in trading and investment but understanding as my first priority.

I know some of my mates who are into  cryptocurrency that phobia to lose but even with the fear to lose they still go ahead to trade. If beginners allows their fear to motivate them to learn first their won't be drastic lose in trading.

Fear, Anxiety, lost.. All these are natural occurrences, there isn't a single person who doesn't pass through some level of pain, lost in his/her life time..

Sometimes fear is the courage you need to learn

Some of us want to win at all cost no matter what it takes and also so competitive when they need to win which is what pushes them to win while some of us fear loosing or failure and the fear of loosing is what drives them to work hard in other not to fail..
Sometimes the courage we need is fear

Few years ago, a friend of mine told me about a cryptocurrency and asked me to invest when it was still very cheap but I was doubtful and failed to investment.. Fast forward to today, the price of the cryptocurrency has skyrocketed..  that situation thought me that fear shouldn't limit me..

Considering the fact that the jade wallet is a hardware wallet, it should be greatly considered..

Sparrow wallet which is a software wallet comes advanced security settings for user protection..  it also supports all features you'll expect a modern Bitcoin wallet to have like a built in Tor, labeling of all transactions and many more..
See link for more info:- https://sparrowwallet.com/
