So I'm planning for a small farm setup to accommodate 25 S19J Pro 100T in the beginning with room to expand up to 50 units in the near future
As per Bitmain, each unit draws about 3000w at 200~240v and the power supply has two inputs.
A 20amp circuit at 240v can handle up to 3,840w at 80% load
A 30amp circuit at 240v can handle up to 5,760w at 80% load
Considering this, is it safe to use 20 amp circuits for each antminer instead of going for 30 amp ? Thanks all

Re: My first Mining rig with 6x GTX 1070i

Hi and welcome to the forum

For the motherboard I can speak of the MSI Z270A pro as I'm using it on some of my rigs and it is my favorite mobo so far

When it comes to the different brands of the same GPU chip, the difference is mainly in the quality of the build, the cooling and the manufacturer warranty

One of the most important aspect for miners is the cooling, you will find GPU's coming either with single fan, dual fans or even triple, the single fan GPU's have usually poor cooling performances and you will want to avoid them if the environment where you operate your rig doesn't have proper cooling
As far as the brands are concerned, I've seen very good reviews for EVGA cards and ASUS Rog Strix, in the other hand Gigabyte GPU's don't have good reputation due to frequent failures that miners are coming across

I personally have four different models of 1070TI: a Zotac Mini, an MSI Duke, an ASUS Rog Strix and a Gigabyte Windforce. The MSI and ASUS are doing very well with cooling as they are both triple fans, the Gigabyte comes next then the Zotac is the worst with cooling but I still manage to keep it at 60 degrees with 45% fan speed which is not bad at all
Surprisingly in terms of performance each card perform differently, at same PL and using best OC settings I get 475 sols/s with the duke, 485 sols/s with both the Zotac and Gigabyte and 500 sols/s with the Rox Strix, that is at 60% PL

Another important aspect you need to take into account when choosing your GPU is the number of power connectors, while most of the GPU's come with a single 8pin connector some of the have dual 8pin + 6pin or 8pin + 8pin

I use the Celeron G4400 on all my rigs which was the cheapest option I had and it is doing the job very well, so no need to go fancy for the CPU
4GB RAM is the minimum and if you want to be comfortable go for 8GB
Go for an SSD hard drive, at least 60GB so that you can allocate plenty of pagefile if mining ETH

There's something critical for every mining rig that you didn't mention on your post which is the power supply, you need to be very careful in properly choosing and sizing your PSU or PSU's depending on whether you'll go for a single or dual PSU's, let us know how many GPU's you plan to operate on your rig and we'll be able to provide more advise in this sense

Happy mining

I just checked my local Kijiji and I see many overpriced 1070's and 1070 Ti's , some decently priced 570 and 580 8GB and a dude who just listed three mining rigs for sale for a very attractive price

i have 2 rx 570 4gb red devils

when mining ethash i get around 27m\s on both of them

1200-1950

but mining cryptonight

1 of then ash at 750h\s and the other one 450\h\s

i tried to play a little bit the cc and mc but 450 is the best i could get

anyone could tell me what's wrong ??

and can i pull more than this from this card Huh

my power consumption around 125w which's consider as high

my PSU: cx 750 w corsair

thank you in advance

27 mh/s is a bit to the low side for the 570, what driver are you using ?

Hello everyone,

Got started today with HiveOS and everything seems to be configured correctly, I started mining but after a while my worker was still showing up offline in the pool

Connected to the HiveOS console and when I checked the miner screen I was surprised to see it mining toward a nicehash address, stopped it reapplied the wallet and started the miner from CLI but it was still mining towards the incorrect address, FYI I'm using bminer

Any idea how to get the miner to point to the pool information I entered on my wallet ?

Thanks

Get the core clock down to 1150MHz (no need for 1270) and the core voltage to 900mV .... these are the "normal" settings to start with.

 <--- from a RX 580

Edit: ... and btw ... get a newer version of the Polaris editor ... just google for version 1.6.7  Wink

Thanks, will give it a try

Hi ....

why not use Wattman from AMD as a start, it' s included in the driver and its ok for undervolting.

Simply get in there and set the speed and voltage you want and ya are kinda good to go. No need to touch PL on AMD cards when you want to undervolt ... Normally you can get the Polaris down between 70 and 80W (Chip only) ... just depends on what you want. Good setup to start with is 1150 MHz and 900mw for the core, rest is some tweaking Smiley. Get GPU-Z and check there what is drawn by the GPU ... or HW Info ... When the core is set, start to undervolt the GDDR5 ... step by step Smiley

Cheers

So I tried lowering each voltage value by -50mv it didn't do anything on the power draw, tried -100mv for each value and when I applied the setting it kind of reset the GPU as the application crashed and the display flickered for a moment

Helios45:  if you cant make it work with overdrive tool, then do it the fixed way.
bios mod, hardcode some lower core voltage on the  core speed 950 -1200 lines. say....start with 950mv then with your OC tool in the OS try core speed set to 1150 and see how it goes.

I see some weird values for Core voltage in Polaris for frequencies higher than 300mhz, how am I supposed to lower these ?

OK guys, so I've got some updates here

I tried lowering the core clock but from what I could see on the wall meter it was almost not making any difference, I did go as low as 800mhz and the difference in power consumption was not more than 5 watts

I'm still unable to unlock the voltage control for my AMD card on Afterburner while voltage control is available when I select my 1070 that it present on the same rig, tried searching for the integrated gpu on the device manager but I couldn't see it

Also tried using OverDtivenTool to lower the voltage but I was having very low hashrates whatever I was doing, the tool is a bit confusing and I didn't find many resources online to walk me through properly using it

In the meantime I added a second similar RX 570 MSI Armor GPU in the rig, flashed it with the same mod BIOS however I'm getting mixed results, when running at 100% PL I get full hashrate between 30 and 30.7 mh/s for both GPU's, if I drop PL to 90% I get 30mh/s on one card and 27mh/s on the other card, dropping to -20% PL will give me even worse hashrates for both

100% PL with 800 core and 2200 memory are making my GPU's to draw about 140w to 150w each at the wall which way too much

Any other recommendations guys on how to tweak these cards to lower my power consumption while keeping a decent hashrate as lowering the core clock isn't really helping, should I use a different mod bios to begin with ?

Thanks

Good stuff guys, thanks for the recommendations

I will try this out and will let you know how it goes

And buy the way I just realized my mistake with the highest hashrate I mentionned, it is actually 30.7 and not 31.7

Undervolting RX 570 8GB
by
Helios45
on 11/02/2018, 17:25:59 UTC
Hi everyone,

Being an nvidia miner, yesterday I spent some time installing my first Radeon GPU and trying to optimize it to get the best results and performance

The GPU is an MSI Armor OC 570 8GB, I'm using Windows 10 with latest creator update 1709 and using the latest adrenalin 18.2.1 drivers and a mod bios

Below are the steps I went through with the different results:

1- Stock settings: 17.9 Mh/s
2- With compute mode enabled: 24 mh/s
3- with mod bios: 3̶1̶.̶7̶ 30.7 mh/s
4- Using afterburner: OC memory from 2100 to 2150 and setting -20% power limit :3̶1̶.̶7̶ 30.7 mh/s , power draw as per GPU-Z is 110w

That's the best efficiency I could achieve, tried further lowering the power limit but it resulted in hashrate drop

I did search in the forum for undervolting the gpu but I'm still confused with it, my afterburner has the core voltage grayed out even though I enabled it in the options, watttool doesn't seem to support the RX500 series and not sure if it is possible to undervolt using Polaris

Any ideas how to lower the power consumption below 110w while maintaining the same hashrate ?

Thanks

Re: RX 580 4Gb vs 8Gb
by

Hello everybody. I have a Sapphire RX 580 4Gb, with modded BIOS (including memory timings) and overclocked until instability (1050/2020). It run under windows 10 with mining drivers, and Im having arround 25,5 Mh/s. I tried a lot of things trying to reach the "oficial" 30Mh/s that these cards are supposed to make. I even change my card for another one, but the hashes remain the same. After reading the experiences of several people with my same card and same hashes, i realized that 25 Mh/s are pretty OK for this card.

Now im thinking about building a dedicated mining rig with six Sapphire RX 580, and i wonder if the 8Gb version will reach more easily these "oficial" 30Mh/s

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Higher hashrate depends on the memory manufacturer. Samsung best of all, Hynix/Elpida worse, Micron very bad. A good memory can keep the frequency of 2100+ which has a positive impact on hashrate.
When choosing a card should be based on the memory manufacturer.
This is not a guarantee of high hashrate, but as close as possible to him.

I'm hitting 31mh/s on a Rx570 with Micron memory

I guess this krnlx ccminer no longer being updated.
But still works for xevan
2 1080ti and 1 1070ti getting about 14.2 mh
However I don't see what each individual card is doing
Does my hash rate sound good?

I get 11mh with three 1070 TI's running at 60% TDP

Seems like I'm getting low hashrate then

I'm at 80% tdp. +135+700

Try higher core, I run mine at +200 and less memory

I got 3 rigs with PRIME Z270-A mobos, and they all have 9 GPUs (2 are 9x1080Ti and 1 is 9x1070).

I have run all 3 rigs on both Windows (latest fall edition) as well as nvOC.  No problems with either.

This is how I have my BIOS configured on these rigs:

Code:
Advanced/Platform Misc Configuration - Everything Disabled
Advanced/System Agent (SA) Configuration/Graphics Configuration/Leave alone
Advanced/System Agent (SA) Configuration/Graphics Configuration/DMI/OPI Configuration / DMI Max Link Speed = Gen2
Advanced/System Agent (SA) Configuration/Graphics Configuration/PEG Port Configuration / Gen2, Gen2, Auto
Advanced/PCH Configuration/PCI Express Configuration/Gen2
Advanced/PCH-FW Configuration/PTT Configuration/PTP aware OS = Not PTP Aware
Advanced/Onboard Devices Configuration/HD Audio Controller = Disabled
Advanced/Onboard Devices Configuration/M.2_1 Configuration = Auto
Advanced/Onboard Devices Configuration/M.2_2 Bandwidth Configuration = X2
Advanced/Onboard Devices Configuration/RGB LED Lighting/In Sleep, hibernate and soft off states = Off
Advanced/APM Configuration/Restore AC Power Loss = Power On
Boot/Above 4G Decoding = Enabled
Boot/Secure Boot/Key Management/Clear Secure Boot Keys = YES

Hope that helps.

Thanks for this, I will test the settings whenever I have a chance

Just curious, did you have any issues getting the mobo to run fine with a riser in the main x16 slot?  I have the Z270-P and I can't get it to run with a card attached to the PCIEX16_1 with a riser.  I tried it with just 3 cards and it would only detect 2 cards, however I'm running 5 cards just fine by skipping that slot.

All three PCIEX16 are working ok with risers, never had any issue with it, though I previously had to RMA a similar mobo as I had a PCIEX1 slot not working at all
