Are you still here? It's over! Shoo! Go home!
[/Save Ferris]

I might be persuaded to update the android wallet with an updated seed node list if there is still one working.  But the blockchain has been through so much neglect, spam and other forms of torture for the last 2.5 years that saving it will be a titanic effort.  Are there pools left to mine it and would they even upgrade to a fixed up core?

When judging people and events, I always refer to Heinlein's razor (reprised); "Never attribute to malice that which is mere incompetence.".

Is Mark as competent as we or he himself would like?  He clearly still has a lot to learn about cryptos and the people involved and how to run a good business in this space.  We all do!  Otherwise we'd be in the Panama Papers, right?

Look, I don't like this guy Mark any more than you do, but I believe he has the clout to stop the self-delusions of what would make him happy (being "a great fucking success" in his own words, or a multimillionaire through porn-style ads for example) and focus on his real assets (having some competent friends and rewarding them for helping him succeed). That's my definition of competence as a business owner, anyways.

You can give a man a fish, teach a man to fish, or laugh at him for getting wet.
What about you guys, are you incompetent, or do you simply enjoy kicking a guy while he's down?

Was there even a single useful post in this thread?  Was a single satoshi lost or gained because of it?
Please do the right thing and close this sad, self-gratifying thread as soon as possible.

Banx shares were delisted from coinmarketcap for being a scam. id suggest you do your own due diligence before coming in here and being a scammer apologist

No they were not.  They were delisted from the coins page because they were shares.  Nothing to do with ByronP anyways.  He didn't create Banxshares, isn't the owner of Banx, etc. etc.
Most people on Banx.io don't seem to want this coin swap to happen, and here you are calling the person who can help you prevent it a scammer because you can't get your names right.

You're weird.

Banx is a horrible brand, I can't believe EXCL is associated with it or ByronP, an obvious scammer.

You are going to reduce the total amount of coins by 1/10, or just the coins that people hold on bittrex? that's the biggest load of bullshit I have ever heard. Deflating the coin against the will of your holders. It basically changes the whole coin and makes any future promises completely worthless. Imagine if bitcoin devs said "we're reducing the total number of coins." no one would  let it happen.

We, as the community, should not let this fork happen. it is in the interest of the developers and ByronP, a known scammer.

You are misinformed.  ByronP doesn't own the Banx brand, he just runs a small but solid exchange under the Banx name.

As far as I know ByronP didn't even know about these changes to the coin till someone pointed him to this thread, and I don't see how he would really benefit from these changes.  He's simply offering to help with the changes so his customers don't get stuck with a bad hardfork.

I've never heard of ByronP ever scamming anyone, you should offer some proofs or facts before you call anyone an "obvious" and "known" scammer.

UPDATES ON EXCL

Why fork/update of EXCL delayed?
There is 2 reasons and both are external.
Cryptsy has issues, and its our #1 exchange. Yet we cannot wait for them to fix their issues. Swap was supossed to be done on Cryptsy and Bittrex (we will be doing 1:10 swap) but seems Cryptsy may take too long to get on their feet.
Banx.io has issues, the newset post about this is here: http://coinjournal.net/banx-three-months-later-no-bitshares-integration-less-than-1-sold-network-is-down/

So while we wanted to do best for EXCL the 3rd parties got into trouble and slowed us down.

That is why we will fork (or rather restart blockchain) now. We will need 3rd party on this and it will be Bittrex.
We cannot do it with hands and coding a system would take too much money.

So what will happen is:
- All users should move EXCL to bittrex by the date we will soon release [not more than 2 weeks].
- All nonmoved coins from current blockchain will go to devs [since me as a dev wont be moving coins to exchanges at all]
- All coins will go to 1:10. So 10 EXCL will be 1 EXCL after fork.
- We will have Masternodes, and they will require 5k or 10k EXCL [we are still counting]
- Coin will be in full PoS mode, its planned for MN to be 0.5 EXCL and PoS to be 0.5 too.
- We will enter Cryptopia for goods sales as our external market has to wait.
- More planned but im not saying until deal is DONE, not just somebody stacks his name. Seems this days brands can fail no mattr what.

HOOoooold on!  Let's take a deep breath and review what's going on here:
1) the original dev created a new coin sold exclusively on Banx.io (Atomic-Trade at the time) and got money from users there.  Isn't that why it was called "Exclusive" coin in the first place?
2) There are NO issues with Banx.io affecting excl trading apart from low volume. Low volume likely due to the coin dev dumping his coins on other exchanges instead of working to develop business on Banx.
3) Now there's a new "plan" where not only it's moving to full PoS (so big holders - like kingscrown) get a extra boost on their value but the original investors (from Banx) don't even own anything anymore?

Were you even going to warn Banx/A-T users that you're taking it all away?

Fixing the coin is a good idea, but why set yourself up as a kingscrown-level scammer by changing the rules of the game?

It can be difficult to find peers on such a small network.  Adding nodes 70.35.205.108 and 70.35.205.184 should help.  You may have to reset your block file and start over if you can't sync.

Why can't the block explorer sync?

Probably doesn't have a good peer, like I said.  Maybe the seednodes are down or don't get enough connections to do their jobs.

Do you remember in this topic, when some guy showed up and had a whole story about the 2 PoW mining phases of Banx, and how miners got a lot of BanxShares, and how the coins at C-Cex only got forked because miners were exploiting the network?  Just a bunch of imaginary lies, but he was pretending it was a real series of events?

Hold on, I was fine with you questioning BANX and M. Lyford, he's a big boy and can defend himself.  But now you're calling ME a liar and a sockpuppet, just because you seem unable to order events in their proper time frame. So here's a simple, incontrovertible fact you can't argue with, the code for the original BANX wallet I got from the github:

Code:
int64 static GetBlockValue(int nHeight, int64 nFees)
{
    int64 nSubsidy = 2 * COIN;

    if(nHeight==5) return 5400000 * COIN;

    if(nHeight==43002) return 551184 * COIN;

    if(nHeight>7000) nSubsidy = 1 * COIN;

    if(nHeight>42700) return nFees;

    return nSubsidy + nFees;
}

You can see exactly how the mining happened, and why it was easy for miners to 51% the small network subtly and keep creating new shares for a while.  You can compare that with the code for the new PoS wallet if you want, but since you haven't bothered to investigate and just called me a liar, I don't expect you to bother trying to fit these facts in your version of reality.

According to you, I'd be a victim of a huge scam with BANX.  Makes me wonder why you'd attack me without checking any of the things I tried to help you with and lose some of your credibility in the process.

...
The first day of the ANN thread, Mark says there is no mining at all for BanxShares.  When were the 2 phases of PoW?  Before the coin was announced?
...
How did they end up with almost exactly 6 million, AFTER that?  Another dev might shed some light:
...
Besides, he later says that the coin is 100% premined:
...

There was a premine to 6 million, and then a maintenance phase using PoW where the block reward was something like 1 BANX+fees, which is why the total # of coins rapidly went over 6M. The wallet was changed to reward 0 BANX+fees but it was too late to fix it (and breaks the chain when fees=0). So 3 "phases", 4 if you count the newer PoS coin. At least that's what I remember from reading the code back then.

The newer PoS coin mitigates this "overmining" with a tiny stake reward, usually by the exchange's wallet to maintain the network.
At the moment it's impossible to know the actual volume since the trades are off-chain on Banx.io afaik.

On the plus side BANXshares could have been just a database of shares on Banx.io, but it was implemented as a coin instead, which is much more transparent, but clearly not perfect.

my wallet stuck on 12 days ago. deleted chain and tried to redownload chain using installer. everytime i get same error that hash doesnt match any idea why

I just synced the last 3 weeks without any problems.  Do you know the block # you're stuck on? (Is it 0 or 1?)   Are you sure you have Worldcoin peers in your nodes?  If you only reach bad alts they'll give you bad hashes.

BANXshares has a pretty bumpy history, I just want to clear up some of the confusion. [obDisclosure: I own BANXshares, but I don't believe anyone is the crypto-messiah. I don't have insider info. I'm also not a lawyer. Smiley ]

1. One source of confusion is the old BANX/Fork/New BANX issue.  The original BANX was a PoW coin that was released in 2 phases; as far as I can remember the mining reward was much smaller in v2, there was no incentive for miners to update so a group didn't.  Someone at Banx must have noticed the overmining and instead of a rollback, created a new chain and transferred value to it. I guess a couple of exchanges didn't want to switch (since they were stuck with the 'overmined' shares).  At least that's what some of the nastier messages on the official thread are about.

So I don't believe the fork itself was done maliciously, but might have been caused by the plans changing on the wallet dev after the release.  In any case, all the posts about mining and exchanges other than banx.io are relating to that older blockchain and mostly irrelevant to BANXShares and Banx.io at this point.

2. Banx purchased Atomic-Trade (renaming it Banx.io) and released the new BANXShares (a PoS coin) at about the same time.  I have no idea what the deal was between them (and they don't have to tell us if banxshares aren't actually shares of the company but shares of the profits, as is claimed) but I'm pretty sure Byron (Banx.io) is now just a cog in the Banx machine, and that the profits from trading on Banx.io are supposed to be only one part of the dividends from banxshares.  I imagine some other parts are profitable too, but right now dividends are paid once a month at a rate set by Mark.

So please ignore the old block explorer; the only BANX explorer I know of at the moment is http://block.banxcapital.com/chains ... Unfortunately it doesn't have a richlist but it's what I believe CMC is actually using (+ trade price on banx.io) to establish market cap or volume or whatever. So the numbers aren't 100% pulled out of Banx.io's hat.  And anyone could create a new explorer with the wallet from the git...

I have withdrawn and deposited BANXShares from banx.io and it works fine, so CMC is not to blame; it's not their fault there's no other exchange that lists a trade price. And BANX isn't the only coin that doesn't get listed a lot.

So anyway, just trying to put some facts straight, not trying to change opinions. Smiley

wallet from main page installs and syncs but coins never arrive to it (they do to online wallets so its not the pool)
ok to looks like problem is with wallet.
When I start it after installing there is sync progress bar, problem is progress bar will say its synced but its not. 2 days of syncing and im stuck on may now and its STUCK on block 1905342. two days!!! is there anything i can do to unstuck it??

Tried to delete everything and leave wallet.dat AS IT WORKS WITH OTHER WALLETS
and guess what WALLET CORRUPT CANT SALVAGE
WHAT A PIECE OF .......!£&$("£&$("£&$(

Sorry, actually this doesn't work with other wallets. You have just been lucky.

As far as I can understand it, you accidentally or intentionally moved/changed your data folder while something was being written to it. Maybe your hard disk has a bad sector, or you used WorldcoinBC and it tried swapping your partial blockchain with its own complete file while still running.  You MUST NOT play around the data folder, the wallet.dat and such files manually, almost all the altcoin wallets use a data store that has dependencies between the files and becomes corrupted easily.  The only CORRECT way to tweak that stuff is to perform a backup, or export, directly from the wallet.

You could try the "-salvagewallet" command, which is present IN ALL WALLETS, just for this situation. It is not guaranteed to work.  Good luck.

Banxshares will now live on the BitShares blockchain and it can cease all inflation due to mining.  Profitable business decision.

Honestly, I don't think the less than 0.001% yearly inflation is the reason why BANXshares is moving to Bitshares. A colored coin/smart tokens system is simply a better match for what are really tokens, not coins.

Running pkg-config gives me the right version number so I'm assuming it's installed correctly.  Any suggestions? Thanks. Smiley

It is hard to think of what might be the case. I can tell you that I had pkg-config installed and giving me the right version as well and it was still not working. I then removed it and installed JUST pkg-config-lite in msys, reran autogen.sh, closed all open cmd/msys windows, and then it worked. Also make sure the mingw, and toolchain bin paths are BOTH in your PATH variable(for me, C:\MinGW\bin and C:\MinGW\mingw32\bin), although im sure if you got this far already they likely are.

I removed from mingw32, copied manually lite to msys, and configure worked (after a couple of tries, threading problem maybe). Thanks for the hint, it's compiling! Smiley

Re: Certified Bitcoin Professional
by
Hullabaloo
on 18/02/2015, 18:22:09 UTC
If you want to LEARN all about bitcoin, your money is better spent getting something like Andreas Antonopoulos' book. But if you want to help build up some credibility FOR (not IN) the "crypto industry", then CBP isn't a bad place to start.

"Professional certifications" certainly have a value for HR departments and consultants. 99% of certs are a scam, because the people who certify you are the same people who make/sell the products you're certified on.  Which could also be true in this case, except that the Bitcoin tools and docs are free. So why buy a certification?

The people offering this certification might be too early - but it has to start somewhere.  The CPB level is like a secretary's (sorry, executive assistant's!) proof of basic competence like ability to type X wpm, understand filing systems and have good phone manners.  If a business has to or plans to handle bitcoins in the future, then their HR dept. will be happy to find a candidate that at least knows not to put the private keys unencrypted on a removable thumb drive.

But it's "too early" because no business is asking for it yet. It's bootstrapping - people need to learn about Bitcoins to want them, and who better to spread the word than a CBP?  When HR personnel start seeing "CBP" on resumes, they'll get used to and start to demand it - even if they don't know what is it. (Intelligence isn't a requirement for HR work afaik Smiley )
The CBP certification is superficial because the technology is brand new.  You don't really need to hire someone to set up a wallet hierarchy for your departments and be a "key master"/wallet admin because the wallets aren't that complicated yet. But someday they will be and then CBP will certainly be "worth" something.
On the other hand, how many current "altcoin devs" would fail to achieve even basic CBP level?  I'd love to know! Smiley

I think it might end up like the "Scrum Master" cert. About 100$ CAD (when I did it), a couple hours of reading, easy exam, but being able to apply to "Scrum master"/Agile jobs is worth the cost, even if Scrum is a scam.  Laugh at the people spending money all you want, there will *always* be cert. programs when $ is involved.  This one is probably not worth it for anyone savvy enough to be on bitcointalk, but it only takes one big HR department to start demanding "something" for a certification program to pop up. All the better if it's run by a non-profit, right?

C4/CBP does have some failings, in my opinion. First off there is no publicly visible count of how many people have achieved CBP, or even applied.  That doesn't encourage businesses/HR to demand it or vet its worth. There's no official training material or "trial" test.  And as far as I know they don't offer to link to a live logo/visible certificate you could put on linkedin or whatever.

So personally I'm going to use my money to buy another 0.5 BTC Smiley But as a professional software dev, I am definitely looking forward to the CBX cert!
