The new chain may have the value, but the old chain has the hashing power (including my own 6970^^) ;-)
Block count: 20032 vs. 20028
Some people seem not to understand the difference between a network based chain split and a forced software chain split ;-)
i am well aware that "old" ixcoin is even more worthless than "new" ixcoin since all of the exchanges have switched and the sole purpose of mining it is to spite Thomas and the new block chain.
I figure mining the old blockchain is a fairly effective way to prove that i would do something utterly useless rather than supporting Thomas' Ixcoin.
What's the best way to minimize noise on a current mining rig? I've been considering a few options:
-Lower the fan speed of the graphics card -Put a water block on the graphics card -Get a fanless graphics card (one that only has a heatsink) -Use a special cooler (such as Accelero) -Use sound dampening strips (such as Dynamat)
-Put it into another room
i'm using my 6970 with a full cover water block and an external radiator with 9*120mm silent fans and a lot of dampening mats to kill any high-pitched noise from water pump, solenoids and hdds. it was originally used as a gaming rig, and for that purpose i think it was acceptable to use expensive watercooling to build a rig i could sleep next to. When i've started using for mining, i've put an additional 120mm fan next to the graphics card to prevent any parts that aren't cooled by the waterblock from overheating.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] SolidCoin - new and improved block chain. Secure from pools
I will add more graphs (e.g. "amount of coins mined" and if I can get to the data "exchange rate" and maybe "coin age"), but since RealSolid said it would probably qualify for the "Assorted Graphs" bounty, I'm publishing now (was beaten before by 20 minutes on the "First Block Explorer" bounty).
If it does qualify for the bounty, it can be payed to the donation address given on the page.
I think an optional logarithmic scale would be very useful, especially for the exchange rate, since it has increased in the past few days by more than 2000%
(guess who sold half of his solidcoins yesterday...)
that would amount to ~1/9 of all solidcoins currently in existence having been destroyed by a software bug
the following "calculation" is valid only if these 70k were mined yesterday (and not directly after the announcement when the difficulty was extremely low):
i got ~72 SC in the last 24h with my 400MH/s, so he must have something like a 400GH/s rig.
Funny but I get your point. Such a strategy is only good as long as the low is temporary; as long as you can eventually sell off the cheaper ixcoins you purchased. However, I see no problem in trading ixcoins for short term profit, as I don't see them dropping immediately to zero-- they are already obscenely low and have stayed at the same level for almost a week. I don't see how the current value could be anything but a low, even if the high would be only 0.002. Buying at 0.0009 is a great strategy; even if it only goes up to 0.002, you've doubled your investment. Emphasis on "short term", of course.
It seems very difficult *to me* to foresee if the current exchange rate is a temporary low or may drop even further, especially in the case of the ixcoin i've read a lot of comments that the ixcoin is virtually dead since it doesn't have any differences/improvements over the bitcoin and therefore has no uses other than speculation.
i also had the idea for the rather stupid HP TouchPad example from the "dead" part, but now i realised your calculations are purely about volatility, i thought the ixcoin would simply have gone down by that. (and i thought it was still doing rather well....)

Re: ixcoin trading more profitable right now than bitcoins or namecoins
What are the differences between bitcoin and solidcoin? Is one better than the other?
Basically, all of the secondary blockchain defense mechanisms are removed in favor of convenience.
Could you please elaborate that point a bit? I thought that there were no changes this dramatic made to the bitcoin protocol. or does it have to do with the shorter block generation time?
Thanks!
Alex
p.s. Also, since this is the Newbie-Forum, i'm not sure what "secondary blockchain defense mechanisms" are

Hi i'm Alex, i'm from austria and i've been mining for bitcoins for about two months now (and for solidcoins lately^^) with my 6970, which has watercooling so so i don't go deaf when sitting right next to it ;-)
Sorry, but this is not the SolidCoin forum. I'm sure that whatever you want to post can be done there, assuming it exists. If it doesn't, that's not our problem.
There it is:
Bitcoin Forum > Other > Alternate cryptocurrencies > [ANNOUNCE] SolidCoin - new and improved block chain. Secure from pools
It is actually just a thread here, but the "forum" link of the "official" website http://solidcoin.info/ redirects here.
p.s: and yes, i want to get out of here as well ;-)
