US Bitcoin Market, Buttercoin, is live
by

on 20/12/2014, 00:57:20 UTC

Hi, I'm Cedric, a cofounder at Buttercoin, a US Bitcoin Marketplace connecting buyers and sellers directly, so you can skip the middle man (like bitcoin wallets) and trade directly with the community.

We've launched publicly, you can check us out at Buttercoin.com

We started this project 18 months ago not realizing how difficult it would be to integrate with the US financial system, but the work has been worth it, we hope you'll agree Smiley

Because Buttercoin has US banking and payment processing you can buy or sell Bitcoin much faster than with international Bitcoin exchanges, up to 10x faster in some cases.

Here are a few other things you might like about Buttercoin:
  • 0% trading fees in December
  • Account verification in under 24 hours
  • Bitcoin sellers get payment in 1 business day
  • Funding via ACH clears in 2-3 business days
  • Funding via Bank Wire clears same day / next day
  • Excellent customer support, via email & phone; during Business hours requests are answered within 1 hour
  • All users get direct access to our order book and liquidity
  • OTC trading for large buyers and sellers (up to $10MM / day)

Give us your questions, gripes, comments, and tell us what you love about Buttercoin, we're listening.

*We currently support US customers and are working to expand the countries we serve.

Buttercoin is currently available as a mobile web app, we're working on native iOS & Android apps.  The mobile web is solid for trading and the design gets improved daily based on user feedback.

Buttercoin looks best on a computer and gives you plenty of options for market and limit orders on buying and selling.

Buttercoin
works well on tablets.  It's beautiful on iPads and we're making the android experience better every day.

*I previously posted this here, but thought this might be a better place talk about our project.

Re: What if Govt buys all bitcoins?

If large Govts bought all available bitcoins in an effort to wreck BTC it would be a drop in the bucket for them. ( and the Fed would only need to print the $ to do it) They would also be in a position to manipulate the market.

Furthermore if they embarked on mining using their massive resources it would probably push ALL small miners out of business.

Therefore BTC can not be regarded as a serious threat to their currency monopoly, merely an interesting diversion for the powers that rule the markets

Have you seen Paul Graham's post hypothesizing bitcoin may have been developed by a government? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5547423

$10k

I like your ambition... and/or sense of humor  Wink

An auction could be another way to approach the problem of selling your newly acquired domain.  This can help you discover the market price for these domains & help you retain credibility on this forum.

We need a coin with better branding to compete with Bitcoin, things like buttercoin will fail to pickup just weird. Litecoin is the only one with a decent name and brand.

Buttercoin is a marketplace for crypto currencies whereas bitcoin and litecoin are crypto currencies themselves.

I'd like to get started on mining this new buttercoin. I've started building a buttercoin miner last night. I runs on 2 industrial size butter knifes. Going to making a 6 knife version next.

Buttercoin isn't a decentralized exchange, so it doesn't compare to them very well. The goal is to provide an open source trading engine (that one day might lead to a decentralized approach) and a stable, fast, secure, and legal reference trading platform built on top of it that can handle the kind of market volume that current exchanges can't.

The name was chosen since the domain was already owned by the creator. It's not set in stone.

You just don't get it. It's not about centralized / decentralized bs...it's about liquidity.

BAM!  Yes, you've hit the nail on the head.  It is all about liquidity. If we want to see any exchange succeed it'll need to address liquidity on three fronts; performance, bitcoin, and dollars.

On the performance end of things, to allow real time trading, we need something that can handel 1000x more trades per second than either Gox or anything else (other than buttercoin) can handle.

If a new exchange is going to de-throne Gox, it'll need bitcoins, lots of bitcoins. To do this the new exchange will have to provide solid incentives to potential sellers; top-notch security, anti-fraud measures, low (or no) fees, unconstrained capital withdrawals, fast payment, intuitive interface, and more.

The exchange will also need dollars, but if the bitcoins are there, the dollars will likely follow.
