Re: Bank of England warns against Cryptos

I see why is the market has no improvement. This types of discouragement is really destroying the reputation of cryptocurrency. I thought cryptocurrency will be the biggest thing in the future. But alas if the media and government keep discouraging then cryptocurrency will eventually fade away.

The joy of being part of the media. The pros is that crypto is talked about a lot more on the news, and CNBC has a BTC ticker now. The cons is that the negative publicity hurts the community and tends to discourage people into entering the space.

Re: Public WiFi and Coin Wallets

People enter social security, bank passwords, crypto wallets, etc on public wifi. In regards to crypto, you would think that if you are smart enough to know about crypto and how it works, you would always have a VPN on while on a public wifi. I have noticed that some public wifi will boot you off if you try to connect to them by VPN. Personally, if they kick you off you probably shouldn't be on it.

Lots of reading, lots of learning, and learning from my mistakes. Shoot, I joined BCT in 2016, but I don't think I made my first until 2017. I was a reading stalker Tongue

I never had a problem with Coinbase/GDAX, but I use them like how a person should... Transfer money, buy crypto, transfer out. Three simple steps to follow.

Could be the first step in Amazon integration with crypto as a payment source. That would definitely cause a nice price increase. Time to get some popcorn and watch what happens next.

Re: Best Arbitrage bot

What is an arbitrage bot?

The most basic definition is a program that looks at multiple exchanges to buy a coin/token for less, and sell it for a higher price at another exchange. The program should factor in fees and sending cost too.

I personally like Zilla (https://zla.io/en). They have a nice app for Android and IOS. Additionally, you can invest directly from the app.

Both replies are correct. If the Airdrop/purchased crypto is an ERC 20 contract (Ethereum base) then most likely a smart contract will be used to manage the tokens easier. If it's an alt coin that is not based on the Ethereum blockchain then a script or sending coins manually will most likely be done.

Cryptocurreny can and does solve many real life problems we have thanks to the blockchain. And the market is still young and growing.

Can't go wrong with a Ledger Nano if you are serious about ETH storage/large amount. For a small amount, MyEtherWallet works just fine.

I would say, signature campaigns can bring some profit.
But if you do have a blog and have a talant to write good posts
Content creation is the best way

I would agree with Avalonist. By far the easiest is a signature campaign since it's a set and forget. You would only have to do your normal Bitcointalk activity and get paid. Developing content would pay the most, but normally you would have to be one of the first to get in on it, and it would talk more time to develop the content.

BTC is too mainstream to ever go down to that amount. Best strategy is to use dollar cost average when purchasing coins. Buy once a week, month, etc... and don't worry about the price. Looking at the value daily will make you go crazy.

Personally I do not use their service as seen some warning reviews from customer/users in their app's review section means I have to choose alternative one, most of the cases these online based wallet is not the final solution, better to have hardware wallet, hope you will back your coins

Additionally, you connect to there server. I remember when the BCH fork was about to happen and they shut down the Bitcoin wallet access as a safety precaution, which I understand, but I don't like the fact that they locked me out of my own funds. It wasn't much since I store my crypto elsewhere, but it was an eye opening experience as a Jaxx user.

Re: How to Spot Scam Airdrops

Number 1 thing i never do a KYC.  Giving out your personal information to a stranger on the internet that could sell it to criminals on the black market is very dangerous.

I personally have never seen an airdrop requiring a KYC. Normally a KYC would be for an ICO to legally sell a token within the US, but ICO's are another story and for another thread.

Re: BTC as IRA
by
Intensity
on 12/06/2018, 15:15:47 UTC
Yes, but you'll need to find an IRA custodian that will accept. That said, forget about the big players like Fidelity. Search online, there's one called BitIRA (but be mindful of fees). Also, keep in mind you will need to open what is called a "self-directed" account. There's more info for you in the following article: https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/05/people-are-putting-bitcoin-into-their-retirement-savings-.html

Hope this helps!

You have an option with Fidelity to trade the stock GBTC (Bitcoin Investment Trust). Over Christmas, I was able to make a nice profit into my ROTH IRA holding GBTC over the four day holiday weekend. That being said, the stock trades at a high premium and a long term hold might not be the best option. One thing to note, earlier this year the stock split making it a lot more affordable for the average person to buy. Prior to the split, the stock was trading at $1600-$2200 a share.

4. GDAX - When you buy Bitcoin there will be a 0.25% fee and a 0.30% fee for when you buy Ether or Litecoin. Deposits and Withdrawals are Free.

If a limit buy/sell order is used, GDAX does not charge a fee. Additionally, the TX fee is handled by GDAX making it totally free. The downside is the week delay if you are doing a ETF from a bank, but it's the cheapest way.

Diversification and dollar cost average. Buying a fixed dollar amount on a regular schedule. Once a week, every two weeks, etc... And don't look at the price every day, a person can go crazy doing this.

Re: What's the best way for a U.S. customer to buy Ripple?
by
Intensity
on 14/01/2018, 16:14:07 UTC
I see that it is available on BitStamp -- do they have high fees to transfer BTC or ETH over to them?  (Does this take a long time?)

I also see that it is available on Cracken.  Is this easier to use for a U.S. customer?

Are any of the other exchanges as easy and safe and speedy as these two?

What's the best/easiest way?

To avoid the higher transfer fee, you might want to look at purchasing Litecoin first then sending and converting it to BTC (or ETH if supported for trading) on the exchange. The fee should be a lot less than sending Bitcoin directly to an exchange.
