lost wallet passphrase
by

on 08/12/2024, 13:50:38 UTC
I found my old armory wallet which had some BTC's in my hard disk. I did install Ubuntu 18.04 to use Armory 0.96.5 and then i imported my wallet, but it was encrypted and i forgot the password so it didnt open.

I remember a part of the password, also it was not very long so i believe i can find the password by brute force using hashcat. But i do not know how can i get the password hash of the wallet, seems like JTR doesnt have a tool for armory. Can anyone help me about this?

Thanks.

Re: Sold all my ETH and bought ADA

I think you have decided so fast about selling all your ETH and bought ADA. You should have wait a little longer. ETH might be low today but it will definitely back or even higher in the future. Better not to sell everything even if you just lost your confidence to it. There might be a time that you will regret some decisions you made easily.

I will never use bitcoin to buy anything illegal. Whatever you decided to do, it will reflect on you in the future. It is not impossible not to trace illegal transactions even for Bitcoins but still, it can be done.

Re: what is the main reason for india to ban cryptocurrency
by
InterFinex_JB
on 10/07/2018, 08:47:26 UTC
I don't think India cryptocurrency is illegal in India.  In a recent article from Forbes, Ajeet Khurana, head of the Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Committee (BACC) of Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) said the cryptocurrency was even mentioned in India's national budget. Here's what he said, “I recognized that it was a step in the right direction. Having the finance minister say that cryptocurrency isn’t legal tender is perfectly logical –-- every nation barring Japan has taken this stance. It doesn’t mean crypto trading is illegal, but comes with its own risks like any other investment asset in the market.”

Read the full article here:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/sindhujabalaji/2018/02/06/india-is-not-banning-cryptocurrency-heres-what-it-is-doing-instead/#1273b9587c6f

Hope this clears out the misconception. Smiley

Re: What are you still afraid of?
by
InterFinex_JB
on 09/07/2018, 14:40:31 UTC
Being afraid is normal especially if you have invested too much money and time in it. BUT, you have to take some risk to succeed. And if you let your worries consume you, it will affect on how you think and that would stop you to gain in the future. What's best is invest what you are only willing to lose.

There are many ways to store your btc, and the safest way is to store them offline or through cold storage. Keeping Bitcoins offline substantially reduces the threat from hackers. This article might help you decide which step is best:

IF A NEW CRYPTO TRADING/EXCHANGE PLATFORM WILL RISE, YOU WOULD WANT IT TO HAVE...

What features? weaknesses of current existing platforms that you don't want?

What will make it the best and outstanding exchange platform?

Re: What if Government bans Bitcoins?
by
InterFinex_JB
on 06/07/2018, 00:35:10 UTC
Looking at the decentralized nature of crypto-currencies,Wonder if govt bans Bitcoins in future??Is it possible let's say by blocking all sites which relate to Bitcoin wallets/payments etc over the internet. In that case what would happen to our existing coins held in those wallets??

A lot of countries banned BTC already. However, there are thousands of ways to utilize BTC even with your government banning it. That's the main reason of BTC's existence, it is governed by no one.

Re: Bitcoin value
by
InterFinex_JB
on 06/07/2018, 00:30:49 UTC
I've just watched the John Oliver show about cryptocurrencies and something struck me about what he said:

" like most currencies, the fundamental reason that bitcoin has value is that people agree that it has value"

I just want to know your thoughts on this. I only have a little understanding about the idea of currency and its value although i've already been at it all my life. Im new into this kind currency and right now its plumetting.

partly correct, if everybody agrees it has no value it will have no value esp that it is not backed up by any banking or govt institution like paper money. however, its being utilized as a medium of exchange for goods and services, and many people find it more convenient esp those advocates of cashless society. therefore, its value stands.

TRUTH is BTC can die anytime soon. There's always the possibility of it being gone. However, I am more inclined to believe in the fact and truth about blockchain technology. BTC set the standard of all other existing coins, therefore, it won't die or just die.

Re: Does hoarding really hurt Bitcoin?
by
InterFinex_JB
on 29/06/2018, 07:19:34 UTC
Taking into consideration the fixed quantity of bitcoins that can be created, I believe hoarding does not hurt bitcoin. By decreasing the amount of bitcoin in circulation, the demand increases, which  eventually increases its value. More people will then be encouraged to mine because their mining profit will increase.

First and for all, you need to research what is their progress during the past weeks or even months. Their advantages and disadvantages.

For me, both are really good investment especially bitcoin who is the lead in the market cap until now.

No one can predict what is going to happen. However it is possible. ETH has a lot of possibilities especially this year. Let's hope for the best.

Re: What factors scare others from investing into bitcoin?
by
InterFinex_JB
on 27/06/2018, 07:24:13 UTC
News outlets talk about bitcoin as just a flash in the pan and USA has talked about regulating it to the point of useless.

Some say it might have a future, but people don't want to invest into a "maybe".

It has also not displayed the characteristics of an actual currency. For example, transaction times and fees are extremely high.

Thank you for sharing your story! We should all learn from it. Scams are everywhere. The only thing we are capable of is to research, analyze and investigate if you want to invest on it. Bitcoin is not a scam but people are using it to scam other people. We should all be careful.

That's true! I've read an article that says you can buy cars and real estate properties with bitcoins. Check out this site: http://bitcoin-realestate.com/ .

You can even book your flights using btc. Online travel booking sites such as Expedia and CheapAir.com are now accepting bitcoins.

There are tons of useful resources online. You can do some research using google and by watching youtube videos. Feel free to check out this link too: https://blockgeeks.com/guides/ . I found many informative articles about cryptocurrencies from that site. You may find that helpful too Wink
