Since I don't have the 1080Ti in my farm, I've never actually used "the pill" and I was wondering what exactly happened with "OhGodAGirl"?
Can someone sum it up? Did she end up scamming certain people? What does she have to do with ProgPOW?

I always assumed she was wolf0's girlfriend or wife since his software in the past had the prefix "OhXXXX". Wolf0's been pretty legit and has a good reputation and such. Many of the algo's he's released for free.

Before the Pill, the eth hash is about 35MH/s. After the pill, the hash rate is about 50MH/s. It is for my 1080Ti.

Re: My latest adventures with GTX 1080 mining

So I have stayed with using CryptoDredge for my mining software. Software is very stable and easy to use. Spent a week trying different coins/wallets/pools. I really love the idea of zpool and wanted to make that work for my situation, but I find it just does not give me anyway to break even or get ahead. For coin selection - Bitcoin Diamond was the clear leader when it came to income. For pools I ended up choosing Minerscore (small but reasonable). If my current calculations are accurate I can mine roughly $1.40 of this coin each week. Hopefully the coin will appreciate over time as I expect, so that it is worth the time and effort. I hope this is helpful to someone getting started.

I was never a supporter of mining a coin that might MIGHT  increase value in the future.  the wise approach for mining would be to mine the coin that will give you the most reward in BTC or FIAT and then use the profit to buy the coin you like. doing so, you will get more of the coin rather than directly mining it. unless you want to support the the coin's network which does not make sense to me either  Grin.

Good luck and thanks for sharing the info.

That is right. I mine the most profitable coin and then convert it to Bitcoin Cash.

Today I've begun to use your miner on R9 280 for Ravencoin mining. This card is with Hynix memory (it works only on 1400 Mhz). Hashrate is 3.8-4 mh/s with about 100 watts of power consumption (GPU Core 1000 Mhz, power limit - 20%). Not so bad for such a card!

Would it be more profitable to mine XMR with it?

I believe the recent fall in BTC price was caused by Bitmain liquidating BTC they hold before the IPO.
That company is a cancer to crypto: Monopoly in mining, monopoly in hardware, lawsuits in California for theft of the hashrate during setup process etc.
I really hope they leave the crypto business and concentrate on AI, but then again they will figure new way of mining crypto using AI.
Alone that company could control our decentralized crypto world - is not that scary?

Do you have evidence of Bitmain selling BTC for USD? Did you find the transfer of BTC from Bitmain address to exchanges?

I stopped mining in july, too little profit to deal with the heat, and sold most of of my gpus. I kept a couple, one at each location i mine ( home and work). I just started again with them, its getting colder now so its basically free heating and a small 1$ day profit ( a 1080ti can basically still do like 50c day after electricity) after 0.12 electric cost. which i basically just trade for btc and hodl it in case sometime the next couple of years it takes off again.

once it starts getting warmer again ill stop unless the situation has changed drastically.

I do the same. The only difference is that my electricity is higher at $0.18. So I use the miner for heating.

Good news in the short term for GPU's, but this is just putting of the inevitable.  The bigger something gets the more centralized it becomes.  You'd think it would be the other way around.

At least my 1080Ti can break even now with my electricity price.

Re: Good time to buy GPUs?
by
Intristing
on 17/09/2018, 08:49:01 UTC
It is always better to buy latest and updated versions for GPUs as they are more efficient and sometimes cheaper or slightly expensive than the older/previous models. The grey/used market is also a good source to buy GPUs and much discounted price especially when the market is down as newbies tend to sell away to cover the losses and exit mining

i personally think that anyone who buys a 20-series card for mining is going to get burned.

they are outrageously expensive, and it looks like they will use even more power (judging based on the HUUUGE HSFs on most models). I really doubt they will be much, if any, more power efficient than 10 series cards.

i'd love to be wrong, but i just dont see it.

for example, a 1080ti is the most power efficient card on ETH with the ETHpill.

50-55 MH/s @ about 150-160W. and they cost under $500 right now.

if you assume the 20 series cards will be the same power efficiency, this is what kind of hashrates they'd have to produce to justify the price over a used 1080ti. (based on EVGA prices for the cheapest 20 series models they have right now)

2080 - 80MH/s
2080ti - 120MH/s

i just dont see that happening.

If we undervolt the 1080Ti more, then it is more efficient than the 2080Ti. The price will be much lower.

Anyone mining here with an old R9 290 ?

Basically it seems with every new DAG, the speed is slowing down more and more.

I remember under stock clocks I would get like 26.5MH/s but now its down to 24.7MH/s with the same stock settings.

I am also using the DAG fix drivers and it fixed the slowdown on the RX GPUs but not on the older R9 GPUs.

Anyone else getting this issue and know of a fix?

Does it use less energy than the old DAG?

Already stop mining since beginning of summer. Not worth the extra heat.

If your electricity price is over $0.15/kWh, it is better to leave the miners idle.

If you have bios flashed the cards which I assume you did otherwise you can't make 6 dollars daily with Ethereum then I hope you have also undervolted the cards. This process is a bit more difficult but you can have a look here.

mining.help , this website is a complete guide for mining ethereum to near perfection.

Also since you are having trouble with your ISO do you know that there is a stripped down version of Windows 10 Home and Pro which is just geared to mining only. Here is a link in case in the future you start having problems. I really hope you don't after 2 months of suffering.

I agree ETH is the best

GPU miners are too stupid and never adapted to the changing landscape , they think their GPU are still profitable when they are not.. Asic and fpga is where the money is at.

The longer you hold gpus the more rekt you will get
That is true for the short term if you get a first batch one. Otherwise once ASICS are out the difficulty will kill your profits and you have a loud doorstopper. FPGA will be a different story as long as the Devs keep up with the algos

If you bought the S9 in the first batch, you can still make some profits now.

Someone has turned a shit load of them on.
Zcash difficulty doesn't change very quick. I seen soo many blocks go in the last few hours.
Block time meant to be 150sec I think and it was af 10sec and diff barely moved and they are happy fo have asics on thier network

fuck zcash. They were supposed to be decentralized and "privacy" transactions. They have never gotten the z address transactions to work and now they are an ASIC coin so they are neither decentralized or private. What is the point of zcash now?

Agreed, I'm focusing on BTCZ a equihash coin that switched parameters to 144,5. So the Z9 can't play their coin. The whitepaper states they will keep changing parameters to maintain asic resistance. I think snowgem and BTG are following in the same path. If they change parameters just "right before" asic's next version shipment, hopefully they will wear them out. Plus, equihash allows some modifications to the algo to provide differentiation between the various coins to further frustrate the asic manufacturers. That's why EWBF requires you to specify which coin via -pers command switch. GPU's can handle it no problem. Asics... not so much.

Yeah, BTCZ just made a successful switch last week/weekend.  BTG is scheduled to switch around July 1'st; it's running ok on their testnet for a few days now.  BTCZ is pretty small, but BTG is a large cap coin that should make a bit of a difference by switching.  I heard that Snowgem was looking into a fork but I don't know what point they are at personally.

Will BTG also be 144,5?

@EdwardCeng
Yes, I use mainly RX 470, 570, 580 and they are either 4GB or 8GB. These are best for ETH or ETC.

Electricity is still cheap. The average cost for each rig is $88, including electricity, 24/7 monitoring, maintenance (dust cleaning)

@gameboy266:
We have a small power station, support up to 300 rigs.

What is the electricity cost? in $/kwh?

I love the challenge of gpu mining and I love the chance to stick it to the 'man' which was always my hope with gpu mining.  Now fhe big boys trying to take over everything.
I like to see how CN7 plays out. I think there is good support for these types of coins.
I'm all rx and vegas.
A few asics but they are turned off as I don't have cheap power.

My plan this year is to fine tune as much as possible all my individual cards to reduce power. There is always a sweet spot somewhere with every card and when you find it it's a great feeling. The almost infinite combos of voltage/memory/gpu.

I did the same. All my cards are running at 50-70% power to prolong the life.
