Re: The Fallacy Of The Maturity Of Chances
by
Iron Fist
on 28/06/2025, 21:59:41 UTC
The law of large numbers basically says if you do something involving randomness enough times, the average result will tend to become more predictable.  For example, when flipping a coin, while any single flip has a 50/50 chance of being heads or tails if you flip it a thousand times you'll likely end up pretty close to 50% heads and 50% tails overall.

The gambler's fallacy comes into play when people think that short-term deviations from that long-term probability somehow need to correct themselves quickly.  Like if you flip 8 heads in a row, the next flip should be more likely to be tails to balance it out.  But that's not true - the odds are still 50/50.  Each flip is independent.

People struggle to really grasp how long you sometimes have to go before probabilities truly even out in random systems.  They underestimate how long the long term can really be - it could be thousands and thousands more coin flips before you see that 50% rate emerge.  People are bad at intuitively understanding true randomness over short time spans.

Re: Bitcoin must upgrade or fall victim to quantum computing in 5 years
by

I'm not sure if folks have talked about this already, but setting aside the well-known issues like Shor's algorithm on ECDSA encryption, how might quantum computers shaking things up change how Bitcoin mining works? Especially if something like Grover's search gets way faster.  Could Bitcoin be vulnerable then to 51% attacks and stuff if people have quantum rigs?

I'm not in a rush to own BTC.

Seriously? I see from your profile that you've been here since 2017 and you're rocking a whole five bucks in your wallet? That's not patience, that's just sitting on the sidelines for eight years.

At what point does patience become just... missing out?  Cheesy

$GULLAZ is a highly scalable blockchain platform embedding smart contracts which prioritizes rapid transaction speed, cost efficiency, and eco-consciousness.

How is that different from dozens (or hundreds) of other existing blockchain platforms?

Why did you choose that name? It sounds more like some meme coin.

Signature campaigns and bounties definitely liven things up around here, but I wonder what Bitcointalk would be like without them? I guess folks might still hang around just to chat crypto though. The vibe would definitely change but change isn't always bad.

That's basically spamming people, which I don't support.  If you've got some real need to contact that many people, maybe you should rethink how you're doing it.  There's got to be better ways that don't involve bombarding inboxes.  I try to recommend services that actually respect privacy and dont just spam everyone.

I just read the news. Get out while you still can!

Hey there,  first as a member rank you shod know how important it is to make use of the search feature in the top right hand to check whether or not the topic is already being discussed or not before going ahead to create a new one,  because this topic about safemokn CEO arrest and charges is already being discussed in another thread.

You can take a lock and lick this thread there after.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5472480

Aside from this advise, permit me to add my own contribution to advise OP from what he doesn't know or take serious in making a post, when bringing in any news or latest updates, try to always add your own personal thoughts to it, we want to hear your own personal interest on that same subject matter, you can't just publish a post and include the reference because you realized the consequences but couldn't give your own personal opinion regarding what you are posting, it's such a pity.

Thank you both for your comments and suggestions, but I don't think they are well thought out in this case.

First, Wiwo made the mistake of thinking that the other thread was created before mine, which was not true.

Second, your advice generally makes sense, but you may notice that the timing was crucial. Those who reacted promptly managed to safeguard a substantial portion of their assets, given that the SFM token's value plummeted over 80% within a matter of hours after the news broke. I just wanted to share breaking news with the community so they can protect themselves.

The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged SafeMoon LLC, its creator Kyle Nagy, SafeMoon US LLC, and the companies’ Chief Executive Officer, John Karony, and Chief Technology Officer, Thomas Smith, for perpetrating a massive fraudulent scheme through the unregistered sale of the crypto asset security, SafeMoon. According to the SEC’s complaint, the Defendants promised to take the price of the token “Safely to the moon,” but instead of delivering profits, they wiped out billions in market capitalization, withdrew crypto assets worth more than $200 million from the project, and misappropriated investor funds for personal use.

WARNING - Phishing emails from the Bitcoin payment company Strike
by

on 01/11/2023, 17:10:56 UTC
Be careful if you use the Strike app. Seems like some users have been getting phishing emails that looked like they were from the company.  At first Strike was refusing to admit and claimed no leak from their side. But I guess they did some more digging, cause now they sent out a message admitting it might've come from one of their third-party vendors.

Instead of relying on password managers or even an online note, find another option or way to keep your passwords or anything that is a credential to your accounts.

Personally, I use a password manager. It's convenient not having to remember passwords or use weak ones I can actually recall.  But I know everyone has their own system and not all are created equal from a security standpoint. I'm curious what your preferred method is and any password wisdom you'd share! How do you balance security and convenience when it comes to managing credentials?

The site that I'm talking about is https://cryptopanic.com/ they do also have an app.

Yeah, I think news agregators like Cryptopanic are helpful to get crypto news from different sites all in one spot.  Makes it easier to keep up on stuff and  I also check Twitter and the cryptocurrency subreddit.  But you gotta be careful and not just believe everything you read. It's good to double check facts if something seems fishy or you're gonna make a big decision based on it.  There's lots of angles and agendas with crypto news so it pays to verify before jumping to conclusions.

Re: Is the irreversibility of Bitcoin transactions a downside for an average person?
by
Iron Fist
on 01/11/2023, 01:02:05 UTC
I think it's an interesting point of view.  My guess is they're coming from the bigger picture of how decentralized systems without a middleman are useful.  Since Bitcoin cuts out the middleman, theres no one to go ask for your money back - which also means you don't have to pay fees for chargeback protection like with credit cards and stuff.  Even if you don't get an advantage all the time, having a system that's predictable can be valuable in itself.  It simplifies everything when users know upfront that transactions cant be changed later and

overall I'd say the pros of Bitcoin being irreversible are 1) no fees for chargebacks 2) fits with the decentralized model and 3) makes the system straightforward because you always know where you stand.  But I'm just speculating based on what I know about crypto and payments.  Definitely an interesting perspective from certain users.

I'm on an iphone and do you have any app suggestions for iOS devices since I don't see KeePassXC for iOS or Android?

KeePassXC is like a total rewrite of the original KeePass password manager.  The developers rewrote everything from scratch so it could work natively on Linux, Windows, and Mac instead of just Windows. But turns out the developers decided not to make their own mobile app because there's already some really good KeePass apps for Android and iPhone.

For Android, they recommend KeePassDX or KeePass2Android.  Both seem solid based on reviews.

And on iPhone Strongbox or KeePassium are their top picks.  I checked out Strongbox briefly and it looked slick and simple to use.

Anyway, the key thing is that all these mobile apps are open source and compatible with KeePassXC.  So they can sync up and work together nicely.

Bad news, folks! I just saw this article about how a bunch of LastPass users got hacked and lost millions in crypto.  So LastPass is that password manager where you can store all your passwords and stuff securely online.  But they got breached last year when someone stole an employee's credentials. and  Since then, hackers have been targeting LastPass users who might kept their crypto wallet info on there - private keys, seed phrases etc.

According to the article, at least 25 LastPass users were hit and the hackers made off with about $4.4 million in crypto across different blockchains - Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Arbitrum, Solana, Polygon.. and users wallets got completely cleaned out in just one day.  Can you imagine logging in one day and seeing your entire crypto portfolio gone?!

This is a wake up call if you've ever stored sensitive info like crypto keys on LastPass or similar services.  You gotta move your assets to a more secure spot, like a hardware wallet or something.  Seriously go do it! This stuff keeps happening over and over again. Don't be the next victim!

Re: Invest in bitcoin and forget the investment
by
Iron Fist
on 30/10/2023, 18:13:39 UTC
When money and investing come up, it makes total sense that people get interested.  But just jumping in without actually understanding everything involved is pretty much asking for trouble.  Whether we're talking about Bitcoin or anything else, you really need both some knowledge and some cash to put in.

It's kind of worrying how many people seem to just toss their money at stuff like crypto, hoping itll grow without really getting that cryptocurrencies can be super volatile and risky.  Just having Bitcoin isn't only about being patient.  You also gotta understand how the whole market works, plus what's going on with cryptocurrencies in general and

I mean, I get the appeal and why people want to try getting in on the ground floor.  Who wouldn't want their investment to take off and make them a bunch of money? But you gotta be smart too.  Do some research so you know what youre getting into.  Start small so you don't lose your shirt if things go south.  And pay attention to what's happening so you can make educated choices. Patience helps with that, sure.  But knowledge has gotta be part of the equation.  Otherwise it's too much like playing the lottery - just crossing your fingers and hoping for the best.  And we all know how often that actually pays off in the long run.

Re: What's Missing from the Best and Most Promising Cryptocurrency, Cogitex?
by
Iron Fist
on 25/09/2023, 21:45:40 UTC
It is a young project, so it is currently traded on pancakeswap. Cogitex has proven itself with promising ideas, for example, AI development and space exploration. And every project started from scratch. It can't be that you immediately know and believe in any young project. This can only be the case with publicized projects with already large capital.

That's not entirely accurate, in my opinion! Speaking as someone who's been involved in a few startups, I've seen firsthand how young projects can turn into something pretty amazing. But, it all boils down to the vision and the creative thinking driving the project. It's not just about how much cash you kick things off with.

Now, I'll be upfront – I haven't dug deep into your project, but based on what I've seen here on the forum, I didn't spot anything that would make me want to invest. If Cogitex has some promising ideas up its sleeve, it might be a good move to spill the beans with more specifics and real-world examples of how those ideas will actually play out and what benefits they bring.

Investors usually look for projects that not only have cool ideas but also a clear roadmap for how they'll grow and a solid strategy. Being straight up about your team's skills and having a rock-solid marketing game plan can also help build investor trust.

Isn't that obvious? You get merit when you contribute something positive.

I mean, if you take a look at your posting style, it should be quite evident why others might not see your contributions as merit-worthy. Or did you have a different idea of what "merits" were all about?
