3 hours ago I hedged my bets and configured 3 different pools.

Not one of them has come up, even during the fail launch. cgminer has been trying to connect the entire time.

I feel sorry for the guys who did this - maybe even just relying on a single pool - and went to sleep...

CGMiner might be there problem here.....

Where are you buyers of Auroracoin getting a wallet for it?

I don't see any mention of a wallet on the website.

The wallet is the first two links in the first post of this thread under " Update ASAP to v. 1.1.0.0" :
https://github.com/baldurodinsson/auroracoin-project/
http://auroracoin.org/resources/auroracoin-qt.zip

Also the two buttons on the website http://www.auroracoin.org labeled "auroracoin-qt for Win"  and "auroracoin-qt for Mac" are also download links to their respective versions.

If you have 4200k/h power.... would you solo mine at the current difficulty of 15 or stick with pool?

Personally I'd stick with the pool. More consistent payout vs solo with that hash power. IMHO.

I'm working on a FAQ for pennies/cent.
Here's my progress so far.

---About Pennies---
How many pennies will be created?
How many coins have been created so far?

---About the client---
Where can I download the client?
https://github.com/RazorLove/pennies-qt
Click on “download ZIP”

What is “saving interest”  on the Pennie's client?

---Stake---

What is stake?
The point of stake is to solidify the network from 51% attacks by keeping wallets online and synced constantly even if you aren't solo mining.

How long does it take for stake?
7 days.
 But that only means your coin blocks are ELIGIBLE to PRODUCE a stake block... it still has to be accepted by the blockchain before it counts and the block can be orphaned forcing another attempt to be made at a later time. The existing issue is Pennies has a maximum tx amount and the insane stake multiplier makes any block of coins over a certain amount ineligible to be stake worthy because the transaction will be rejected by the blockchain when it sees it is over the maximum tx limit. This is fixed in version 10 of the Pennies client and goes into effect with the stake correction that takes place starting January 8th."

Do you need to have your client constantly "on" to receive the state?
Or could you set up yourself to receive stakes,not use the client for several months,and then return to find you have loads of stakes?

The client must be open and synced in order for the PoS blocks to attempt generation...

you can leave the client closed and then open and sync it just before your coindate reaches maturity for stake, and then it will be eligible to do so... but leaving it offline will NEVER generate stake ever. The point of stake is to solidify the network from 51% attacks by keeping wallets online and synced constantly even if you aren't solo mining.

What's this stake update about?
Exactly 7 days after this deadline (8th January 2014 at 00:00:00 GMT) the new Proof of Stake values will kick in and reduce stake by a factor of 10,000. This would mean a transaction of 100,000 would generate approximately 90 CENT on top of the original stake after the typical 9 days it takes for stakes to happen.

How much stake did I get before the update?
If you had 100 million Pennies, you would receive 1 billion Pennies.

How much stake do I get now?
100,000 would generate approximately 90 CENT

How do I get stake?
You just wait.
You just wait,and there's no need to enter anything in the “Command Line Banking” aspect of the client.

What if I sent pennies in units of more than 900 million to my wallet?
You can either send the pennies in units of 50 millon or less, to a different address in the same wallet, saving having to go through Cryptsy.

Or

 You could send ALL of your Pennies to Cryptsy, THEN delete all of the pennies client data including that found in the roaming folder,reinstall the pennies client,and then transfer your pennies in units of 50million or less back to your pennies client.

Would you mind if I put this on centcon.org? Averaging 100 uniques a day. This faq would be a perfect addition.

Happy Holidays to all.

I think that's a really great start for the website - clean, simple and attractive. The only complaint I have is the whole "Cent coin" thing. I don't really like the sound of that. I would suggest keeping just Pennies or Cent (maybe something like the CryptoPenny). We don't really have to follow the syntax of every other coin in existence, especially as "Penny" and "Cent" are already well-known references to currency/coinage.

Also, I think we as a community need to come up with a definitive logo design and stick with it. I like what you did with it (much better than the straight-up penny imho) but we need to have something that is consistent for Cent to be recognized by.

Thanks for the positive feedback! As to following the syntax X Coin, ie CENT coin, I was thinking for SEO purposes competing with the listing for Cent and Penny would be hurtful to the visibility of the currency in the search engines. Currently to get search results about Cent it requires searching google for "Cent Coin Crypto" even "Cent Coin" is not enough to display relevant results. So for now as a young currency that is most definitely in survival mode, I figure any help I could give on the search engine visibility front would be worthwhile.

My hopes in creating this site are that it will help to bring the uniformity that this coin requires in order for long term survival. I'm not personally attached to the logo but I agree the penny picture has to go!

Lets all keep this conversation going I thinks it's the best shot we have at keeping CENT alive.

Re: MINING WITH MULTIPLE COMPUTERS
by

Not to flog a dead horse but I have also heard even a cluster of 40 cpus will not mine efficiently. Assuming they are mixed cpus hash rates could be all over the place. Also if you don't want people to know the computers are mining, you won't be able to mine with 100% cpu usage otherwise the computers will be very choppy and basically unusable. But like others above me have said you could run the mining software in the background and have each one as a different pool worker. Curious to hear actual results of a setup like this.

Basic GLDcoin Solo Mining Tutorial for CGminer
by
Itsltctime
on 20/05/2013, 05:44:57 UTC
I was hoping to develop this a little further but have found myself busier than expected. Please let me know of any mistakes and I will try and fix them asap.

How to mine GLDcoin with cgminer

Before installing any mining software make sure you have downloaded and installed both

AMD APP SDK:
http://developer.amd.com/tools/hc/AMDAPPSDK/downloads/Pages/default.aspx

Latest AMD Drivers:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Step 1) Download the appropriate version of GLDcoin-qt wallet.

Linux x64 Binarieshttps://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-V2r5eb7IgtYlh2UWVyajRtUEE/edit?usp=sharing
Linux 32bit Binaries https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-V2r5eb7IgtVHp1T2VyYXFtWXM/edit?usp=sharing
Windows Binaries https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-V2r5eb7IgteHRCb09RUkpJQlU/edit?usp=sharing

Unzip to your desired location.

Step 2) Download cgminer:

Cgminer:
https://github.com/ckolivas/cgminer

One you have downloaded cgminer, unzip it.

Step 3) Setup GLDcoin.conf

On a windows machine, click the start button and type:  %appdata% then click enter.
In the window that opens navigate to the GLDcoin folder and open it.
Once inside the GLDcoin folder, right-click and create a new text document.
Name the new document GLDcoin.conf
Open the newly created GLDcoin.conf in any text editor and copy the and paste the following:

rpcuser=ChooseAUsername
rpcpassword=ChooseAPassword
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcport=8122
server=1
gen=0

Choose whatever username and password you would like to use for your miner.
You will need this information again to enter into your cgminer batch file in the next step.
Save GLDcoin.conf and exit your text editor.

Step 4) Create cgminer bat

Navigate to the folder where you unzipped cgminer.
Again right-click and create a new text file.
Inside the next text file copy and paste the text below:

cgminer --scrypt -o http://127.0.0.1:9112 -u ChoseAUserName -p ChooseAPassword

Change the -u to the username you chose in the previous step and the same with -p for the password.
Save this document as startmining.bat

Step 5) Launch GLDcoin-qt in server mode

Click the start button and type “cmd” and click enter.
In the command prompt that opens, navigate to the location you unzipped GLDcoin-qt and run GLDcoin-qt.exe with the -server flag.

For instance:
c:\users\yourusername\desktop\goldcoin\GLDcoin-qt.exe -server

In a few seconds your GLDcoin wallet should open. If this is the first time you have opened it, it may take a few minutes to download all of the block chain data. Once GLDcoin-qt is up-to-date, navigate to the mining tab.

Enter the following:
Server – 127.0.0.1
Port – 8122
Username – ChooseAUsername
Password – ChooseAPassword

Again be sure to use the same username and password from the previous steps.
Click the Start Mining Button.

Step 6) Open cgminer bat

Navigate to the cgminer folder where you created your startmining.bat
Double-click startmining.bat
It may take a minute or two for cgminer to start running.
If everything is setup right, you should now be mining GLDcoin!
