Just be sure they aren't scammers, ask for pictures of the cards with a paper with their name on it and date.  You could take it a step further and search their user name on the forums and ebay.  This is all if you are paying bitcoins for them, if you are doing paypal, you don't have as much to worry about.

What cooler do you have on your 6950?  I have the reference cooler and have to run the fan speed at 60% to get mid 80's temps.

Fooled me and I lost more bitcoins than I care to mention.  He is on bitmit claiming to have 5830's for sale at a low price, he tried to get me to buy in bulk by lowering the price and I fell for it.  He won't reply nor have I seen my coins back so I assume they are gone, I just sure hope he needed them more than I did....   Cry

There are sellers on BitMit that sell games and gift them to you through steam.  Most use escrow so I would assume it is a pretty safe transaction...

The only 5 series card that get over ~400Mhash/s are the dual gpu cards ie. 5970.

I wouldn't waste money on the gpu you selected.  I'd buy a 5830 for less than $100 on ebay and get 300Mhash/s per card.

That's the thing.  My current 6970 only get's a little over 300Mhash/s.  Why does a later generation also produce similar results?

My 6950 unlocked to a 6970 gets 400Mhash/s.  Make sure in CCC that under performance "AMD overdrive" power control settings should be at +20%.

The advantage is lower power consumption by multitudes with in turn doesn't generate as much heat.  So if the power bill is troubling you and you don't mind a higher initial investment, FPGA miners may be for you.

$1000 will get you about 800mhash/s

Usually the surveys suck and the payout for the survey is no where near profitable for my time that is spent doing the survey.

You need a computer with a decent graphics card and a way to combat the additional heat it will be generating.  If you are smart there is money to be made, as with anything.

Getting my first thread out of the way so I can make posts elsewhere.  I have been lurking for a while learning and I now feel knowledgeable to make a decent post!   Smiley

Share some knowledge!

In mining 30 coins so far with my single 6950 I have learned that it is hard to give up my coins that I've collected for so long now.  I also can't really find an effective use for them, I'm thinking about trading them for graphics cards.

OP, and to anyone whose Mhash isn't what it is supposed to be and goes down with overclock.  In your task bar right click on the ATi CCC icon and go to performance I think it is. There is a power saving feature (powertune) set it to +20, then apply settings.  You should now see a huge increase in speed, my unlocked 6950 was doing 360mhash/s before and now that I set powertune to +20 I am getting 400mhash/s.  Good luck!

With the power of 7Mhash/s you will have made $8.35 in a year.

http://bitcoin.web-share.nl/?q=7&unit=m¤cy=usd&fee=0

Use that if you want a quick idea of how much Mhash/s you will need to make it seem profitable to you!

Good luck!
