Calling all miners...voting is going to be super close to 90% this round...if you have extra hash to throw at Ravenminer, Suprnova, or Beepool, please send that hash to those bigger pools at least until the vote passes.  There's some great momentum, but have to push this across the finish line and consolidating hash to larger pools give us the best shot.

Check https://minermore.com/tools/rvn_vote/ for the latest status of the vote, and if you don't have hash make sure to send bad mojo to the rogue RSa5 address. Wink

I like the prospects of Ravencoin.  Should be able to break into the Top 100 over the next 2 or 3 months (150's now), but the real magic will happen late October through the rest of the year.  Mainnet launches 10/31, T-zero should launch in Q4, security token/exchange market may get hot quick, and the coin still isn't trading on many exchanges (or any big ones, really), so there are other opportunities there.

Right now RVN is $0.023
End of year I'm predicting $0.20

I'm also predicting a lot of bullish calls in this thread and very few to materialize as predicted.  Wink  Invest at your own risk and be smart!

Just checking back through some old posts...this looks pretty solid still.  RVN is on a crazy roll, and the dev team killed it with the asset integration into the wallet (and mobile wallets).  Create a tokenized asset in seconds from your phone.  Just need the exchanges to start launching now in Q4/Q1....RVN's ready for it!

Re: How good projects should start

They're incredibly rare, but projects like Ravencoin (which modeled Bitcoin) to me are some of the best.  No premine, no ICO or sale of any sort, no centralized owner, no airdrop, no masternode crap.  Just like BTC...released into the wild with a vision, and if the community accepts it, develops code to execute on the vision, and keeps true to that and what the community wants from it, that's a great recipe for success.  Of course it doesn't hurt it's had some significant backing from Overstock to facilitate a code team to get it off the ground, but they don't make any sort of claim to control it.  There's obvious connections there, but ultimately the coin needs to stand on its own to have a future.  Might not be that flashy in your face thing you see advertised all over the place, but neither was bitcoin when it started.

Ugh...net hash is pretty gross right now.   What do you think it averages out at after DGW is in place?  Was it about 1TH before the swings started occurring?

Re: WHAT DOES HODL MEANS ANYWAY??

Hodl is the divine word coined by a fellow member from this forum and is now being written in dictionaries. This could be called a drunken serendipity but has become a valuable contribution of this forum to english (and every) language.
Here's the original post of origin https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=375643.0

LOL...thanks for this.  I knew the rough origins as an honest misspell that the community ran with, but never was pointed back to the genesis post...that's stuff of legends.  HODL those coins strong, people.

As Sept 3rd was announced as the start of the crowdsale, will the offering memorandum be released on that day?  Any update to the whitepaper or information about the airdrop?

Talked to someone at lunch today who was into bitcoin circa 2012.  He sold around $250 and felt pretty good about himself.  Oops.  He said he did the best on 'coins I totally forgot about' that he was able to dig up once things were exploding in 2017.  HODL works.  Have a hypnotist erase crypto from your memory for 5 years and check back then. I think there's a lot more than ETH in the top 20 of market cap right now that have less of a reason to be there (cough....ripple...cough), but ETH has some pretty serious issues to overcome and there are other dapp platforms launched or launching that already address scalability/speed and other concerns.  Its surprising how quickly people have turned on ETH, but not without some good reason.

The $6000 support has been so stout for BTC this year, I've bought there when it's fall into that range this year....EXCEPT this latest dip.  I agree it's going to go lower before it's all said and done, and should pick up some steam in Q4.  A lot of interesting stuff on the horizon.

I'm going into a little bit of a HODLing pattern after doing pretty well on exchanges....taking my earnings out tonight until the next time I want to try to swing some trades.  It was fun and I might miss out on early action by not having my coin on the exchange, but the risk is just too high with everything I've seen go on.  Be safe out there!

Yeah, lots of good wallet options out there.  As if trading wasn't risky enough, you have to worry about hacking or exit scams.  Still, if you're in the trading game, it's kind of a must to leave some amount of coins on exchanges to be able to do what you need in a timely manner.  I only trade with a small amount of my bag ever, and often it will be on 2 different exchanges until I've done what I need.  Then back in the wallet unless I'm continuing to trade it...very rarely do I ever have an amount that's not tied up in an order on an exchange.  Stay safe everybody!

From a value-holding standpoint, since BTC's value has already dropped about 80% during times in its history (like mid 2014 $1200 into 2015 $200), it's been pretty tested.  If people were willing to hang on to $200 and hold through it, the latest spike has only brought new holders into the fold that will sustain higher lows.  It's here to stay, and it brought some friends with it.

Re: What is your trading style?
by
JaekRock
on 05/08/2018, 22:45:35 UTC
I've used a few different strategies at different times depending on what was going on.  My technique doesn't involve a whole lot of technical analysis...has more to do with an active understanding of the coin and its market dynamics. I think some good advice is to be plugged into the communities and not spread yourself thin as far as what you're paying attention too.  It allows you to have a better reaction time if you're going to be an active trader and understand what's behind the ups and downs.  Also, I only trade with a portion of my bag.  Ultimately, I believe in the coin and want to get more of it...not looking to cash out short term.  If that's your motive as well, one bad trade can hurt you a lot, so I only trade with 20-25% of my bag.

Generally, if the market is bullish where I feel there could be a decent swing up, I set several high sell orders in front of larger sell orders in hopes that the market will pump to those levels and give me time to check whats going and decide whether to try arbitrage, swing trade, or a quick turnaround daytrade while the large orders get eaten up.  If I do swing/daytrade it, I'll usually only look to make 5-10% or less and then find a new higher position to set.  If I think its going to pump higher (50-100%+), I might put one high order in, but generally I'll just HODL that thing until I feel it's peaked and sell most of it, hanging onto a bit in case it goes higher.

On downturns, it's kind of the same thing in reverse.  I'll set some lower buys at various levels (above larger orders), and if they fill I'll generally try to make 2-3% on a low sell order and then set a lower price buy order in again.

In flat portions, I'll use both strategies to just make those 1-5% plays in either direction and try to stay sort of close to the top of both buy/sell books.  I usually won't have my whole trading bag out there either, in case things shift suddenly, which can definitely happen in crypto.

There are exceptions where I might do something different depending on why the price is going up or down, but in general that's what's worked best.  And of course, don't be too greedy, and have some patience.   Also, don't be afraid to take some small losses.  If you sold/bought too early, and the market is still moving quick, find a way to get out of the position and make it up with a better trade later on.

Full disclosure/disclaimer...I only have been trading crypto for like a month or two, but I've over tripled my trading bag doing the stuff above.

Why not use something like the Dark Gravity Wave (DGW) Difficulty algorithm from DASH to adjust mining difficulty every block?
https://docs.dash.org/en/latest/introduction/features.html#dark-gravity-wave

I think the devs are doing exactly that, but DGW won't be implemented until mainnet from what I heard.

If bitcoin was going to die, it would have done it already.  There will still be some pretty significant downs in the future I'm sure, but only to rise again.
