Can someone confirm if the Gray circle on the back of the square Trezor package means it's a Metallic trezor or plastic? Or how can I tell if it's the Metallic one?

thanks:

That's a good question, but I didn't see any indication if it's metallic. Maybe that grey circle on the back of the Trezor means metallic, but I'm not sure. I was trying to peek inside somehow, but didn't want to damage the packaging.

I guess it would probably be possible to do some analysis without opening the package to see if it's metallic/aluminum inside. For example, weighing the product, or doing some kind of imaging scan.

Very nice to own an packaged metal one. Any chance you can post a pic of what the packaging  looks like?  Thanks

Here it is.

Well, envelope is opened, but package / trezor unopened.

Can see the shipment date on the envelope from Prague, January 7th, 2014 to New York city.

Thanks for the photos. That package is indeed for a first edition Trezor.  My question is....where does it indicate it is the metal one? Is there anything on the package indicating it's metall?

Does anyone remember back in late 2013, when SatoshiLabs was taking pre-orders for the first batch of hardware wallets, this included how many plastic / Classic wallets, and how many First Edition Metallic wallets?

If I remember correctly, in the first batch, there were only 100-200 First Edition Metallic wallets ever created, correct?

Can someone confirm. thanks

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure only 100-200 of these Metallics First Editions were sent out in the first ever hardware wallet batch in 2014.

I have to go check my records, but on satoshilabs website, they say they made 1000 in the first batch, but this included both Classic (plastic) and metallic.
https://satoshilabs.com/our-story

If I remember correctly, only around 100-200 of those were the First Edition Metallic versions. The rest 800+ were the Classic/Plastic ones.

Hi,

I was one of the first customers to get the First Edition Trezor Metallic Hardware wallet from SatoshiLabs. I bought a plastic one also, and kept the metallic as a collectible, thinking it would be worth a lot some day 20-40 years from now.

It's now been 10 years.  I'm curious what it's worth. I don't see any on sale anymore.

It was from the first batch, from 2014 (not talking about later in 2016 when they were made).

It's still in its original packaging, and even in the mailing envelope from Czech Republic. I'm sure someone from Trezor could probably even verify the purchase. I have the original emails, and orders, and the bitcoin transaction.

I'm probably going to hold it for another 20-30 years, but was just curious what it could be worth these days, if anything.

Here's more Info:

https://medium.com/@satoshilabs/buytrezor-com-kicks-off-cryptosteel-in-a-limited-bundle-with-first-edition-trezor-metallics-e17e8b2059b1

TREZOR Metallics First Edition was the first hardware wallet ever produced. It was delivered to the earliest crowdfunders in May 2014. TREZOR Metallics come in a brushed aluminum case with the words First Edition engraved on the back.

TREZOR sales launched to the public in August 2014, and in a few short months it became the global standard for bitcoin security. TREZOR is now used in nearly 100 countries worldwide and boasts the highest customer satisfaction rating in the industry, with a return rate of less than 0.3%.

THanks, but I'm trying to use ArmoryD, and write a script to do this, not through the Wallet Interface/GUI.

I think I figured out a way to modify the code to filter out the utxoList, for the specific address.

Re: Bitfinex - Conversion from BT2-> B2X & BT1->BTC At The Time Of The Fork
by

According to Bitfinex' announcement, they say there will be continuous trading:

"We have a responsibility to foster, maintain, and support orderly markets that trade continuously 24/7/365. With a hard fork that lacks clear community consensus, we cannot suspend operations and wait for a winner to emerge. Leveraged trading requires that our markets operate continuously. On operational requirements alone, we must designate such forks as new assets."

but NOT CONTINUOUS DEPOSITS/WITHDRAWALS:

"At the moment of the fork, all deposits and withdrawals for both BTC and B2X will be halted until we are able to: 1. ‘taint’ our customers’ bitcoins to ensure withdrawals cannot be replayed on both chains; and, 2. ensure that we can properly credit deposits in the event a transaction is replayed on both chains. We expect this process to require at least 24 hours, and potentially significantly longer. If the the event happens, announcements will be made throughout the process to keep everyone up to date."

Re: Bitfinex just opened market for SegWit2x (bt2) vs Legacy Bitcoin (bt1) trading
by
JamesBold

I sent these questions to Bitfinex support, but haven't gotten a response yet. Hoping some people know the answers on here:

Question 1a) Assuming I had split my BTC into BT1 & BT2 tokens well in advance using the Token Manager, and assuming both chains will exist, when the first Segwit2X block #494784 is mined, how soon do my BT1 and BT2 tokens get converted respectively to BTC & B2X, and can begin trading them? (For example, one exchange says they may take up to 24 hours to resume trading for BTC & B2X, I'm hoping Bitfinex has this process automated with minimum downtime). My goal is to make sure I am able to trade both BTC & B2X as soon as the fork occurs.

Question 1b) What is faster - just holding a BTC balance right before the fork, and waiting until Bitfinex credits me with 1:1 BTC:B2X, or will it be faster/smoother to use the token manager in advance, and wait until Bitfinex automatically converts the BT1 & BT2s into BTC/B2X respectively?

When you say ensure "Continuous trading" for BT2/B2X chain, does it mean that as soon as the fork happens- block #494784 is mined- the BT2's are automatically converted to B2X, or will you likely have to freeze trading and make sure the fork went smoothly?

Thanks I hope my questions make sense, please really try to answer them with consideration.

Re: The dangerously shifted incentives of SegWit
by
JamesBold
on 22/10/2017, 22:08:42 UTC
Segwit has the issue of being totally reversible. For the coins or transactions done on Segwit they can be manipulated successfully by a 51% attack so well that they won't even have transaction IDs on the Segwit chain any more.

If you choose to use Segwit you are risking a 51% attack miner who can literally take the entire history of the blockchain of Segwit, wipe it, and take the coins.

As it stands now with the current BTC blockchain it is unlikely that a 51% attack can affect more than the last 2 or 3 blocks.

I'm sorry, but can anyone else back this up? This sounds like bullshit. I read from many reputable sources that SegWit transactions only have this "potential reversible transaction" vulnerability only for unconfirmed transactions. Once a transaction is confirmed, then it is secure.
