It looks like only bot is trading with itself on Bittrex!  Grin Owner of bot is doing volume to avoid delisting from exchange. Anyway, unserious coin.

Should get more bots on different coins, as this bot is doing well playing with itself.

I am weary of SONM, there seems very little development on their part (most of their code is currently just forks of other code). I wish their ideas would work, but unfortunately they seem a bit too risky at this point for my taste.

I had some INSN, and I must say they have a good community going. But I do think they are dependent on other groups for their development (http://cryptocoderz.com/, CryptoCoders). CryptoCoders are involved in other coins as well, http://cryptocoderz.com/#portfolio, and I think this slows down development. It was one of my first coins that I bought, I bought the old INSANE coin and later did the swap on Novaexchange. I was a fresh newbie and bought on a high (6425) and then I was kind of locked in. The community are very amped on their coin, and they have a lot of plans, but I do not think it has much intrinsic value, for example 20 confirmations are required to transfer coins, which takes a few hours. This kind of removes the idea of being a viable currency for commerce as it is way too slow, but the community believes this improves security.

I cannot say what the future will hold and I wish them all the best, but I think they are missing some direction and in the mean time the coin is losing value while other coins are rising. For this reason I sold all my coins.

I suggest you do more research on the coin. If anything one of it's important aspects is the speed in which it confirms and is ready to be used by the receiver

I'm only talking about my own experience, and this was not very favourable towards speed of transfer.

I don't know if the underlying platforms would allow this, but my suggestion would be:
- Fix the gas limit (if using Ethereum)
- Randomly select which transactions go through
- Put un upper limit to the number of tokens which can be bought per transcation

Re: [ANN] Storj - Decentralized Storage
by

What do you mean? like removing off people who submitted payments improperly and lost their coins? cause fi that was the case storj would still receive their coins , they just wouldnt get thestorj token, there is no reason whatsoever that the amount fundraised should have lowered while bitcoin was currently rising in value unless storj was faking numbers allowing the ico to run longer than cap intended

The numbers should reflect the price of the coin at time of sale.  They were not.   They applied a fix, so that it is correct.
Why did it just go down another million then? After the fix...
What did?
The number of coins available?  Undecided
Couldn't have been the value because it can not be worth that much just yet.
The USD total raised went down by a mill it was nearly 29 mil and now it went back down to nearly 27 mil

It would be really nice if someone representing Storj could give a definitive answer to this question.

Re: [ANN] [STJ] STORJ Token Sale :: 19th May - 19th June
by
JapieAmerika

The meter was calculating based on the floating price of Bitcoin, instead of at time of purchase.  So it looked like more money was spent than there actually was.  They applied a temporary fix yesterday, and are applying a permanent fix today.  So it now properly shows the correct amount based on time of purchase.

Are you part of the project? If not can you share your sources?

I asked this on the other Storj thread but it might be more appropriate here:

I see in this post, http://blog.storj.io/post/111594471093/why-sjcx-why-not-bitcoin, from February 2015, that the idea was for the SJCX coin to not be a store of value and that "SJCX will be capped by market forces at a suitably transactable value (incidentally, this is one reason we say SJCX is not an investment)."

This article is referenced on the token sale page under "Why use a token?", "Granularity". May I ask what the plan is to keep the value of Storj down?

Re: [ANN][ICO] OROCRYPT – Digitized Precious Metals On The Ethereum Blockchain
by
JapieAmerika

What is the need for voting rights if the founders have ~68.3% majority?

According to the general information, the company has two classes of shares which will be allocated in a definite way. 45% of Class A shares are being offered for sale. 24% are held by the board as Class B shares. Other 31% are reserved for a future employee incentives pool, finance, bonuses, compensation and etc. Both classes have identical economic benefits and what is more, the holders of our Class A common stock and Class B common stock will generally vote together as a single class.

If you meant something else, please specify, how you calculated 68%.

According to the announcement there are 845118 class A shares and 266882 class B shares. Class A shares have 1 vote per share while class B shares have 10 votes per share. Therefore the total number of votes are 1 x 845118 + 10 x 266882 = 3513938, of which 10 x 266882/3513938 = 75.95% is the class B voting percentage. I made a mistake in my previous calculation.

So in actual fact the number of shares being offered for sale (500000) only have a 14.23% vote.

I just cannot see the reason for the different classes as the 500000 shares on sale have such small say in the company. In fact the class A shares which represent ~76% of the total number of shares have a combined ~24% (including the allocation to treasury, rewards, payments for services and employees participation) say in the direction of the company.

It just feels like there is no use in giving the class A shares any voting rights and it seems like a "token" gesture.

You can use https://shapeshift.io

But do first have a look at their exchange rates and compare that with the fees you'll pay for selling the alts on Poloniex or Bittrex.
I do not know for sure, but I suspect that it would be cheaper to just sell the alts for bitcoins on the exchanges.

An illogical foolish risk though.
I support LTC and wouldn't have done it..
I would not risk my home or other coveted valuables on Altcoins.
Hell i'd never invest real money at all in this crap.
And i made 12,000.00 in total so far roughly (but quit trading)

Hate to remind you all again but i am in a league far higher than you fucking noobs.

I took 0 cents and 0 cents and rubbed it together and made 12 fucking grand.
sooooooooo many fucking trades in a few months ..arb'ing / flipping coins on Exchanges.
My first big milestone was when i got 1 Litecoin.. i was proud !
Back then they were worth around a couple bucks i think.

That my profiteer friends is not comparable with taking money from Mommy and buying shitcoins with FIAT then trading and bragging about leet profits.
Or some rich cunt using 100k to trade and then beatin' off bragging about his leet ROI'z.

I make money out of thin air mother fuckers  Cool

Translation:
Blah blah blah.. something about Litecoin.. you are all noobs and i am awesome so fuck you Wink

Care to share some wisdom for us newbies?

Re: How do I "Do my own research"
by
JapieAmerika
on 19/05/2017, 07:58:27 UTC
Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to this new world of crypto. I dove in head first a few weeks ago, learning about cryptocurrencies and how they work, how the blockchain technology works, reading Nakamoto's Whitepaper. And being a computer science major its all really interesting to me.

Deciding mining coins wasn't for me, I decided the best route for me would be to invest and make my money work for me since I'm single and in college and don't have anything to lose haha.

After reading up on ICOs in the Announcements part of the altcoins subforum the main thing that I'm seeing when people ask for advice on whether to buy in on the coin or not is to "Do your research." Yesterday someone came into a Slack channel that I was in and was all, "This ICO starts in 5 minutes tell me why I should invest in this coin." And after people emploring him to read the Whitepaper, he says, "I don't have time to read, money is too valuable." Which made me chuckle.

After doing some google-fu and youtube videos, this is what I was able to compile when doing research on what to look for before making a decision on investing in an ICO:

Team

  - Open Identities with social media, videos explaining the ICO
  - Experience

Whitepaper

  - Solution to existing problem presented in the details
  - No "water" sentences and is all essence
  - Economic sphere and market review with economic and market data
  - Includes code or technical details

Business Idea

  - The idea can be implemented in reality
  - Detailed, well-thought out economic plan
  - Roadmap is adequate and logical
  - Do your own market research

Competition

  - Existing players that don't use blockchain technology advantages
  - Competitors that are coming to market w/ blockchain tech
  - Ability to compete w/ a monopoly (e.g. Wikipedia)

Working Prototype

  - Existing working prototype
  - Lots of finished work before IPO
  - Competitive product

Token Characteristics

  - Supply characteristics
  - Are tokens being churned out after the IPO? Inflation?
  - Percentage distributed to investors vs. developers
  - 70% TO 80% is ideal
  - Does it have inner value? Better if token can be used inside of project.

Look at

  - Idea Quality
  - Website Quality
  - Dev Team Quality
    - Direct social media to reach team members
    - What company is behind it
  - History
    - Team member experience
    - Company experience
    - Background
  - Solid roadmap
  - Make sure devs aren't previous scammers and the project is legit

Red flags

  - Devs anonymous/unknown
  - No escrow wallet
  - Unrealistic/unclear goals
  - Lack of transparency, no work-in-progress
  - Don't release code snippets, demo/beta version of their product
  - No behind the scenes videos

I would really appreciate anything you guys have to add and I look forward to learning from you guys during my time here.  Grin Grin Grin

This is really a good summary of the investigation and research one has to do in order to enlighten yourself before jumping in to investing into a coin. Although I think a lot of people speculate on the short term (intra day) and therefore don't do this at all.
