This doesn't work for markets with different currencies.

This chart shows a table of all the orders. The actual graphs don't really work that well, and never seem to show an appropriate range of orders.

Customizing Bitcoin Charts
by
JellyfishRancher
on 16/06/2011, 16:03:34 UTC
Is there any way to customize Bitcoin Charts to only show the markets I care about? I am invested in a few markets, but sometimes it can be hard to find them will all the clutter. For example, I don't care about any market that trades EUR, or the Virwox market. Maybe my preferred viewing settings could be stored in a cookie, or we could make accounts through Bitcoin Charts? Is there already some way to do this?

Maybe I should be using a different charting site altogether, but I like the features that Bitcoin Charts has.

Re: Very large wallet -- with lulz input

Let's say it is discovered that this wallet contains stolen bitcoins from several forum users. How could they retrieve the coins? Is it ethical to put a freeze on the coins at exchanges, if this were possible?

Perhaps the best course of action would be to try to steal the wallet back, vigilante style, then return the coins to their rightful owners according to the block chain. Less some bounty of course.

Based on the current market depth, buying $250k worth of BTC on mtgox would drive the price up to almost $24!

This is really not a good idea. Haven't you seen all the threads about paypal scams the past two weeks? Not to mention the fact that you don't have a real domain.

Once you spend out of a wallet, though, won't it be obvious that wallet is real? And why do you need this plausible deniability in the first place?

The original poster. I completely agree with your post, and I love the volatility! If you want something less crazy go buy CDs!

Jesus, no need to be so dramatic. The price fluctuates, it's a thinly traded market, calm down.

Re: Has Bitcoin survived its first bubble?

Bubble? Bitcoins are trading at the same price they were 2 weeks ago (at least it was last night, as I type this the price is already back up to $20...). I think this should be considered normal market volatility more than anything like a bubble burst.

I almost feel like "bubble" is now just a buzzword that was mentioned on the forums a few times and now all these people that know nothing about markets are repeating it ad nauseum.

People who became interested in bitcoins after all the SR press will not have their funds ready to trade until Monday -- I know because I am in this exact situation, eagerly waiting for my Dwolla bank transfer to go through tomorrow.

Ok, fair point. It does promote adaption of the currency.

But when it's done at the expense of 'real' withdrawal methods it's strange to say the least.

You are effectively limited to some prepaid credit card, and dwolla, if you actually want to cash out.
True, I'm not sure why they offered normal methods of withdrawal at first and now they're all gone. The only thing I can think of is that they received far more attention than they expected and couldn't get everything working properly right from the start. Remember, TradeHill has only been open a few days so far -- they don't even have a working market data API yet. I'm sure the bank transfer withdrawal option will be back soon.

Farmville? Really?
This doesn't convey a particularly professional image when compared to Mt. Gox.
Perhaps not to a speculative trader, but to the average Joe this might make the market seem more accessible. I think TradeHill is doing its part to demystify bitcoins for the average user.

Re: What is your current BTC situation?
by
JellyfishRancher
on 12/06/2011, 15:01:08 UTC
I'm not in US so transfering money is difficult in the inmediate but I would love to so as to Buy some. Thow I believe it will that a reasonable price for a stormy bitcoin situation is about 9us. I'm absolutely sure Bitcoins are a good investment because is a solid proyect but I guess this fluctation will have bad media for some time. This might afect future pricing too thow big speculators might have gone by then.
I recomend you to watch http://www.livebitcointicker.com/ .

Aren't the Buy / Sell prices mixed up..?

The buy price should always be higher than the sell price and visa versa.

Great find though!
If the buy price were above the sell price, a trade would take place until there is a gap between buy and sell. So the buy price will always be below the sell price.

In order to make a buy, which drive the price back up, someone has to be selling. If no one were selling, you couldn't buy your cheap bitcoins. Everyone has their own reasons for getting into and out of the market. So don't judge them for selling, just be grateful for buying them all up!
