There is currently an insane disconnect between the price at Bitstamp and Mtgox. For most of the day the price different has been around $30, now it's about $7. A bunch of huge, completely irrational buys from some very unusual folks putting in big orders at a massively inflated price.

The volume has fallen 25% in one day and yet some of you believe this bubble isn't about to collapse?
I haven't seen a check since the 80ies, except one. Got one in return from some USSAnian scammer company. I was told by my bank I had to travel to USSA to cash it in. Would you be happy if you got a check which you had to travel to Japan to cash in? Probably cheaper to take the 5% option.
Sturle, you keep mentioning this 5% emergency withdrawal option, but not a single person on this site has been able to provide any evidence for it. Further, if such an option existed, it would currently be quite profitable as the spread between other sites and Mtgox is over 5%.
See previous pages of this thread for first hand reports of emergency withdrawals.
I have. The only person I have seen mentioning it really is you. Show people how to get one of these supposed emergency withdrawals or stop spreading this FUD.
I guess it's possible that my overall balances somehow make me a preferred customer but are you trying to say Gox isn't? So two possibilities exist. Either they are doing it on purpose and lying about limits that don't exist or their bank really put in those limits because they see their money flows and balance sheet and think they are at risk. Both scenarios are a bit worrisome.
Both scenarios are a bit far fetched. The limit has been the same since MtGox got that Polish bank account in 2011. Judging by the price difference ein EUR/BTC vs USD/BTC, much more money has gone in through that account than out. Why would their bank lie about the limit, btw?
I said gox might be lying not the bank.
The limit was revealed by their bank when someone called them. I don't think MtGox has published their limit.

Also why can't they mail checks out if they have a wire limit? International checks take a few weeks to clear but it won't be months. Or are you saying there's a limit on how many checks their printer can print in a day?

Artificially kept high by Mtgox's insolvency.

Re: Bill Gates: "Bitcoin is a techno tour de force."
Bill Gates will convert 50% of his wealth into bitcoins soon. What price should we expect?
$3125 (injecting that amount of $$ into the Bitcoin market would result in this price)
Right now, someone with about $10 million could push the price above $1000 on Mtgox.

Some seemingly reputable people have alleged in the Service Discussion forum that Mtgox processes supposed Emergency transfers that take a 5% cut. I have seen no evidence for this.

This bizarre little mini-crash that happened today is the result of two events:
1) The 5k buy at Mtgox yesterday pushing the price to $148.9 and then creeping back to where it was before, $143.
2) The huge 2k ask wall that one or two creeps put up at Bitistamp around $131 for no good reason. Perhaps it was someone cashing out of Mtgox. Either way, it pushed all the prices down at Bitstamp even when Mtgox was steady at around $143-144.

Satoshi has more than a million bitcoin last I checked. That's almost 10%.
I just sent one coin to another 20 minutes ago and it has not appeared on the blockchain despite two blocks mined in that time.

Considering that Mtgox hasn't processed any USD withdrawals for over a month and Karpeles is simply lying about that suggests to me that there are serious, serious issues at Mtgox. I wouldn't be surprised if Karpeles takes the money and runs.
I don't intend to open it. The box will arrive in the same condition it came to me in.
Comes with a power supply.

You can read about all the troubles with Mtgox in the Service Discussion forum. My advice would be for you to move your money from one exchange to another and cash out. You might also want to consider localbitcoins.com.
