My take is somewhat slightly different. Congratulations all KNC customers you have successfully financed one of the largest private bitcoin mining operations in the world.

Wise this newbie is!

And to think at one point I suspected you were a crazy conspiracy theorists. Tuens out you were right on.

Explains why the network difficulty has had such major increases while KNC and Cointerra weren't shipping. I knew antminers were selling fast, but yeah, there's out network protection plan, or for KNC a Netowk Pock Plan, just pocket their share of the network. Nice way to announce that they are completely screwing their early adopters by hashing well above 5% against them, just sell it to your "plan B" company and now they're a customer. Isn't "plan B" usually scrap the place and get out?

I've been predicting their future behaviour based on their past behaviour.

They usually go dead silent when they are fucking people over. That's their typical behaviour, proved many times before.

They were dead silent at the end of September. They were dead silent coming up to the 15th October. They were dead silent about November Jupiter's delays until the day they were supposed to start shipping them.

The last two months of silence - you could be sure they were planning something mega shitty Grin

Just a matter of piecing together the byteminr announcement in December to their hardware supplier to guess what that was.

And yes, this certainly explains the major difficulty rises in December etc. It could only have been caused by a major asic company shipping high hashrate machines in bulk.

My take is somewhat slightly different. Congratulations all KNC customers you have successfully financed one of the largest private bitcoin mining operations in the world.

I too am frustrated by not right now having new KnC gear hashing.  Thing is I look at my Neptune pre-order and look at the present relative superiority of Jupiters over the competition and the Jupiter profitability track record, and I expect the Neptune will have a similar relationship to the competition when it fields.

That's not to say all of us might not get screwed, KnC machine owners somewhat less than others.  Screwed if dark horse mining farms get super cheap gear of their own manufacture in an overwhelming way.

So, what would be the alternative?  Leave mining and buy btc for its appreciation?  We know the banks aren't going to quit scamming the general public with currency expansion.  We know peace isn't going to reign on into the far foreseeable future, Syria and the Sudan not withstanding, and that would mean money movement into Bitcoin.  Some questions are: a) how long do we have to wait for KnC gear, b) will all the KnC gear made available be sold to pre-existing customers or will the numbers of miners be such that it will be open to the general public.  Like those dark horse mining farms turning their btc into Neptune purchases, c) how bad will the network hashrate get and how soon?

Sorry but KNC miners gear is vastly inefficient compared to some other devices out there. A good 28nm chip design should take anywhere from 1-2 years not 7-8 months. But as Bitcointalk is mostly a marketing forum the idea of having the first 28nm is was better than actually having an efficient well designed machine.

Also, I very much doubt KNC will be hosting in the future as there previous design in terms of thermodynamics etc. was woefully lacking, thats why there were delays for the hosted miners.

Doesn't matter, when new knc arrives in March, ghash will be nothing. There are no incumbents in Bitcoin

LOL, in March!

the rpcminer gives me a rate of ~2000 khash/s
does it even worth or not?

How are you getting 2,000 khash/s from a CPU?  What CPU is it and how many cores?

It would be easy to make fun of this  . . . the clock speed of your CPU is different from 2,000khs. There is a difference between CPU computer speed and mining speed.
