This would really look good on one those hipster cafes that want to exude a darkly lit speakeasy vibe to their shops. Pretty awesome project and hopefully, you'll find the demand for this because if many of us here find it cool, then there's someone out there that's going to be looking out for it.
Thank you so much for your constructive feedback. That is EXACTLY what I am thinking of myself. I plan on taking one to the Pubkey in NYC at the end of the month. Hopefully they think the idea is worth buying a few.

The idea is cool, it is not aesthetically pleasing but i am certain the idea wasn't for it to be. If i had such i wouldn't put it in the living-room, my visitors would be confused about what's hanging above their head and most of them are not bitcoiners. This would be nice to have in a personal office or man cave, especially where you do BTC work or stuff; good job.
Thanks so much for your feedback. I envision this in more of a garage or workshop space where guys hang out, drink beer, and talk about bitcoin. I will post as soon as I have more updates on the project and can make it more of a home-office piece as well as good enough for your garage.

Rather than waste and throwing it in the trash, this is a better alternative. Recycle uses like this is a great way to save cost and show creativity at the same time. Many people unfortunately do not see things this way, and that is why they are usually very quick to dispose of any item that they see as no longer useful in their homes.

I think this is a great use for an old miner. I also think some people are looking for more of a modern industrial chic look than years past. I will see how the market reacts and adjust as needed.

It's something that I'd love to have in my man cave, but if I were you, I'd probably try to add rechargeable batteries in the next iteration of the S9 lamp to make it cordless

I'm not a fan of the $50 difference between the standard version and the plus version, but if its price doesn't exceed $200 with the addition of the components that I mentioned, I think you'll be able to sell more.

Thanks for the feedback. I am having issues sourcing S9s in good enough shape but I am also working to bring the price point to $100 for the Plus+ version. Hopefully, I can get something made up that the entire space thinks is cool enough to have in their workshop or citadel caves.

Doesn't produce much light and looks very industrial. Maybe if you're lighting a work room/office space, or some hardware store... For a living room it's not pretty enough and feels like you hanged some junk there. I mean there are much better looking industrial lamps if that's what you're aiming at. Not to shit on your effort, because the idea was good, but I just don't feel the vibe. It's like hanging an old printer with a bulb inside and calling it a lamp.

It definitely produces a softer light but it lights up my office quite nicely. The idea is for it to look kind of cypherpunk so it wouldn't go in a living room but probably as a light in your garage. workshop, or man cave where you build bitcoin stuff.

I appreciate your honest feedback. I guess it's not for everyone.

...but I think it would look much better if it were laid horizontally with a slight downward slope so that it looked like a spotlight.

A few dozen of these with flashing lights in colors and you can make a disco for all former and current miners Wink

Thanks a bunch for your feedback. I will see what I can do to make some different iterations where they can be used as a spotlight like you're saying.

Cool project. Although i wonder how heavy is it after you replace unused parts with the lamp. I have concern the carabiner isn't durable enough for hanging stuff 24/7.

The empty miner shell is made of aluminum so it's actually really light. I just used a floor scale to weigh it and it says 2.4 pounds which is just over 1 kg at 1088.622 grams. I don't have any concerns about it falling down and if ever I do, I would just use some more robust mounting hardware.

You are more than qualified to post images. From Jnr member and above, you can post images on the forum. If you really want to, you can use TalkImg and reupload the image and edit your post to add the link and make it visible.
Thanks a bunch. That's the first time I have heard of this resource. I have it bookmarked and will be sure to use it more from now on.

I bought an old S9 last year so I could take some pics and upload them to my Unsplash profile so the world has access to more royalty-free bitcoin images.

After I got a few pics uploaded, I decided to turn the old housing into a lamp and hang it from my ceiling. Naturally, anyone can make their own but I decided to sell them on Geyser to see if there's enough demand for people who want one hanging in their own house, garage, workshop, office, etc.

I don't think I have enough merit to post images on here yet but I made a post on stacker news about it so you can see what it looks like.

What do you think, plebs?

Re: How to hold Bitcoin for long term without being tempted to sell.
by

Holding Bitcoin for the long term without being tempted to sell is very difficult it requires a combination of mindset, strategy, and security measures to be able to hold for a very long period of time, below are some measures that will help you.

6. Time-Locking Solutions.
Some platforms allow you to lock up Bitcoin for a specified period to prevent impulsive decisions.
This will really help you, when you have set out plan to hold for 10 years and you lock it for that 10 years you can only deposit more Bitcoin but  you cannot withdraw or sell it till that 10 years is over.

I think this is possibly the best solution for people who don't have the discipline to HODL for the long term. Sparrow Wallet (https://sparrowwallet.com) has the option to use timelocks and they're very easy to use. This is how I would help new users who want to HODL for like a decade. They still need to write their seed phrase down and store it somewhere safe but that is already common practice.

Re: The EUSSR hates bitcoin

Europe has long been heavy handed with their regulations but that doesn't stop a math equation.

The game theory of bitcoin holdings is just getting started. Large companies and nation states are just starting to enter the ring. Let's see which European nations decide to open up their economies to the best money in history.

I don't think the US will do anything meaningful anytime soon but if they do, I don't think Europe will stand by completely idle while the rest of the world adopts a system that greatly benefits their people.

Only time will tell but as long as we can self-custody our own sats, the ECB and Lagarde will do everything to stifle EU bitcoin adoption.

Rizful Lightning Node
by
Jon_Hodl
on 31/01/2025, 18:21:56 UTC
Rizful is a tool I recently found Stacker News that I think has a LOT of potential for bitcoiners of all kinds. Basically it is a service for instant and disposable lightning nodes.

This could be really helpful for people who travel a lot or who live a more nomadic lifestyle and accessing your own node might not be very easy. If you're new to lightning and want to learn how it works without having to run your own node and manually manage liquidity, Rizful is probably the best tool I have found on the internet.

Re: Michael Saylor advices never to sell bitcoin...
by
Jon_Hodl
on 11/12/2024, 18:37:02 UTC
With Saylor buying as much as he does, it is only becoming more and more important for everyone to buy as much bitcoin as possible and move to cold storage as soon as possible.

Every sat that we control is a sat that can't be used to issue more paper bitcoin IOUs on centralized services like Coinbase.

Buy bitcoin. Move to cold storage. Never sell. Only spend.

Re: Bhutan government off-loading 400++ BTC
by

They've been mining for years so maybe now is a good time to spend some of it on government services that benefit the people.

As price continues to climb, so will the pressure for miners to sell their holdings to OTC counters. This might be exactly what Bhutan is doing.

Re: Does the DCA strategy inspire newbies to invest?
by
Jon_Hodl
on 29/11/2024, 21:53:52 UTC
Yes, Bitcoiners who have not yet reached their point of conviction should just stick to DCA while they continue to learn.

As soon as you come to the realization that bitcoin is the apex asset class, you will want to do nothing but smash buy whenever you get money. DCA is for those who do not yet understand the paradigm shift that is bitcoin.

Re: Best trading advice for a beginner
by
Jon_Hodl
on 29/11/2024, 02:12:06 UTC
What advice would you give a newbie that started trading?
The only trade you should concern yourself with is trading your shitty fiat currency for bitcoin and then saving it for 10+ years.

Quote
Let's say he has decided to leave his comfort zone and get his hands on the it.
Are there pitfalls to avoid?
Yes. Avoid shitcoins and thinking that you can make money trading. Just stack sats and hodl for 10+ years.

Quote
Where is the best place to get started with?
Just buy some sats and HODL while you continue to learn.

Quote
Any materials to help grasp the concept faster?
Yes. Here are 21 tools to orange pill yourself: https://www.whatisbitcoin.com/culture/tools-to-orange-pill-friends-family

Quote
Do you mind giving hints on what helped you scale through in your early beginning?
I just bought, moved to a paper wallet, and then let it sit for a long time. It's this simple.

Re: Why is Microstrategy vilified by some?
by
Jon_Hodl
on 29/11/2024, 02:07:20 UTC
Not by no-coiners or people who missed buying the dip, but actual HODLers like us.

Even though Michael Saylor is buying as much bitcoin as he can, some people don't seem to like him at all, and it shows for example on Telegram channels and sometimes X/Twitter.
I am one of the HODLers who is "vilifying" Saylor. It's not about sideline FOMO cause I have been stacking since before Saylor but I am genuinely concerned that he is leading people to their doom and here's why.

Saylor sells shares in his company to buy bitcoin but he seems to be leading people to buying his stock instead of buying (and self-custodying) bitcoin. In fact, he even vilified us self-custody maximalists as "paranoid crypto anarchists" for wanting to control our own keys.

Why would people want to buy the thing that Saylor is dumping so that he can buy more bitcoin?

Why wouldn't they just buy the bitcoin (and control the private keys) since he openly claims that "there is no second best"?

It seems to me that he leads a lot of supposed bitcoin maxis to buy his derivative shitcoin MSTR instead of buying bitcoin and moving it to cold storage. That is antithetical to p2p electronic cash.

Happy to hear any pushback on this but until Saylor can cryptographically prove that he actually owns the bitcoin that he claims to own, then he is only leading his followers into a custodial rug pull like we have seen with countless platforms from Mt. Gox all the way to FTX.

Re: Bitcoin from ATM without KYC
by
Jon_Hodl
on 28/11/2024, 20:45:20 UTC
Now he is wondering whether he might get problems cashing out in the future.
Switzerland is not as crazy with KYC and chain analysis as the United States. As long as there is no reported illegal activity associated with the address that he sent to, he won't have any problem selling for fiat in the future.

If he wants to sell it without any KYC, he might consider using a service like Bisq or RoboSats when he is ready to sell.
