Are you actually defending him stealing? Wow, as if his circumstance might somehow make it ok to steal??
You are also a scumbag.

I'm defending him, I'm not defending stealing. Big difference. What I was said is that you don't know his situation. You don't know that he is stealing electricity. It was quite obvious that his "sticking it to the man" quote was a joke.

Call me what you want, I'm not going to get into a flame war with you. You're nobody to me and I personally don't care what your opinion of me is. You're off topic. He wanted advice about buying a jalapeno. He wasn't asking if you thought he was a scumbag.

OP, there are mining calculators on the internet. You've probably used them already. It'll take you a very long time to get a bitcoin by mining with a jalapeno but don't worry about that. If you want to do it, and you can afford it, just do it.

What are my thoughts ?
You will never make 350$ back with jalepeno , and stealing electricity from a business , and or taxpayers in the case you work for the government just makes you a fucking scumbag.
Even if you work for a bank , who is in fact the man, your still a scumbag for stealing.

Wow, some people here are real assholes.

Ain't that the truth. Gopher09 has no idea who OP is or what OPs personal situation is.

OP, if you want to buy the jalapeno, and you can afford to spend the money, my opinion is to do it. Buy it, plug it in, watch it chug away. You seem like you want to get into mining and I think you should. Get into it. Get your feet wet and have fun. Learn all you can about mining and the bitcoin network. Earn some bitcoin and then spend it. Give it away. Buy some, sell some, save some, get active in the bitcoin community. Talk to your friends about it. Talk to your family about it. Spread the word. Get others interested in bitcoin. Just don't expect to get rich mining, it won't happen. Unless you plan on going balls deep and even then it's a risky move.

I see so many people on this forum telling people not to get into mining because it's not worth it anymore. I call bullsh!t on that. Miners secure the network, even the little guys like us. We contribute.

I don't think starting your own pool would be a good way to do this.

I agree with maardein on this one. Starting your own pool will be more trouble then it's worth.

Here's a link to the getting started page at wemineltc.com
https://www.wemineltc.com/gettingstarted

It's a great LTC pool if you decide to mine LTC. This link has some great "getting started" info that can be altered for whatever pool you decide to join. It also has download link for a stratum miner with some basic info on how to use it.

Hi,

I work in a Call Center as the TI admin.

These machines stay turned on from 23h to 8am just with screen saver. So I´d like to let them mining during this time.

As the computers r not very good to fight against ASICs miners to get Bitcoins, I have some questions:

 1) I think that should be better work with script coins. Am i right?

 2) If so, what coin (in your opinion) I should start mining?

 3) And what is the best software do mining the coin you suggested? (cpuminer, bfgminer, cgminer, etc...)

 4) I am working in a linux to be the pool server (P2Pool). Do you suggest another? (Windows / Linux)

I´m not english speaker, so I have some dificulties to understand ALL the details about cryptocurrency, but I am studying and count on you to help!

Thanks in advance!

Best regards!

Caio

Hi Manobra,

Since the 93 computers do not have good graphics cards you will need to mine with the CPU. Use cpuminer for that. Also, you should set up one of the computers as a stratum mining proxy. Find a scrypt altcoin pool to join and set up a unique username and password for each miner, this will take a while since you have so many computers. Then point your proxy at the pool and point your miners at your stratum proxy. Even if the version of cpuminer you use supports stratum I think it's still a good idea to run your own stratum proxy. This allows you the flexibility of changing pools quickly. Instead of changing each individual miner, you can just point your proxy to the new pool.

You may also want to check with the pool admin first and make sure they allow that many workers. Some pools may suspect you of running a botnet. I use wemineltc.com and I believe they allow up to 100 but will allow more if you put in a request.

I think you should stay away from mining any sha256 coins and stick with scrypt but that's just my opinion. I suggest trying a few different coins and stick with what you like.

Update: I see now it is perfect money you accept, I still feel you could use a little more on the "how it works" aspect I think.

Looks promising, but you might want a brief overview somewhere on exactly how it works. For example, do you take PayPal for the Crypto's you list? I get the impression that is how it works from your post here but not from anything I seen on the site. I did see a chat invitation pop up though, perhaps it gets explained better then.

much thanks!

I completely agree with Number6. you really need to explain the site a little better with a brief overview of how it works. I would be hesitant to send any coins your way, how do we know we can trust you? I surely would not give you my personal info, such as home address and real name without a way of confirming your trustworthiness.

Thank you! I already have two BAMT boxes mining LTC but I haven't been able to get the munin graphs to populate correctly on either of them. From the screenshots on your website it looks like the graphing will work perfectly right out of the box.

Use cgminer, it has pool failover

I appreciate the tip. I switched one of my workers to BMAT and I use cgminer. It was a little difficult to get it up and running since BAMT was designed for mining BTC but I worked out the kinks. I have a backup pool set in cgminer. My primary pool hasn't gone down yet, at least not that I'm aware of, but if it does go down cgminer should fail over to my secondary pool.

I'm still pretty new to mining only been mining for a month or so and I've tried quite a few pools. I finally settled on coinotron and burnsides pool. I distribute my workers/hashing equally among the two. Seems to me that distributing your hashing between at least two pools is a smart move since every pool I've tried so far has had issues of one sort or another. Its sucks waking up in the morning finding out your workers have been sitting idle for the past 7 hours because the pool is down. I'm sure there are ways to set your workers to switch to a backup pool if the primary pool goes down but I haven't figured out how yet.

Have you tried eBay? PayPal is accepted there. I bought my first. 5 bitcoin there. I overpaid a little at the the time but I needed somebody to send me a bitcoin so I had a better understanding of how it worked. I also see sellers selling litecoin there too although I haven't bought any of those.

Re: Best OS to mine bitcoins?

I mine with a windows box and a debian box and it seems to me that windows was easiest to set up. I think due to the fact that I was able to find more up to date documentation for windows when I ran into issues. As far as hash rates, they're very similar. I've only been mining a few weeks and haven't had any crashes on either OS yet so I can't really speak to stability.

Hello all! I'm basically new to crypto-currency. I first heard of bitcoin a couple of years ago but (sadly) didn't pay much attention to it. 4 weeks ago I started seeing more and more articles on bitcoin and other crypto currencies and 3 weeks ago I bought my first .5 bitcoin for $29.00 on eBay. At the time a bitcoin was worth ~40 and I knew I was overpaying but after researching crypto coins more and more I became a believer and I needed somebody to send me a bitcoin so I could have a better understanding of the transaction process. A couple days later the whole "cyprus" bank bailout was announced, which I personally don't believe a bunch of cypriots moved their life savings into bitcoin but I do believe it was a catalyst that produced more exposure for bitcoin, I mean what better way to protect your wealth than crypto currency? I bought that .5 bitcoin at a good time because now it's worth ~$116. Not a bad return on a $29 investment but I don't plan on giving it up anytime soon. As a matter of fact, I've been researching the whole mining process and I was mining bitcoins for while but my hardware is insufficient to really make it worth it. I don't have much GPU power (yet) but I have a lot of CPU power so I decided to switch to litecoin mining and I'm doing quite well for a noob even with all the GPU bitcoin miners jumping ship and moving over to litecoin mining.  I use my litecoins to invest in more bitcoins and other coins also.

I plan to become more active in this community and I'm glad I'm here, I'm glad I found you guys. The world needs cryptocurrency. I would like to end this note on my favorite aspect of Bitcoin. Bitcoin does not let me spend more bitcoins than I have. Let me repeat that, I cannot spend more bitcoins than I have. Credit cards, bank overdraft charges, high interest rates, etc are tools used by banksters used to drain you of what little money the IRS lets you keep out of your paycheck. I have been trying to keep up with the Joneses for longer than I care to admit and have made many financial mistakes along the way by spending more money than I actually had and I'm still paying for it. I've always believed I needed the best car, the biggest house and the nicest clothes and I spent more money than I had trying to obtain them. Now I can't even get a loan with an incredibly high interest rate while my own government is trillions of dollars in debt. That's bullsh!t if you ask me.

Sorry guys, that's enough ranting for today. Thanks for listening if you've actually read this far.
