Sell your coins while you can, price is almost certain to correct by at least 50% over next few months.

I would buy another R606 like miner if it was developed, my R606 which i bought in 2019 still works after almost 2 years

Is it possible for the fan to fail during mining? If so will the unit power down automatically or will the mainboard continue to mine until it overheats and fails?

I tried that and it does not move from T 550.

I had the same issue as you before. You have a cgminer.conf file on your system somewhere which is overriding the command line. On a mac it is in a hidden .cgminer directory under the "users" folder. Not sure where it might be on windows or linux though. Once you find it change the "gekko-R606-freq" to whatever clock speed you want.

Hmm, everywhere in this thread talking about power for it says 12vdc @ 8A. Take a hint... Wink

Yes i am well aware of that. I already have a 12V 10A 120 watt power supply hooked up to my R606.

If you reread my question you can see if i am asking IF the R606 can function with a 24V 8A power supply. I thought it would be good to check with the manufacturer/reseller before hooking up random power bricks to my R606. The reason i am asking is that i want more power for overclocking without having to use a ATX power supply. The 12V 10A power supply is fine but it hits its limit if i cross the 575 mhz mark which basically means it is impossible for my R606 to get any higher than ~770 Gh/s.

My command line is:

Code:
cgminer --gekko-r606-freq 600

I am using a MacBook running Mac OS 10.13 as the controller.

The power supply is 120 watts. 12V 10A.

I am currently getting a stable 740 Gh/s mining on slush.

Re: Why is Bitcoin market dominance rising fast?
by
K21000

Because the market is correcting. If you go back and look at the BTC dominance pre-2016 you will see ~80% dominance for BTC used to be the norm. Now that alt coin pump is dying down things are going back to the way they were pre-2016.

But even if you give them opportunity for that, what most of them do is to mess up - 2015 price of 1 BTC was even below $200, two years later $20 000 and how many of us get rich after that?

There are actually quite a few people that bought in 2015 and sold in 2017 at all time high of $20000. Some of these people got "rich" but the majority of them are people like myself who made a good amount of profit but not millionaire. It took real guts to invest in 2015 when market was in bear mode so it is rather amusing to see all these comments saying they would have bought in 2015 because I know for a fact that 99% of them would have backed away from such a risky investment especially at a time when crypto's future was in doubt.

How do I get the R606 to run beyond 550 mhz? Even though I specify a target frequency of 600 mhz it refuses to go past 550 mhz. I have a 120 watt power supply so that is definitely not the issue.

I haven't gotten around to adjusting the parts needed for the R606 to run on macOS yet.

If you want it to try to run it there, you'll need to make an adjustment to use the R606 branch:

Code:
curl -o cgminer.rb "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/vthoang/homebrew-cgminer/master/cgminer.rb"

edit the cgminer.rb file and change branch from 'master' to 'r606'

followed with:

Code:
brew install --build-from-source ./cgminer.rb

I'll get around to testing that when the branch gets merged back.   At which point it should mostly fix itself.

I got around to trying this today and i can confirm this works. As of now my R606 is hashing at a stable 740 ghs under mac os 10.13

Full order of commands needed to get R606 to work on mac:

Code:
curl -o cgminer.rb "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/vthoang/homebrew-cgminer/master/cgminer.rb"

Followed by:

Code:
nano cgminer.rb

Change the value of branch in the file to "R606" and save then exit.

Then build from source by running:

Code:
brew install --build-from-source ./cgminer.rb

Is there a way to disable the autotune frequency setting for the R606?

Iran has legalised mining when crypto market is contracting and BTC/LTC block halving is coming up......a bit late to the party? Time to do this would have been in 2013-2014 when mining farms were springing up all over the world (mostly in china though...) .

Re: The crash of BTC price
by

BTC price goes up and down due to supply and demand. The price of bitcoin is falling a bit because demand is dropping, it does not mean bitcoin is "crashing". No need for alarmist thread titles like this......

I don't think libra has/will have too much of a impact on bitcoins price. One is a centralised company coin the other is the worlds first decentralised cryptocurrency, they are two completely different things.

Re: Bitcoin dominance hits 66.5%, alts lagging behind
by
K21000
on 17/07/2019, 11:35:56 UTC
Lol 65% dominance for bitcoin is nothing historically speaking. Prior to 2017 80% dominance for BTC was the norm. I remember at one point in 2015 it went as high as 92%.....

well the number of shitcoins in circulation in 2015 was 1/15 of the current amount. so when the number of shitcoins grew and people started to care about market capitalization silly things such as "dominance" started shaping up and with nearly 3000 shitcoins in circulation today that percentage which has nothing to do with dominance came down!
and the funny thing is as these shitcoins started to die and the number started dropping from 3000 down to 2100ish, that meaningless percentage started growing.

so if anything this percentage is only showing the number of shitcoins in circulation Cheesy

Exactly. The biggest reason why BTC dominance has been so low over the past few years is because the market has been flooded with shitcoins with artificially high marketcaps. Now that this is being corrected by the market a clearer picture of what BTC's real dominance always has been and continues to be is coming back into focus.

Re: Cryptocurrency are gonna disappear
by
K21000
on 17/07/2019, 07:46:23 UTC
you can't shut down something that is decentralized and make it disappear as long as people find it useful and continue using it. which is true about bitcoin. it is like saying torrent network will disappear but peer to peer connections will remain! you can't shut down torrent network since it consists of peers connecting to each other and sharing file. bitcoin is a much stronger implementation of a decentralized peer to peer network.

what will disappear is two things: 1. the altcoins without usage that keep being created even if they have the biggest market cap among altcoins 2. the government and bank issue tokens that are more centralized than anything else.

LibertyReserve ?

Highly decentralized it was

shut down ...

Libertyreserve was never decentralised. It had central servers which could easily be targeted and shut down. The beauty of a peer to peer network like bitcoin is that their is nobody to target and nothing to shut down.
