Re: Mobo, PSU burned out
by

Hi,
i've been arount these forums lurking for a while just never registered/posted anything. This is what happened to me and was wondering if anyone had a similar experience or know which would cause this - bad mobo or bad PSU. Motherboard is Asrock 970 Extreme 4 and the psu is Corsair HX 1050W. It was running 5*7870 and power consumption measured at the socket was 960-980W and 4-5A current. It was running fine for about 2 months untill yesterday Smiley I only noticed because my miners went offline, but the fans on GPU's kept running and the PSU still turns on.

5 * 7870 was bad idea, are they overclocked or overvolted?

Try disabling the DWM (Destop Window Manager Service) I hear that some people crash with it on (i personally do not mine LTC)
However the error Clearly states that its Allegedly your video drivers crashing/overloading/restarting/rebooting, Have you tried reducing the inensity? Try some default settings or a lower overclock (LTC uses memclock)

i reduced intensity to 10 but still had same issue. I am at loss about this...
Have you stress tested your card to see if it isnt just CGMiner?

I just want to say HI and want to ask for some help with building my mining Rig Smiley

My Setup for beginning:

ASRock MB-970EX4 w/ cheap AMD CPU
A bit of Ram like 4 or 8Gigabyte
2x or 3x ATI 7770 or something else.

Could someone say me if this would be profitable?

Cheers!
With the 7770s you would get around 250 Mh/s: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison
I would recommend a couple of ATI 7950s: http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Mini-Displayport-PCI-Express-Graphic-GV-R795WF3-3GD/dp/B007581QHG

Re: Question on BTC Guild (Please Help)

Just started on BTC Guild, and have a question.

How do you accept a share? Is there any notification when you get one? How do I do this?

Thanks,
-Bodie01
Your mining software should have a count like A:293 which is what you would see with CGMiner.

Sorry, I ment how much better is is over the 7950.

WHy should I stick with a 7950?? the GTX-680 seems better please explain?
AMD cards are better for mining than NVIDIA cards they get more hashes.

Thanks,

so my next question is, is there a better AMD card than the 7950 for a beginner Like myself that can later be connected together.
There is no need for connecting the cards together (crossfire) you just need to put them in the pci-express slots and plug the power cables in and your set. I would recommend the 7950.

So it started yesterday and since then I have had 3 or 4 BSOD with atikmpag.sys and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with it. It only seems to happen when my 7970 is mining if I just have my 2 7950s mining its fine. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7kwmb8xr76a57wq/20130610_104220.jpg. Could it be cause by over heating or not properly shutting down guiminer?
Its either your motherboard or the cards

Do a stress test:
http://www.ocbase.com/index.php/download

If it passes:
Then go to the manufacturers website for your motherboard and make sure your BIOS is the latest version.

I would assume I need to run the GPU stress test?
Yes, that is correct.

Re: GUI Miner 0 Shares
by
Kaepora
on 10/06/2013, 17:48:05 UTC
Hi there, I know that this has probably been mentioned elsewhere on the forums, but I thought that I may as well create a topic asking about it while I delve in and sift through all of the information provided.

I'm currently using GUI miner and have connected to various different pools, but each one that I'm connected to will not generate any shares, most of the time it won't even create stale shares (It will sometimes create a stale share upon connecting to a pool, but at no other time) which is a little bit of a problem.

I'm currently using a AMD Radeon HD 6670 to mine with and get a pretty stable rate of 95 Mhash/s and after being connected to Slush's pool for about 8 hours last night it hasn't given me a single share. Now a friend of mine who began mining at the same time as me said she was connected to BTCMP and had roughly 200 shares with only 17 Mhash/s

The question I'm asking is are there any general sort of fixes for this problem, or if there aren't, what information should I provide to help fix it?

EDIT: There's also the large possibility that I'm just being far too impatient and if I am, just tell me!  Tongue
Please post your settings & connection info. Also open a new tab in GUIMiner go to view-> show console. Start mining and go check that and see what kind of messages you see also.

I jsu registered 2 days and I checked out some site to get free bitcoin but i still i have no idea how it works.
and what's with the mining thing?
how does it work? Embarrassed Grin
Welcome,
You use hardware to mine which is in really basic terms like doing math depending on how many you get per second that is how many hashes you get.
People use software such as CGMiner to mine: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=28402.msg2397710#msg2397710

Re: What lies beyond ASICs?

Without getting too far ahead of ourselves, I am curious what the next big move in mining hardware will be.  I had a few conversations with bitcoin enthusiasts at Bitcoin 2013, but no one had a clear answer.  My nascent thoughts lead me to believe that quantum computing may lead to faster mining.  Although the company D-Wave manufactures quantum computers, they are very expensive at the moment which will make it difficult to develop mining software for these uber machines.
Moores law man, something with double the power will probably come out.

Thanks for the Answers till yet.

Yes i know some nVidias are not very profitable, but i mean it generally. if its a ATI or nVIDIA doesn't care Smiley

I was just wondering if there is a solution to put this Graphics external on a computer.....

No there isn't. Especially not USB.  Embarrassed

Hi,

I'm wondering how i could use some of my older GTXs in a profitable way? Is there a chance to plug it extern to a Computer and mine with it? I got only 1 PCIE Slot on my Mobo.

Cheers
Just about anything NVIDIA is not worth mining on, if its older its even worse. You will be wasting more on power than you make.

Re: [Mining] Sudden Weird Issues
by
Kaepora
on 09/06/2013, 17:12:45 UTC
Well, my intensity was 19. It didnt change between the sudden issues it started causing.

And that's the answer I've been looking for everywhere! Thanks! I will switch that one miner to CGMiner and let the rest sit with Reaper.

How come in CGMiner it says:
"Connected to us.wemineltc.com diff 128"
But then below it...
"Diff: 41.8M"

It seems to be completing shares of difficulty 128. But it takes 10-60 seconds each. Reaper on the same difficulty of shares submits every 1-5 seconds? Something is defiantly wrong still

Edit: On a side note, running CGMiner 3.10, as lots of the mining hardware comparisons suggest, all I get is hardware errors. I have been running 2.11~, as also suggested and this is where It has actually been working a bit
If you are getting HW errors you have an unstable overclock on your intensity is too high. I would reccomend CGMiner instead of the other.

I have added GUIMiner to my firewall, the only thing I haven't done is the latest driver from nVidia, not sure why it's looking for a java app?

Dont forget to make CUDAMINER tab and use that instead of cgminer.

i got about 2400 shares now and my ballence is now 0.00186213 BTC
It needs to hit 0.1 it may be a while, 400 Mh/s isnt very much and you have to factor in the Pool fee also.

should i switch pools to a better one? I was using slush's but everytime i try to connect it has problems

You might want to check out Bitminter:

You could even use their Java client to mine its really easy.
