Re: Any prediction for the Bitcoin?

Price predictions seem to be pure speculation, but the general trend should be increasing.
Too much negative press lately so, in order for it to go up largely, there will need to be a series of positive news.

Re: Do you like bitcoin, what's your reason?

I like bitcoin because it is making the banks shake in their boots a bit; in the meantime, it is also making it so banks are starting to allow easier and faster transfers of money; at least until cryptocurrencies take them over completely.

Re: Lost Bitcoins

There will be people that don't protect their coins and they will lose their bitcoins, but for those who are aware of the dangers and take the necessary precautions, they should have ample backups.  However, it is still possible for these individuals to meet an untimely end (hit by bus, stroke, heart attack, etc.) and have not yet set up plans to transfer their bitcoins to their heirs--or they may not have anyone to pass down their bitcoins to and in this case those bitcoins would be lost.

A 50% drop in about a week seems unlikely; especially since a lot of the news that made it drop in the first place is "old hat" at this point.

Can you transfer the balance to another credit card where they'll let you pay it off in a year?
If so, I would do that and start making monthly payments. Rinse and repeat with new credit cards until the full balance is paid off.

If you think BTC will recover, continue to hold the BTC.
If you think BTC will fall more, sell it off and take the loss.
If you think BTC will fall more, but then recover; sell it off and buy back so you increase your BTC holdings.

Want to buy ~3000000 (~3m) 808coin for ~$1000 in BTC, LTC, or ETH (the main coins on coinbase).

Cannot create a trade satoshi account at the moment (which looks like the only exchange that sells 808coin).

Re: I've made 600k in Crypto - When to call it quits

How much did you spend on the crypto?
Take at least double that in profits.

Both crypto and the stock market have gone up to unprecedented levels; I strongly
suspect a retraction will occur in both within 5 years, but timing the market is a
fools game.  Decide on your taking profit levels and stick to them.

With those gains, diversify further into assets that generate income monthly, e.g., bonds,
mutual funds that invest in bonds (Pimco & Vanguard have some decent funds here),
rental properties, etc.

If you want to remain in crypto, redistribute some of the remaining profits into
Proof of Stake coins (if ETH ever gets around to implementing it; that's probably
a good one)--this way all you need is to leave on your computer and it
will mine more coins for you (no ASIC hardware and massive amounts of power
required).

1. Crypto is probably the only place I'll get to be a millionaire ...
2. Loving all of these new coins that stake
3. Crypto is starting to take away some of the world's banks' power

Re: How can I buy bitcoin using dollar

If you're in the USA, www.coinbase.com is probably your best bet, they support credit cards, ACH, and wires for buying bitcoins with USD.

If you want to transfer to your own wallet, then use gdax.com (owned by coinbase) to move your BTC as they charge no fees (but if you transfer through coinbase, they will charge a fee).

Is it true that IOTA is the only crypto "quantum-proof"?
Just heard that in their bumph..
E

I think IOTA is only quantum resistant, quantum proof would be a whole level up (e.g., like the difference between products that are water resistant vs water proof).

QRL is another crypto that is quantum resistant; supposedly slightly more so than IOTA.

This seems like a bad idea--couldn't the original owner just come back and reclaim the account via email/account resets?

Re: Is Bitcoin truly decentralized?
by
Kahhar
on 10/01/2018, 18:48:14 UTC
I think the one point that prevents anything from being truly decentralized is finding peers--at some point you have to know (and trust?) at least one other peer.

I believe the current way that the bitcoin client finds its first peer is:
  1. IP addresses of well known nodes
  2. DNS seeding

It's possible that all of these IP addresses are offline and/or DNS address(es) stale; or worse: maliciously changed, so that you cannot get your first (good) peer.

Forgive me if this information is no longer correct, I am a noob.
