I just do easy step, i just looking at the top coin such as bitcoin and ethereum, i doubt to invest on another altcoin because crypto is unpredictable. I should see the potential of another coins if i want to invest on another coins.
Maybe, because when the risk are big, i'm sure the profit that will be gained also big, while the risks are small, the profit also small, we can see by amount of investment. When we invest much more, the risk are bigger and the profit that will we gain also big.

Yep. MEW + Ledger is ultimate combo.
When he steals your device you just need to use your seed to restore your wallet ( incl. funds).

Yes. It is HW (hardware wallet) ... for price check: https://www.ledgerwallet.com (once you have it usage is free)
I don't think it's necessary for ordinary users to have it. But it's great security for your funds so it's up to you. If you have lot of BTC (or other coins) I highly advise you to purchase some.
Alternatives are Trezor or keepkey.

quick advice: buy low, sell high 
and dont forget to hold or quick sell. but we need to be aware in trading when make decision. What will you do when you are in a bad mood?
