Another development team is working on a similar concept so I have been helping them brainstorm.

They will be releasing a pre-ann when they are ready, and have been doing a bit of development already as they are also working on something to promote people to travel.

I will be helping them with brainstorming, and will also try to get my graphics designer in contact.

Thank you all, I am glad I was able to get my idea out so it has a chance of becoming a reality.

After talking with some members of the community I have decided to push back this project.  I want to finish therapy (DBT) first and work on my graduate thesis (joke detection).  I will convert this project to a smaller project and continue developing it - making location based faucets for a coin that has already been developed.  The 'Landmark' project is one I want developed into a real product so I want to be able to work on it when I am more effective and have time.

I want this project to continue as it is a good idea, so if anyone want to take over I will gladly hand over the thread and concept art to whoever thinks this is a good idea.

There is the chance to build a real business model out of this coin and it would be fun just as it is.  I can imagine people will drive around to different cities and visit landmarks in their area just to get free coins.

Don't worry qiwoman, that was just a mockup my graphics artist made.  Every city will have a faucet as well as landmarks around the world.    We just happen to live in the Pacific NW so that is a good place to start.

It would be nice to find a list of landmarks with GPS coordinates so I can automate the faucet development, otherwise I will have to spend a bit of time doing research.
I do have a list of cities so I can build city based faucets automatically.

I will have to make it an open ended process where people can petition to have a landmark opened in case we miss any during development.

Business model:

All investors will be able to get a unique Landmark with their investment.

After this 'Landmark Faucets' can be purchased based on the current market value of the coin.

Merchants can set up a faucet easily using our web service to attract people to their area.

In this the coin will have utility.  Also we will be able to use this to continue funding 'Landmarks' as a real product.

I have a long task list, which is why I am projecting for the beginning of Summer.  I have some prototypes working which is why I am doing the Pre-Ann announcement.

It will take a little while to switch to POS since I am using the standard BitcoinJ code.  I want things to be well tested. After that it is just some gruntwork getting things in place

Each IPO investor will get a custom made landmark that they will be able to place where they choose that will show up on the map.

Further landmarks will can be purchased through an easy web form, which will be added to the map.

I have decided to not concern myself with 'fairness of the faucets' because the point of the coin is not fair distribution but rather an incentive for people to get out.

Some people will just happen to be near landmarks.  Some will not. 

Ideally we will put a very serious effort into development so that all regions of the globe are covered.

One part of the project will be going through and identifying all notable landmarks across the globe, and then making an icon and then landmark faucet for each.

It will be a way of appreciating the earth, moving attention outwards rather than in. We need this balance, which is why I want to advocate faucets that get people out into the world so they can appreciate it.

What would be fair?  I am even hesitant to hold an IPO just because of the commotion it would cause.  

In fact if the community wants to help out with this then I will not hold an IPO.  I just want a decent product.  

Right now in the coin community it is a tough call how to fund a fun and innovative coin.

I have a few Bitcoins to fund some of the marketing. Ideally the community would help to grow this coin so we would not have to have an IPO or pre-mine.

It is all up in the air.

I have many visions for this coin.

One of them is thus:  A merchant can open up a faucet for an event, so that people who go to the events can get free coins.

I have been thinking about this.

I am probably going to limit the movement a person can go.  If someone really wants to program an app to emulate travel around the world they can, good for them.

I have around 4 Bitcoin I can put towards various bounties.

I have spent the past two weeks studying the BitcoinJ code and working on some Android prototypes.

Although I have a background in software engineering I would like to add someone on to my team to help with coin development.

We still have to decide how to fund the application.  If I was going to hold an IPO each investor would get their unique faucet put on our map with a custom logo of their choice.

This will be a serious attempt at combining a map application with a coin so I want it to be robust and well tested, with a focus on good design principles to allow for extendability.

I am currently planning out iterations.
 
The plan is to launch before Summer break begins.

The distribution event will go one full year.  After that the faucets will still pay out but at reduced rates.

Still deciding on some final details and putting my team together.

The Landmarks will cover the globe, giving everyone a chance to collect some coins.  We will try to identify as many unique landmarks as possible and setup faucets at those locations.

The big payout faucet will be the 'Landmarks', like Mt. Ranier or the Grand Canyon.  They will have unique special 'Landmark icons'.

These are just some prototype mockups.

It does need some work.  

The idea will be that each city will have a unique icon, and when you click on it a box pops up that shows information about the location as well as the amount in the faucet and a button to collect the coins if you are near the faucet.

We will change some things, I want to alter the icons a bit.  What does the community think?

My friend who is a graphic designer is going to make the map icons and logos.  I cannot wait.  We should have some prototypes set up soon.

The long goal is to establish a successful coin that encourages getting out and travel.

We will have a professional quality web portal and smartphone applications.  It is going to take a few iterations but I am forming a good crew.

Location Based Faucets:   We are developing a coin where the primary mode of distribution is through location based faucets.  In order to collect the coins from the faucet you must physically visit the faucet. Smartphones will allow the user to collect coins if they are within a certain distance.  

-  These faucets are accessible via GPS enabled smartphones.  

-  The coin will be POS with the primary mode of distribution being the location based faucets.

-  Each city will have a faucet that will pay out at a set rate.   Each prominent landmark will  have a faucet.  

-  Merchants can set up their own faucet to encourage people to visit their area.
