Latium is a project I also find rather interesting I could see some use for it in the growing market of freelance work. And it fills the outsourcing work niche rather nicely.
My guess is it won't in the short term but long term core does need to step up it's game because it's starting to rot on the inside.
In the longer run anything is still possible. A lot to be said for and against both parties.
