10 MW off-grid solar farm that feeds nothing but hungry Bitcoin miners!
Strap in—this blues-rap fusion track drops you right in the middle of the desert, where silicon catches sunrise, batteries hum all night, and every hash is paid for in photons.

I see that you are having power issues after 2pm, and you have extra battery power running. What happens if the battery is not charged in the morning due to bad weather?
That happens quite a bit, I think the dropouts are issues with the Solis Cloud, the Miner doesn't show any restarts during those times.
Right now I have the inverter running between 50 and 90% battery SOC, in the evening it shuts down at 50% SOC.
I don't have any automation running yet so for bad weather during morning startup the inverter charges the battery to over 50% and starts generating.
If there is more draw than the system can sustain the inverter shuts off again, it keeps this loop up until there's enough solar.
Not ideal for sure.

I think the first script I write will stop the miner let it cool down then shut it down at night then in the morning after it starts for the first time I'll put it into sleep mode until there is sufficient SOC.

Any thoughts?

Today I started mining at 10am and shut down at 7pm with 40% battery left. Most of the day was sunny but mid to late afternoon was cloudy.
So this time of the year I can get about 9 hrs of mining with the current set-up. That makes about $2.25/day on an old S19i x 10pcs =  $22.50/day
What do you guys think?

So I have enough of the system built to start some test runs, that's what I did yesterday.
I finished setting up and started the first run at 2pm. It ran until 8pm where the inverter shut down at the programed battery low voltage setpoint of 30%.
Check it out, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlrzSxn80-s

Will do a full day run today.
This is on a Solis S6 11.4 KW Inverter and 24 KW Nissan Leaf Battery.

Let's compare ROI if electricity is of minimal concern, as it would be with a paid off solar power plant.
We can go into ROI's starting from scratch of a new buildout later.

I think the maths are good  Tongue

Comparing ROI of Older vs. Newer Equipment

Equipment Specifications

Antminer S19j+
Hash Rate: 95 TH/s
Power Consumption: 3,250 W
Price per Miner: $300

Antminer S21
Hash Rate: 200 TH/s
Power Consumption: 3,500 W
Price per Miner: $4,000

Proportion of Network Hash Rate

S19j+ Proportion:
Proportion = (95 × 10¹² H/s) ÷ (663 × 10¹⁸ H/s) ≈ 1.432 × 10⁻⁷

S21 Proportion:
Proportion = (200 × 10¹² H/s) ÷ (663 × 10¹⁸ H/s) ≈ 3.016 × 10⁻⁷

Expected BTC per Miner per Day For 24-Hour Operation:

S19j+:
Expected BTC/day = 450.72 BTC × 1.432 × 10⁻⁷ ≈ 0.0000646 BTC/day

S21:
Expected BTC/day = 450.72 BTC × 3.016 × 10⁻⁷ ≈ 0.000136 BTC/day

Adjusted for 8-Hour Operation:

S19j+:
Adjusted BTC/day = 0.0000646 BTC/day × (8 ÷ 24) ≈ 0.0000215 BTC/day

S21:
Adjusted BTC/day = 0.000136 BTC/day × (8 ÷ 24) ≈ 0.0000453 BTC/day

Daily Revenue per Miner

S19j+ Revenue:
0.0000215 BTC/day × $62,125.31 = $1.34 per day

S21 Revenue:
0.0000453 BTC/day × $62,125.31 = $2.82 per day

Payback Period

S19j+:
Payback Period = $300 ÷ $1.34 ≈ 224 days

S21:
Payback Period = $4,000 ÷ $2.82 ≈ 1,418 days

Annual Revenue and ROI

S19j+ Annual Revenue:
$1.34/day × 365 days = $489 per year
Annual ROI:
ROI = (($489 - $300) ÷ $300) × 100% ≈ 63%

S21 Annual Revenue:
$2.82/day × 365 days = $1,029 per year
Annual ROI: Negative until after the payback period (~3.89 years)

Investment Comparison

Investing $4,000:

Option 1: 1 S21 Miner
Total Hash Rate: 200 TH/s
Daily Revenue: $2.82
Payback Period = $4,000 ÷ $2.82 ≈ 1,418 days

Option 2: 13 S19j+ Miners ($300 each)
Total Hash Rate: 13 × 95 TH/s = 1,235 TH/s
Proportion = (1,235 × 10¹² H/s) ÷ (663 × 10¹⁸ H/s) ≈ 1.862 × 10⁻⁶
Expected BTC/day = 450.72 BTC × 1.862 × 10⁻⁶ ≈ 0.000840 BTC/day
Adjusted BTC/day = 0.000840 BTC/day × (8 ÷ 24) ≈ 0.000280 BTC/day
Daily Revenue = 0.000280 BTC/day × $62,125.31 = $17.39 per day
Payback Period = $4,000 ÷ $17.39 ≈ 230 days

Conclusion: Investing in multiple S19j+ miners yields higher hash rate and faster ROI compared to a single S21 miner.

You need to compare Antminer S19j+ with other modern ASICs. Antminer S21 is already outdated. But if you have a choice of only 2 ASICs, then in your case Antminer S19j+ is more profitable, but the bad thing is that you can mine only one third of the day.

True, I am on the slow boat.  Grin

However, regardless of your result, you still need to include the additional cost of your off-grid solar system to ROI since the end goal is to build an off-grid farm.
Or is everything already paid just like the additional 40kW panels you have now?
Yes, mostly paid other than more inverters and mounts for the panels.
Okay, I guess the 'Total Off-grid' plan is already laid out regardless of the result of this 50kW solar power experiment.

How about taking a chance in the $160k bitcoin lottery and solo mine it?
Time estimate: 10 years
0.00000194% chance per block isn't too bad.
Time estimate isn't really a good basis since this "10 years" could be the block in the next 10 minutes or the next 10 years.
An extreme example is the miner of block 853742 who only had 3.1TH, reference: /index.php?topic=5237323.msg64356985#msg64356985
But don't take that as an encouragement to solo, just saying that a very low chance has a chance.

Annual ROI: Negative until after the payback period (~3.89 years)
At last, someone who doesn't think that "ROI" is the same as "Capital Return".  Grin

Also, take the gradual increase of total network hash rate in consideration and the next "halving" if it would take more than 4 years from now to ROI.

Yes Sir, and how about the projected increase in price,
I recalculated with a 3 X increase in 3 years using todays price, I'll spare all the math.

Future Price = $61,000 × 3 = $183,000

Total Value of Mined Bitcoin After 3 Years
Total Value = Total BTC Mined × Future Price

Total Value = 0.200385 BTC × $183,000/BTC ≈ $36,670.46

ROI
Net Profit
Net Profit = Total Value - Initial Investment

Net Profit = $36,670.46 - $3,000 = $33,670.46

ROI Percentage
ROI (%) = (Net Profit ÷ Initial Investment) × 100%

ROI = ($33,670.46 ÷ $3,000) × 100% ≈ 1,122%

Aren't there better ways to invest the produced power like offsetting your own electricity usage or selling it to the grid?
Mining would not be my first choice.

Not that I've been able to come up with.
I already generate my own power for the house and the power co doesn't pay sh*t here.

I would rather invest in the latest Asic miners instead, the s19 are already on the line of retirement, and now they are losing profitability faster, if you have multiple of them then you can add easily buy one latest Asic miner.

Less heat, more gains and also less noise.

Do not forget that if your ROI was to be made back in 2 years, running on solar panels alone will add an extra 2 years to ROI because once the sun is down you have to wait till the next day.

Thanks, the calculations already take into account only mining during the day.

I'm looking at this from a totally different angle.
Also this is more of a, can it be done project, I'm not expecting to get rich but if it can make profit I know I'm on to something interesting.
The reason for all this?
If it works we plan to build out a total Off-Grid Mining Farm in West Texas.
Interesting.. but with discrepancy on the goals.
Computing ROI with the mining equipment alone will surely return with positive result no matter how long it will be.
(use any of the famous mining calculators online like whattomine with 0$/kWh electricity cost)
No one can predict the future so calculators can only calculate with the current profitability.

However, regardless of your result, you still need to include the additional cost of your off-grid solar system to ROI since the end goal is to build an off-grid farm.

According to that S19j @  $300 will ROI in 75 days if mining 24/7 but since I'm only mining 1/3 of the day its more like 225 days.
How long will an $4000 S21 take to ROI and how many S19 can I buy for $4000?

Here we go again!  Grin

This new project will dynamicaly adjust the miners dependant on power available from solar.
The demonstration solar system when finished will have 50kw of solar panels, 40kw of inverters and 100kwh of battery storage.
We will only mine during the day and morning/evening using some of the battery but battery will be used mostly to smooth solar power during cloud conditions.
I plan to run 10 Antminer s19j mostly in low power mode at around 2200 watts each.
The system is located in Texas.

I have 10kw of solar and 11.4kw inverter already installed.
Still working on the 24kwh battery .
Another 40kw of panels are on site but I need to build out the mounts.

6 of the 10 Antminers in stock

Next step after the battery is to start up one Miner and develop a Python control script for,

Dynamic Miner Control

Adjustable Power Settings: The Antminer S19j supports different operational modes that can adjust power consumption and hashrate. We will utilize these settings to match the miners' power usage with available solar energy.

Response to Solar Output: Implement a system where miners ramp up or down based on real-time solar production and battery charge levels. This will ensure optimal use of available power without overloading the system.

I have done profitability calcs on this minus the Solar equipment because most of it was already bought and paid for years ago but I'll get to that later.

It seems what makes this feasible today is that you can buy S19 machines cheap.

The reason for all this?
If it works we plan to build out a total Off-Grid Mining Farm in West Texas.

🎉 Exciting news, Tribe community! 🎉

We've taken a significant step towards ensuring the longevity and resilience of the Tribe blockchain with the introduction of our solar-powered AtomicPi miner. This unique setup, which we like to think of as our very own land-based Tribe mining satellite, is designed to keep the Tribe blockchain alive and kicking, even in the event that no other miners are active.

Here's how it works: The heart of the system is an AtomicPi, a compact yet powerful single-board computer, running our Tribe wallet on Linux. This little powerhouse is responsible for the actual mining work, crunching the numbers to find new blocks and keep the blockchain moving.

But what makes this setup truly special is its energy source. The AtomicPi is powered entirely by solar energy, harvested by a 360-watt solar panel. The energy collected by the panel is managed by a solar charge controller, which ensures the system operates efficiently and safely. The power is stored in two Trojan 6 volt T105 batteries, providing a reliable source of energy for the AtomicPi.

The entire system is regulated by a voltage regulator, ensuring the AtomicPi receives a steady and safe supply of power. This means our miner can keep working around the clock, regardless of the weather or time of day.

While the mining speed of this setup may not match that of larger, grid-powered mining rigs, its true value lies in its resilience. As long as the sun keeps shining, our solar-powered miner will keep working on the Tribe blockchain. This ensures that even if all other miners were to stop, the Tribe blockchain would live on.

This is just one of the innovative ways we're working to secure the future of Tribe. Stay tuned for more exciting updates! 💪🚀

🚀 New Development Update: Satellite Data Discord Bot 🚀

Hello Tribe community! We're excited to share our latest development with you. We've been working hard behind the scenes and are proud to announce the deployment of our new Discord bot!

This bot is not just any bot - it's designed to fetch and post satellite data directly into our Discord channel. This is a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to integrate open-source satellite project infrastructure into Tribe.

Here's a brief overview of what we've accomplished:

Data Fetching: The bot fetches the latest satellite data from a file that is updated with new data from our CubeSats. This data is in hexadecimal format.

Data Processing: The bot then converts this hexadecimal data into ASCII, providing us with readable information about our satellite network. This includes details like the ground station, satellite, modulation, frequency, spreading factor, coding rate, bandwidth, received time, signal RSSI, and signal SNR.

Data Posting: The bot posts this processed data to our 'satellite-feed' Discord channel every 60 seconds. This allows us to monitor the status of our satellites in real-time.

Data Comparison: To avoid spamming the channel with redundant information, the bot only posts new data if it's different from the last sent data. This ensures that we're always kept up-to-date with the latest changes in our satellite network.

We believe this bot will greatly enhance our ability to monitor and manage our satellite network, and we're excited to see it in action. As always, we're committed to pushing the boundaries of what's possible with Tribe, and we're grateful for your continued support as we embark on this exciting journey.

Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions or feedback!

Why incorporate satellite data into the Tribe blockchain?

At Tribe, we're working on an innovative system that leverages the capabilities of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites to enable data transmission from remote locations, particularly for Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) devices.

Our focus is not on providing continuous global coverage like systems such as Starlink, but rather on creating a network that can handle intermittent data transmission. As long as there are multiple satellite passes per day, our system can effectively serve its purpose.

The key advantage of using LEO satellites in our system is their accessibility for low-power devices. These devices can directly upload data to the satellites using a simple antenna, without the need for expensive transmitters and/or dish installations. This makes our system practical and cost-effective for remote IoT and M2M applications.

Our system essentially functions as a store-and-forward mechanism. When a satellite passes overhead, devices transmit their data, which is then stored on the satellite. The satellite subsequently forwards the data to a ground station when it comes into range. This data is then logged onto the Tribe blockchain, providing a secure and immutable record of the data transmission.

Furthermore, we're exploring the potential of integrating a micropayment system into this network. This could enable devices to make small payments for the data they transmit, opening up new possibilities for data monetization and resource allocation.

We're also considering the concept of a Super Masternode with direct satellite connectivity. This could provide valuable services and functionality within the constraints of the 160-byte limit for the transactions on the Tribe blockchain.

In summary, we're building a system that leverages the unique advantages of LEO satellites to enable data transmission from remote locations, with potential applications in IoT and M2M communications. While it may not offer continuous global coverage, it serves the specific purpose of facilitating communication between devices in remote locations, and holds significant potential for future advancements.

satellite?
What is his specific role?
please inform
Right now the role is experimental, we are listening for several low earth orbit cubsats and when we hear one pass overhead we are logging some of the telemetry data onto the Tribe blockchain.
In the future one of the main use cases will be IoT and or M2M micropayments for remote devices that have no other connectivity.

This also opens up many other use cases, here are a few ideas,

**Wildlife Tracking**: Tracking devices on wildlife could record location data and other information, which could then be sent to the satellite network and recorded on the Tribe blockchain. This would provide a secure, tamper-proof record of wildlife movements, which could be invaluable for conservation efforts.

**Remote Infrastructure Monitoring**: Infrastructure in remote areas, such as pipelines, power lines, or roads, could be monitored using sensors. Any significant events or changes could be recorded on the Tribe blockchain, providing a reliable record that could aid in maintenance and repair efforts.

**Emergency Alerts**: In areas with limited connectivity, the Tribe blockchain could be used to send emergency alerts. For example, a remote weather station could detect a coming storm and broadcast an alert via the satellite network. This alert could be recorded on the Tribe blockchain, providing a verifiable record of the alert.

**Remote Health Monitoring**: Health data from patients in remote areas could be recorded on the Tribe blockchain. This could provide a secure, tamper-proof record of the patient's health over time, which could be invaluable for remote healthcare services.

**Agricultural Data Collection**: In remote farming areas, data about soil conditions, weather, crop growth, etc., could be collected and sent to the satellite network, which then gets recorded on the Tribe blockchain. This could help in monitoring crop health, planning harvests, and predicting yields.

**Location Stamping**: For devices or assets that are being tracked via satellite, a hash of their location data could be stored on the Tribe blockchain at regular intervals. This would provide a tamper-proof record of the asset's location over time.

**Short Message Service**: The Tribe blockchain could be used to send short, secure messages. This could be useful in a variety of applications, such as secure communication between devices in an IoT network.

Tribe Blockchain - Expanding Horizons with Satellite Data Integration

Hello Bitcointalk community,

We're back with another exciting update from the Tribe project. As you may already know, we've achieved a significant milestone by successfully incorporating satellite data onto the Tribe blockchain. This unique integration has been a game-changer, and we're thrilled to see the potential it holds for future applications.

Despite the enthusiasm around this development, it seems we didn't have a winner for our recent contest. However, we'd like to take this opportunity to delve deeper into how this integration works, using one of our latest transactions as an example.

Here is the TRB transaction ID: ee3f26a9b4b024941f945b4b4a6ada826f88fd6bddd8cf91effe6b93a96967a0

To view the satellite data, follow these steps:

1. Visit the Tribe explorer enter the TXID and on the next page click on the round info icon to the right of the transaction ID.
2. Scroll down to the "scriptPubKey" section.
3. Look for the line that starts with "OP_RETURN". The string of numbers following "OP_RETURN" is the satellite data in hexadecimal format.

For example, you might see something like this:

"scriptPubKey": {
    "asm": "OP_RETURN 547269626563727970746f5f6e65742c5341544c4c412d32422c4c6f52612c3433372e32352c313 02c352c36322e35302c31333a30353a30382c2d3133332e30302c2d31322e3030",
}

You can convert this hexadecimal string to ASCII to see the actual satellite data.

These transactions are easy to spot - most of them are only about 0.002 TRB.

We're just scratching the surface of what's possible with Tribe. As we continue to innovate and push the boundaries, we look forward to sharing more updates with you. Stay tuned!

Best,
The Tribe Team

Tribe Project Successfully Integrates Satellite Telemetry Data with Blockchain

Hello Tribe Community,

We are thrilled to announce a significant milestone in the Tribe project. For the first time, we have successfully integrated satellite telemetry data with our blockchain. This achievement marks a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to incorporate open-source satellite project infrastructure into Tribe.

In this proof-of-concept, we've created a system that receives telemetry data from a satellite, encodes it, and includes it in a Tribe blockchain transaction using an OP_RETURN output. This transaction has been successfully broadcasted and confirmed on the Tribe network.

This is a revolutionary advancement that sets Tribe apart in the blockchain and cryptocurrency world. By integrating satellite technology into our network, we're not only enhancing the user experience but also paving the way for a host of exciting features and applications.

But we're not stopping here. This is just the first of many exciting developments to come as we continue to explore the potential of this technology.

To celebrate this milestone, we're launching a contest with a prize of 50 TRB for the first person who can locate this satellite data on the Tribe blockchain. The data is included in an OP_RETURN output of a transaction that has been recently confirmed.

To participate, you'll need to find the transaction, decode the OP_RETURN output, and post the decoded data in the discord. The first person to do so will win the prize.

We're excited to see who will be the first to find the data. Good luck to all participants!

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to push the boundaries of what's possible with Tribe and blockchain technology.
