Re: Bounty for open source ByteCoin/Monero pool
by
LucasJones
on 11/06/2014, 16:55:01 UTC
98% of the bounty has been paid out, with 49% going to zone117x and 49% to LucasJones.

The addresses were provided to me by tacotime, and the transaction IDs/logs have been provided by me to tacotime.

I'm waiting for payment information to send 2% of the bounty to archit.

My wallet is not synching... I assume, this is normal when a new wallet is not very common?

Try running 'addnode 176.250.66.46 add' in your debug window console.

I've hosted a block explorer at: http://176.250.66.46:2750/

It's a temporary address for now, I'll set up a dynamic DNS address soon. (I don't have a static IP).

My ESM client is port forwarded, so you should also be able to add the node 176.250.66.46

I've setup dynamic DNS for the explorer.

The new address is: http://esportsexplorer.us.to:2750/

It looks like block 36604 pays directory to the miners in the generated coins block.  Who is this pool?

P2Pool pays directly to the miners in the generated block.

Edit: Just checked, P2Pool.org did generate block 36604.

Re: Bitcoin MineField - 10%-2300% winings, fully automated, with cool technologies:)
by

Well, if someone was actually trying to steal from your Bitcoin Minefield account, it would not be too difficult.

It was assumed to be too unlikely that someone would try to steal from it. (As was mentioned before in this thread, there is no real security, just the secret key which is sent to the server unencrypted)

you are spreading disinformation and fear.
it is not unlikely that someone would try to steal from this site, a LOT of people try to steal bitcoin, everywhere.

a person that's in position to log in as you has to be in the same local network and with access to your traffic.
that same person is in position then to steal your facebook and gmail sessions too (login is encrypted but cookies are sent over plaintext connection afterwards)
do those sites offer no real security too?

I apologise, that was not my intent when I wrote the post.

I was referring to the fact that it would be relatively unlikely that someone would hack into your local network with the specific intent of gaining access to your bitcoin minefield account, although of course it is possible, especially with bitcoin exposure rising.

I said that it would not be too difficult for someone to gain access to your account if they were specifically trying to. If this was unclear I mean that if someone knew enough information about you, and had the knowledge to gain access to your private network (or was able to sniff packets some other way) they could get into your minefield account with relative ease (as the page isn't currently secured with ssl).

When you access a site through https (default on facebook, etc), all data except for the host you are requesting is encrypted. This means that all your cookies and other information is encrypted, making it difficult for someone sniffing on your network to gain access to your accounts. It is still possible for someone to gain access to these accounts through exploits such as MITM attacks, etc., but these usually take more effort, network access and knowledge than just sniffing packets.

If you think that network sniffing is a significant security concern, I encourage you to use https (if it would not be too much of a hassle) as it would encrypt the path of your site and the cookies sent, protecting the user's secret id from being found as easily.

Does that mean those who started out with CPU mining are now out of it and only GPU miners can cope with the difficulity?

Seems so. But even a decent GPU won't help u much, u need a bunch of them.

Does anyone have a difficulty prediction for the next adjustment?

I'm guessing around 3,749 at the current network hashrate.

I notice the difficulty is still way up. If it does drop, what's to prevent someone from pointing an ASIC or server farm at BTE like last time and kicking the difficulty up again. Been around for a while and know some get a kick out of doing that kind of thing "just for fun".

I guess not much is stopping them Sad

The hashrate has been quite unstable for a while, but recently it seems to be rising, which hopefully means that there will soon be enough full-time miners to prevent this type of thing having much effect on the network.

Considering how much profit you make when people buy others emeralds and from the reset, doesn't 20% of the emerald going back to the owner when resetting sound better?

The entire server profit before the refund is *roughly* 50% of what the last user paid.

The refund is 40% of the server profit.

40% of 50% is effectively 20% of what the last user paid...

EDIT: I'll change the site if you want, to make it a bit clearer, as that is the current refund given

I'm out, I find it extremely unfair how much bte you lose when it resets.

There's not much I can do about that, the server profit before the refund is roughly 50% of the last owner's price, so there is no sustainable way I can pay it all back.

The website is down again

It's up, the DNS server didn't update correctly to the new server IP.

(once again) It should be fine now, the problems are at least getting further away from the actual server now. (Database -> Internet -> DNS Server)

Its down again

The server machine decided to shut down. It's back up now. At least it wasn't the database this time Wink

I fixed the problem which made the server stop, an auto-update service restarted the computer and effectively shut down the site.

Why is it down again?

The database crashed, I've extended the time until the next reset

Oh okay, maybe you should make it alert you when the database can't connect?

Thanks for fixing it Smiley

No problem Smiley

I rewrote the database persistent storage system; hopefully it won't crash any more.
