eeeshhh...  Two risers daisy chained like that?  IDK if I could do that myself without worrying like crazy.  Then again for cards that draw less power, this may be less of an issue.

Well - I thought I post a pic of our mining rigs as they come together.  Keep in mind this is being put together with Scrypt mining in mind, not bitcoin.  I've been given plenty of opinions about the fact its a bit "late" to get into gpu mining.  However looking at the math and knowing I'm mainly going at this from a scrypt mining route I believe I have a seutp that will be profitable quite soon.  I plan on keeping daily logs of energy useage, income, etc.  So if anyone has questions in the next month or two - feel free to shoot me a message and I"ll be glad to share any and all information! Smiley

That said... This is our basic setup for now.  I am a mechanical engineering student and am working on a server rack type setup with my teacher in Solidworks.  Once I have a setup I am happy with, I will move on to building it.  I hope to have that completed in the next 45 days.  60 at the most.  So with that in mind we wanted to start out with something simple.  I'm doing this as a partnership with my buddy who while be keeping the rigs at his house.  He does have small children so we do want to keep the rigs somewhat enclosed while being able to have adequate cooling since scrypt mining requires the use of memory which is only goingn to increase heat production for sure.  We want to be able to put at least 4 cards in these rigs to start, with the hope to get to 5 if needed.  We could not find crates big enough so after we found crates we liked, I simply cut out a side and merged them together.  Since we needed something to mount the motherboard to, we added a piece of piece of acrylic (plexiglass)  We then drilled holes for the MB standoffs and threaded those into the acrylic.  From there, everything was mounted up.  We now have a working box, ready for the 7970's with Arctic Accelero coolers that are currently in FedEx's custody on their way to my buddy's house.

Its been a really fun project thus far, that's for sure!

This is where we ended up.  The only thing different right now is the way the 3 cards in the front rig are mounted and the fan us hanging up above the rigs blowing down on an angle for better air flow.  Almost every card, except one, is mining at or below 50 deg C with some pretty significant overclocking going on.  (Up to 1718 on memory)  The one card that isn't running so cool is getting taken apart in the next few days to get a good once over.  Give it a re-paste, make sure all the screws are tight on the cooler, etc.  Its only about 5 deg warmer then the others, but its enough for me to want to investigate.  I'll post up an updated picture come Tuesday when I get back to the rigs to play with them some more.

Why does everyone want to use Linux with their mining gear? These days a Windows 7 machine can run just as efficient and stable as any Linux distro out there and you have all you need. What's the reason for using Linux at all besides being old school and really just liking Linux?
Linux is free? You can buy a bunch of motherboards on Newegg, and not have to buy a $150 license for a legal OS?

I'd be willing to bet a lot of the miners on windows you see just delete the "genuine advantage" (the install/os verifier) update and they aren't exactly all paid versions of windows.  Not speaking of my own of course.  They are all paid for!  Wink

Thanks for the compliments.  We didnt put a ton of thought and effort into this just because its not our permanent solution.  I have something much better in mind, custom LED maintenance lighting included!  No, it wot be on 24x7.  Just on a rocker switch for when its needed or when showing off the rig to someone.  I figure in the future if we are able to expand, we are going to be trying to rent some space somewhere that will save us money on our power bill.  If its on a really nice looking rack, it should be less of an eye sore and should open up the number of opportunities we have at getting is placed somewhere.  Heck, I'm even thinking about talking to my buddy who lives like 2 hours from me.  Granted its a distance, but considering the power bill would be 42% cheaer - itd be worth it.  I should be able to get it to the point I never need need to touch it anyways except for monthly cleaning, etc.  Which I may be able to pay him or his wife to do - or just make the trek one a month.    I'll be able to afford to kick him a few bucks a month towards his own bill.

At any rate.  Crazy tired.... time for bed!  And sorry for the image size issues, I ALWAYS forget to do that!  Sorry!

Always a fan of a really nice looking rack.

First - just want to thank everyone for their compliments.  But credit is also due to my partner (not life partner! lol), Charlie.

EVeryone's always got a wise @$$ remark about anything!  Tongue

Funy $hit though! Smiley

Wow, that's a fantastic price.  In the fc/ltc trading thread its basically the same price as 0.474 per 1k FC.  So 0.711 per 1500 FC as you asked for here.

I'm sure you will have a lot of people begging to sell you FC! lol

CNSMining

For the current round we have been mining and equal amount of time.  Something changed and I have "passed" him, but something really does not make sense in those numbers.

Looks like you found a block.

Why yes sir, it looks like I sure did! Smiley

EDIT:  I hope the payouts are more accurate the pool data.  From the pool data a round payout for me is around 52 coins.  According to pool hash rate we should find roughly 13 blocks a day.  52 X 13 is 676 which is well short of my expected income per day at this hashrate.

Something just isnt quite right.  I hope this is straightened out by payout time. Smiley

Is there something up with the stats?  My miners are running fine and run perfect on Litecoin.  Yet for some reason someone on the pool with half my hash rate has 30k more submitted shares then I? lol  What gives?

EDIT:  Also - are there an issue with payouts?  Noticed the 2nd block confirmed and I still dont have a balance.

I got enough litecoin to dump on a 7950 this will jump my hash rate from 871khash/s to 1471-1521khash/s, or should I hold my ltc?

Seriously.
What do you guys think? Hold or dump?

I think LTC mining is going to be extremely profitable. I'd buy a card, but I'd go for the 7970.

Don't listen to this guy, 7950 all the way.  I'll lay it out for you and show why serious miners do 7950.

7970 gets 750 according to crypto. Most people get less however.

7950 gets 650 though most get less.

Both can get the high numbers with much testing and work.

Based off of top end numbers:

7970 = $400 = 1.875 h/s/$
7950 = $290 = 2.24 h/s/$

per card, yes, but you get something like 3h/$ if you buy a 5830, would you be buying a 5830? no because there's only so many you can fit on a rig, before you have to buy another set of mobo/ram/cpu etc.. The card that give bigger hash per PCIE slot does have its advantages, especially if space is of concern.

6 7950 per computer vs 6 7970 per computer the 7950's still come out cheaper per k/s/$

Up front this is correct - but one thing you may want to think about is the difference in resale value.  I think we can all agree GPU mining is seeing its final days in the coming months.  So your resale market is down to gamers.  Most gamers who buy used equipment are looking for the best card available at the time.  (7970/7990)

For the right price in LTC I'll contract out my 5.6 mh/s to you to mine Feathercoin.  We can setup a price per day if solo mining, pps if mining on a pool.

Shoot me a PM if interested!

For solo mining in the feathercoin.conf do we need the blockntime and blocknonce settings like litecoin?

Your so bitter that you can't DDOS www.wemineltc.com that you have to revert to attacking the chat room.  That has got to be the funniest thing I have ever seen.  I know when you look between your legs you can't find your d*** but I promise you wont find it in the chat room either.  But I do wish you luck finding it one day.  It will probably be shortly after your nuts drop and you reach some age of "maturity" and you stop doing crap like this.  Either man up and state why you do these things and own that shit - or fade into the wood work like the cum stain on your moms blouse like you SHOULD have been.

Peace and cryptocoins! Smiley

The positive for the exchanges would be?

Well the exchanges like them, bots pay fees too.

Funny you mention this.  Do you ever notice how may of those bot orders never go through?  They are strictly there as false place holders and continue to change as the market changes and they cancel the orders and add them back in at a different price?  So actually I would say on a percentage of traffic and stress on the system vs completed orders - bots are a complete nuisance to the exchanges.

Do we have any information on what is going on with Nickasa?  I sent him a PM with no response, I see everyone else is still having problems.  Though why people continue to mine here and give him money is more then I can understand.

I hope everything is ok with him as the pool was awesome for me for quite some time, I would hate to see it disappear.  But I can't acccept that I was mining on his pool while he was making money and I wasn't getting paid.

Anyone have some information?  No trying to jump right to a scam accusation - but it would be nice to hear SOMETHING from management of notroll.in!!!!

Dont be affraid to play with 11.2 and the thread concurrency of 8192 with your 7970s.  In my rigs I have to overclock even further and use even more electricity to get the same hash rate on 11.3 as I do on 11.2.  Needless to say I have stayed with 11.2!!!

5.6-ish mh/s.  8 7970's.  All with Arctic Accelero coolers.

They all hash between 645 and 735 kh/s depending on the card.

All hash between 48 to 52 degrees C due to the fantastic coolers!  I really believe these things are worth every penny when it comes to scrypt mining since we are overclocking and sometimes even overvolting the memory so far.  My vrm's, core, the whole bit stay super cool.  Every single card I ever add to the rigs will be equipped with one asap.

Plus it makes the resale value a bit better then the rest and a bit more desirable then the rest considering most can acknowledge and appreciate what it means to keep your GPU's running at a much lower temperature.
