Re: [ANN] TOKENCARD

The card is neat and they'll make money off the fee (I think?) but what's the point in the tokens? I mean from an investor's standpoint? You can argue that the system functions much smoother with their own token, alright, but why does the value of that token matter I mean (why would it ever appreciate in value)?

So you have to trust the exit node to not do anything with your data (since it's unencrypted at that point). Also, because of this, you don't want to host a node from your home as all of the exit node's traffic will look like your own traffic to the ISP (meaning any illegal activity will look like it's coming from you).

So basically it turns you (if you're an exit node) into a VPN provider with all the accountability yet no responsibility and no insurance. Sounds like that could be a recipe for disaster. Sad

Re: Question... Zero value??

Bancor appears to let you do that from what I can tell. It claims you can create a "reward point" system which, even though it technically has value (can be traded for something worth value), itself has no set value. I haven't seem them post much info on it yet though?

Re: [ANN] Bancor | Protocol for Smart-tokens, solving the liquidity problem

Something I don't understand yet. Lets say I want to make a new currency ("ImaginaryCoin" or IMC lets say). That currency isn't on any exchanges. How would I give IMC value through Bancor? Do I just make a value up (1 ETH per IMC or 0.25 BNC per IMC or etc.)? I haven't seen a clear outline on that process yet.

For a normal cryptocurrency the value is determined by its exchange value, but Bancor is looking to bypass counterparty. They say the price is self-regulating and will stay at market value, but what about coins without an existing market value like this hypothetical IMC currency? What determines the starting price?

Re: Mysterium Network (MYST) ICO starts May 30, 2017

Alright so the concept seems neat, but I don't see any answers to basic questions that normal buyers would want to know.

  • I see in the whitepaper that "speed" is listed as "High/Medium" vs the Centralized "High". So we can assume right off the bat that speeds are going to be a bit slower than other VPN solutions?
  • What about latency? I would assume this might be one area this project would come out ahead since you'd be able to take much more efficient routes to your destination vs having to path to a centralized server first?
  • Will there be monthly fees for using this "VPN" (like other VPN services)? I see there's allotment for "infrastructure" in the whitepaper, so I'm assuming there will be continual upkeep even though this is decentralized?

I'm just trying to get a feel for where this will fit in the market. Most people I know want the fastest speeds/lowest latency while getting a decent amount of privacy. This project seems more focused on absolute privacy rather than performance, correct?

I have high hopes for this project. I'm just sad that I can't participate in some of the bounties because of my "activity" level. My original account (Maconi) was hacked and I do more lurking than posting so even that account's activity was low. Sad

i've looking for this link.. thanks that i found this.. i am planning to join social media bounty.. i just want to know if it is necessary to have a facebook account? cause i saw that it should be connected to the messenger.

You can use Telegram instead of Messenger I think. You can also just pop in the Slacker chat and if you need other questions answered.

NEM really flew under the radar for me. I remember reading about it when it first came out but never thought much of it. I feel like I keep doing the opposite of what I should lol. Every coin I've tried has bombed and every coin I've skipped has skyrocketed. *sigh*

Re: Would you invest in Ethereum longterm?

I think ETH isn't going anywhere, until something better comes along that is (which could be a while). Maybe the price won't keep increasing at such a fast pace, but it shouldn't bomb anytime soon. There are too many other projects being built on the "smart contract" system that require people to fund it with ETH to start.

I'd say a lot of it is due to all the crypto news sites going on about how ETH is going to dethrone BTC and how BTC is old news and what not. I bet a lot of people are getting out of BTC and looking at ETH and coins built off the smart contract system.

The market dumped on me a couple times pretty hard. Turned me off to cryptos in general and made me back out of the ETH presale (hindsight is 20/20). Thinking about getting back into it but damn ETH has shaken things up. Everything seems to have changed from building the best decentralized currency to building the best blockchain (ecosystem).

I'm on the Bancor train. The ICO doesn't seem that popular (yet) but I really like the concept. Time will tell...

I'm liking Bancor although I don't see it being talked about all that much. I'm not sure if it's just flying stealth or if people think it's not as great as it seems to be?

I think it's possible but it will definitely take a while. So much is changing so fast, in a couple years Ethereum could be overshadowed by something we haven't even heard of yet.

I feel like there's a lot of loose money out there. People may stop piling onto the top 10 coins, but I think we'll see decent movement across the market. Maybe just less major spikes for a while.

Re: Time to dump ETH?

Ethereum is confusing to me. I had the chance to get in on the presale and skipped over it because I wasn't convinced of the product back then. I'm still a bit confused why it's taken off. I always thought the point of cryptocurrency was anonymous, secure, decentralized currency. Ethereum is an interesting concept and has potential uses, but I still don't understand why it's being claimed that it's the future. Having said that I regret not getting in on that presale now obviously, although I probably would have bailed long before now lol. Sad

Surprised I haven't seen anyone mention Bancor yet. It seems pretty unique to me and will basically let you avoid exchanges and build your own funds (the "baskets" they mention). If people start using it the default (Bancor) token price would skyrocket (at least I think?). That and their partnership with Stratis and Tokencard seems promising. They already have a product before the ICO launch as well.

Any opinions on if it might be a good buy?

What's so special about it?
