Oh man. All the "Bitcoin has failed!" and "its all over!" talk is driving me nuts. Any market is going to have its hills and valleys. Look at how many depressions we've been through and the market still operates just fine. With every game there has to be winners and losers. And with the market acting the way its acting right now I have to say right now its going to separate the men from the boys in Bitcoins. The people who don't know what they're doing and don't have the stomach for trading are going to see their way right to the door when they get their first taste of financial blood in their mouth when they fall off their high horses and realize every day is going to have its gains and losses. Just sometimes the losses will outweigh the gains. Just need to be smart, and hang in there.

Give it time friend, I sure hope you didn't sell yet. Especially seeing how networks like Mt. Gox are at roughly $13/BTC. Just give it time, BTC will rebound and you'll make your investment back. Remember, for the people who buy and sell this is the time when people are going to be gobbling up coins now knowing that it is capable of reaching highs of $30-$40/BTC. Once they start gobbling it back up, demand is going to be on the rise once more and the price will be driven back up!

Even if you just consider the difficulty that has risen dramatically in only a few weeks, or the people who will continue to swarm this network as they hear of other people's success stories or realize the potential of the Bitcoin beyond simply making a quick buck off it's exchange.

Believe me, it'll rebound, and it wont take long. Hang in there friend. =)

Just curious if anyone has experience with this card or not? I was looking into buying two more Radeon 5830s but everywhere seems to be either sold out or they just want way too much money for them. I paid $100/card for my 5830 and now I see them everywhere for between $200-$300.

So moving on, I stumbled onto the Radeon 6790 today for a little more than what I paid for my 5830s and I noticed its not listed anywhere on the Mining Hardware Comparison page. Does this mean it is not compatible with running mining or something or has nobody simply got around to adding its performance to the list?

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

By default my card runs at 880 MHz out of the box. At this clock speed it averages around 85-89ºF when mining. If I overclock the card it runs pretty average around 90-93ºF. I can only overclock it to 900 MHz, any higher and my entire monitor goes this real off color grey and my system totally locks up. I'm very new to overclocking so I don't fully understand a lot of this. But I do know the YouTube thing happens while I'm mining regardless of overclocking. And the lock up happened while I was running at 900 MHz.

Taking the fans off auto bring my video card down to 75-80ºF when I crank it to 100% power but is that bad for the fans? How long can they operate under that level of RPMs before burning themselves out? It also is very annoying as it sounds like a vacuum cleaner running when its cranked up that high.

I was wondering if this is a video card issue or a limitation of Bitcoin mining or what. But when I have my miner running - weather my video card is overclocked or not, the second I open YouTube to watch a quick video or something or really do anything video related weather it be YouTube or not, my computer locks up and I have to restart it.

Now, I would like to point out last week I bought 2 Radeon 5830 cards and ran them both on one machine and everything worked fine. Since then I purchased 1 new Radeon 6970 and took 1 of the 5830s out to put in my wife's computer and run mine with a 6970 and 1 5830. Since then I'm having the lock up issue but it was fine with just the 5830s. It would obviously immediately lesson my performance in mining, but I could still watch something if I needed to or wanted to rather.

So should I return this video card as there is a problem with it? Or deal with it and just find another computer to use to play around on?

Oh yeah, and last but not least I did want to point out that during the night I believe my computer locked up while I was sleeping because when I woke up to check on it my screens were black and unresponsive but my tower was still running. So these lock ups could even be in-part unrelated to watching any videos or playing games or anything but I've not confirmed it yet.

My question is how long will Bitcoin mining be around for? How long hypothetically until all the Bitcoins are found? Is there a way to know or check how many have been found already and how many are left? And is it true that once they're all found its not possible to make more? Just some newb questions. I appreciate the help.

Well, don't get me wrong. I think Bitcoins are a fantastic idea but I don't understand everyone allowance of this vulnerability? I can see being cheated out of a few bucks here and there but if I leave my miner running for weeks on end and rack up a couple hundred dollars in energy costs or what not and I go to trade my hard earned coin and something happens to where the other party can't accept the trade, I don't understand how people are okay with taking the loss? Why hasn't some fail safe been put in place to protect people? Both on the Buying and Selling side of the deal? How can anyone have faith in a system that is unsafe?

So I tried selling some Bitcoins for USD on Bitcoin Market the other day and the transaction went sour, the other guy clearly knew what he was doing about as well as I did lol. He sent me the wrong amount to PayPal that we agreed on for the transaction, PayPal refunded the wrong amount, bringing my PayPal balance to a negative balance (which later got straightened out), it was just a huge mess.

The thing that worried me about the whole thing was as soon as I clicked SELL in Bitcoin Market, it removed the appropriate BTC from my Balance to process the transaction and would not let me cancel my transaction in any way shape or form (to my knowledge). The only way to get my BTC back (which I did end up getting back) was to contact the person buying them and ask him to cancel the order entirely. Is that the only way?

Hypothetically. Lets say I want to sell 5 BTC for $5.00/USD, and I find someone who is buying them at that rate so I click SELL. So what happens if the person is in a car accident and is killed or something before sending me the money via PayPal. Are my funds lost forever since nobody is available on the other end to cancel the order? Or is there a way for me to manually back out of the order and get my funds back???

Any help is greatly appreciated as if there is no current way to get my funds back in this situation I'll lose a LOT of my faith in Bitcoins due to security. :-/

Yep. The one in DeepBit where it says "Your bitcoin address for receiving rewards" matches the address in Bitcoin that says "Your Bitcoin Address:" The address DeepBit says is for my payment is also listed in my Address Book on Bitcoin.

Okay, so I went out and bought two new video cards, ran my miner for 24 hours (and my god was that an adventure trying to optimize the procedure and learn how to overclock and what not).

So now I have a BitCoin. Major apologies if this (being my second thread ever on these forums) is in the wrong place again, but how on Earth do I turn this BitCoin into cash now that I've got it? I have the BitCoin program, but it keeps saying 0.00 balance. When I goto my DeepBit site and goto the My Account page, it no longer says I have a Bit Coin, or BTC, at the top - as when I clicked the payment button and selected the amount of coins I had listed in blue at the top, it subtracted them and put it in my "payments" section immediately. But where has the coin gone to now?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! 

Alright, the best fix I had a friend advise me to go with, not sure if this will be helpful for anyone else. But anyway, he said take my clock speed to 975 and not all the way up to 1000 MHz, I think I'm writing that right (bear with me, I'm very new to all this overclocking stuff). He said at 975, the card will work great without having to tamper with any voltages at all. Stock voltages should be just fine he said.

That being said, I'm averaging 275/280 MHash/s now. Its a 20 MHash/s drop per card, but its better than losing close to 70 MHash/s on a single card I guess. Hope this helps anyone else who is having issues. Might want to toy around with different speeds and find out what your cards can handle.

I did end up switching to Afterburner as suggested. But now the second card crashes in poclbm when running overclocked because Afterburner will not let me adjust my voltage at all. It is greyed out. Any idea how to work around this? Originally, I couldn't even adjust my clock speed past 875 MHz until I did the EULA trick in the config file. Is there a similar trick for voltage?

Hello everyone, I'm new here so I'm terribly sorry if this is an inappropriate topic for this forum. I just setup two Radeon HD 5830 cards to mine for me and I'm using Radeon Trixx to overclock them, well, one of them. I got it to jump from 235,000 khash/s to nearly 300,000 khash/s. But I can't get it to overclock my second card, or even see the second card, does anyone know how to do this? I would greatly appreciate it, thank you!
