Re: Where should I keep my bitcoins?
by

I am confused on how cold wallets and hot wallets differ. To make any transaction we still need to get access to internet. Then how are they different?
Being connected to the internet makes the wallet hot and every wallet needs to connect to the internet for any transactions.

COLD WALLETS: Are not permanently connected to a network (the internet).
HOT WALLETS: Always connected to the internet.

The delineation is the ability to be able to remove the Crypto from the internet.

We have a detailed explanation of wallets and their advantages/disadvantages here:

Re: New to Bitcoin. Should I mine or buy coin with my $6000
by

1. Should I buy bitcoin with my $6000

Not a bad option but your ROI will be a finite amount based on the rise/fall of bitcoin alone.

2. Use it to buy a 1070 GPU mining rig

Mining offers a longer and higher ROI than direct investing when using some general assumptions. As far as a 1070 rig goes, there are many better options out there based on upfront cost + energy consumption to hash rate.

3. Wait until July for new nvidia graphics card to come out (or the asicminer equihash).

This may be the best option as far as the new GPU's however you risk losing out on gains in the meantime especially as availability for the new cards will be scarce.

Re: Crypto Mining Beginners Advice

A few things to add to this are:

- Understanding past trends and speculation rises in Crypto prices. (Mining profitability always appears underwhelming at face value, so understanding a little of what the profitability will have actually been by taking into account prices in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and beyond)

- Researching and keeping up to date on the latest trends and projects. Knowing which projects have large movements and mining accordingly can produce much higher profits than sticking with 1 currency.

Feel free to PM me if you need assistance with anything!

Re: How to identify a good blockchain project?
by
Midcrypto
on 14/08/2018, 20:52:35 UTC
As said in the topic, how do you guys identify a good blockchain project or a bad one? There are so many projects being talked online...So confusing

Me first, I would check:
1. team background
2. website
3. whitepaper
4. quality of community

What about you?

Very solid qualifiers. I would also add a few things like, size/strength of market the project is intended for and who/what their competition will be.

This is the ol' direct investing vs mining discussion.

Direct Investing
Advantages: Potentially quicker ROI, Easy to liquidate
Disadvantages: Finite amount of returns, No physical value

Mining
Advantages: Potentially unlimited returns, Physical hardware will always have some monetary value
Disadvantages: Potentially slower ROI, Not easy to liquidate

Unless you are planning on watching exchanges and news feeds like a hawk it would likely be more profitable and safer for you to HODL long term. Find and research projects/crypto's you believe in and dig in for the long haul. Day trading can potentially offer bigger returns but contributes to the destabilization of the markets we see on a daily basis.

Re: AMD RX 570 4GB memory - still usable after 3-4 months of mining?
by
Midcrypto
on 14/08/2018, 15:38:53 UTC
Hello Everyone,

I am a crypto enthusiast and I made a computer from scratch. Bought everything from Amazon and built the computer. After about 4 months, I stopped Mining because of the crypto going down. It's not that I will sell my crypto but I just wanted to learn how to make a computer and a mining computer so that was that. Now, I just want to get rid of my graphics card and the whole system I built. I used it for about 4 months using nicehash miner.

There are two things in my mind. First, do you think that just after 4 months of mining, my graphics card would be reduced in performance? Secondly, if anyone of you wants to buy it off me, let me know. I live in Bristol, England.

Thanks,
Asad.

Unless the GPU was constantly running at over ~83c then there will be no loss of performance.

The state of the cryptocurrency markets is a perfect mirror to what the private bankers did in the 1910's and 1920's.

They crash the markets over and over again to buy up larger and larger stakes in the business' in order to gain control over the entire industry. Don't be fooled by the obvious manipulation, blockchain technologies are being adopted and used at an ever increasing rate across hundreds of industries and thousands of companies.

Fiat has nothing of value behind it. It has value because people use it and trust it to conduct transactions. Once it was moved off the gold/silver standard it lost all value.

Cryptocurrency is backed by something tangible, (Blockchain Technology).

Huge difference between something that has no inherent value and something that does.

Re: Somebody mining with solar panels or wind turbines?
by

Unfortunately the power produced by solar and wind energy just are not efficient enough to really financially justify using. However, hydro power can be mega efficient and produced locally almost anywhere with even the smallest amount of water flow. There are numerous different designs/products for drop in hydro turbines that can be purchased for less than $1000.

Re: Is it profitable to start small-scale rig mining nowadays?
by
Midcrypto
on 13/08/2018, 18:57:13 UTC
The biggest impact on mining profitability comes in the form of future pricing speculations.

If blockchain technology continues to penetrate different industries and it's adoption continues to grow the price of crypto will inevitably increase.

Using only real time profitability to make your decision is like finishing half a puzzle and calling it complete.

Re: mining solo
by

Has anyone tried to mine solo LYRA2Z algo, particularly IFX, what's the profit comparing to pool's mining?

Solo Mining in general can be VERY profitable. However the biggest factor to determine if it would be more profitable than pool mining has everything to do with your hashrate compared to the average. A good measuring stick is if your total hashrate is faster than 40-50% of miners. If this is the case it is probably worth giving solo mining a shot. We regularly earn 2-3x as many coins solo mining vs pool mining, however it is not applicable to every algorithm and coin.

Test it out for a couple weeks to a month and see how it goes. Unfortunately there is a luck factor involved that can majority affect the outcome but in the long run it will average out.

Re: Best equipment to mine Monero?
by
Midcrypto
on 05/06/2018, 15:02:39 UTC
It depends on your budget to determine your entry hardware.

Low Budget = RX-550 4 GB
$125/card | ~450 H/s | ~22 Watts
*BIOS Modded

High Budget = Vega 64
$675/card | ~2050 H/s | ~200 Watts
*BIOS Modded

These are really the only 2 options you want to go with. You could go the Vega Frontier Edition route too, but those cards are very hit or miss and not worth the trouble.

We have several rigs of both types, ROI is 10 months at current prices.

If you want a pre-built and configured solution at the speeds mentioned above let us know!

I would avoid the Biostar BTC platform entirely. A good 50% of them have have PCIE hardware issues significant enough to affect hashrate. Cannot be resolved via BIOS updates and it is not related to risers, drivers, GPU's or power.

Trying to build a budget rig. Is buying below on ebay a bad idea?
a)Motherboard (Asus prime Z270)
b) CPU (Celeron 3930)
c) RAM (any 4 GB)
d) PSU (corsair 1000/1200 watt)
e) GPU (mostly used RX 4xx/5xx

Newegg/Amazon are essentially as competitive as ebay and you have recourse options. If the seller has a good rating you are probably safe though.

Vertcoin should be added. Even though, lyra ASICs have probably developed but still it doesn't matter, what matters os the stance of devs towards keeping the coin ASIC resistant and I think once the lyra ASIC becomes officially confirmed Vertcoin devs will do the required modification to keep it ASIC resistant.

The very first thing on Vertcoin's site says "ASIC Resistant Decentralization" which is exactly the stance needed.
