Re: 2017 the best year for bitcoin and 2018 the worst ??

Total crypto market will finish the year under 300 billion IMO. Investors are being blinded by the false premise that the "institutional money" is coming. The institutional money has been deployed long ago! Bill Millers hedge fund bought bitcoin back in 2014, Peter Thiels did so in 2016. These guys aren't idiots they NEVER buy high, and they most definately don't buy after the retail investor has bought.

Re: If ICOs are securities

It will probably not happen I think this really would not be good. All new project try not to be called as security and design their currency regarding this issue, so I don't expect big crisis.

I think it's very likely to happen. The SEC has already unofficially said that it views all ICOs as securities. Coinbase released an index fund and poloniex taken over by circle indicates that they are moving towards a more regulated, securitized environment.
What does this mean for the average investor holding tokens bought in an ICO?

Can someone break down what it means to the average investor if the SEC declares all ICOS and most altcoins securities? Will it only affect US citizens? What does it mean for the coins I bought in ICO and have sitting in my wallet?

Getting past the "Accredited investor" problem
by
MiddleFingerToTheMan
on 01/03/2018, 13:12:57 UTC
Is it possible for non accredited investors to buy into presales etc as part of a syndicate or something?
Can a non-accredited investor buy a security at an early stage?
How does one go about doing this?

You'll get very little info about a token sale. The devlopers are remaining tight lipped

I get confused with this accredited investors talk above, is it that the Orchid protocol will not be open to public sale? or only private sale will be conducted, if that is the case why bother opening an thread here in forum to entice interested members of this project, i think there should be more clarification regarding the sale of this token imo Undecided

There is no public sale for Orchid, it's for private investors only.
I agree 100%, it's fucking stupid starting a thread about something we won't be able to particpate in: "Oh here's a nice project, oh but we forgot to mention that none of you can participate"

Money is not the only thing that matters.

Orchid protocol is under my radar since december, there will be any sale or is it everything already closed?
I really support the idea, I am fascinated by the WP.
In my opinion TOR itself should be tokenized, it would be an useful use case.

They're using the SAFT model (simple agreement for future tokens), same as filecoin. Accredited investors only as the tokens will be classified as securities. $130 million hard cap.

Been in crypto for many years and I don't think I have ever been as excited about a project as I am about this. I don't know how many people realize how revolutionary this is but this can unlock doors for millions of oppressed people around the world. This has the potential to make information truly free once again. This will restore the Internet to it's former glory as it was before governments started censoring it to high heaven.

I would invest in a project like this out of principle alone. Only thing I want check out now is the team behind the project. Any links available? A challenging project like this must have capable people behind it or else it will be difficult to pull it off.

Team is David L. Salamon, Gustav Simonsson, Brian Vohaska, and Brian J. Fox with
Stephen F. Bell, and Steven Waterhouse, Ph.D (Taken from the whitepaper). All have good technical backgrounds & experince running multiple projects.

Agree, project is great, but unless you're an accredited investor then forget about it.

People get your heads out of the sand. Stop listening to LUNATICS like John McAfee and James Altucher for financial advice. It's popping in full swing and we'll see 2k in a few more months. Bitcoin will rise again but not for a while. It's obvious to anyone with a brain that this tether fraud has been propping up the price. What we're seeing now is bitcoin crashing without the "tether support" to eat up all the sell walls. I remain bullish long term but why lose 90% of your capital stubbornly hodling??

The next few months are going to be rough, we get rekt until about mid year, where I see bitcoin going below 4k. Hopefully there will be some investment vehicles for institutional money to pour in by then, if that happens then we'll see a multi trillion dollar crypto total market cap.

From their official website:

Who are the investors?
To support Orchid Labs and its mission, the company has raised $4.7M seed SAFT (Simple Agreement for Future Tokens) from investors including Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz, DFJ, PolyChain Capital, Metastable, Blockchain Capital, Crunchfund, Struck Capital, Compound VC, and several other funds and angel investors.

Seems this project raised enough and has not any intention to do public sale.

They are raising more but it will be from accredited investors only as far as I know.

why there is just 6 pages of reply here, i think its a great project and the ANN already stared on April last year, it should not be like this, it deserve for more attention

Do you even crypto? Shit projects = tons of pages & hype, quality projects = no pages & no hype. /joke
Seriously though, it was the same with Polkadot. One of the biggest and most ambitious projects in the space with an unbelievable team and there was like 6 total pages on bitcointalk about it.

The project sounds great with a potential team. Is there any info on token distribution anywhere??

We haven't released information on our next public donation period just yet.  Smiley

Be sure to sign up for the newsletter at https://dfinity.org/ to get updates on fundraising when they're released!

Hi there, will there be a public sale for sure? Can you comment on how likely it is? thanks

Ok I've looked into this more. It's completely privately funded, there's no ICO.
What's the point in starting a thread if no ones actually able to invest in it!!
This "accredited investor" BS needs to stop.
there was no such information
Ok then, I'm not an accredited investor & I want to invest. How do I do it?

...And you get rewarded to be a relay.

Ok I understand it now. More relays = faster, more secure network due to being incentivised to be a relay. So this will be a faster more secure Tor.

Yes I looked at the whitepaper but I still don't get why someone would use Orchid over a VPN or Tor.
Again am I missing something obvious here? It seems VPNs work fairly well and that Orchid would only be used by the ultra paranoid? I have western friends working in the Middle East (which has highly restricted internet) and they all use VPNs successfully to access whatever sites they want.
I'm open to being convinced otherwise. Thanks.

Hi there,
Maybe I'm missing something obvious here, but what is the difference between this & VPN or Tor?
People in countries with censored internet can just use VPNs to bypass the restrictions. Why would anyone use Orchid?
Just genuinely curious as this was the first question I had when I looked at the website.
Thanks.
