Your bitcoins ultimately rely on the government to maintain the electrical grid and internet infrastructure, this is one of the reasons pro-big government folks like myself like them so much.  When people use currency like gold or ammunition in the event of an emergency they can trade and barter with it freely, when we use bitcoins control of the market is in the hands of the government.
The WWW internet infrastructure was inherited from the failed investments of interactive TV. The government had nothing to do with that.

I would know. I lost a lot of money.

You know nothing about the internet, Atlas.  It was a government project through and through.

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2012/07/wsj-mangles-history-to-argue-government-didnt-launch-the-internet/

Regardless of where it was inherited from, however, it is undeniable government control is possible at this point.  Connections were shut down during the Arab Spring, for example.  You have to work around that to get your message out.  A currency that relies on internet will not work in that situation as well as gold or ammunition will.

Ponyboy, I have been using the internet since you were in diapers. Now, if your momma and papa can't help pay for your college and you need Uncle Sam to help you, I can understand the government might be your friend. It has never been mine.

That is probably the most deluded thing I've read around these parts. 1% of world GDP is 700 billion US dollars.

Sorry, I mistyped and put the decimal point in the wrong place. I believe .01% of GWP within a year is possible. This is still $7 Billion.

Bitcoin seems to be be one of the "stickiest" of World GDP currencies, ie, the kind that doesn't strengthen in value the more it is used (as others would expect it to). Basically, to put it in economic terms, our M3 is too high, no one trusts the currency enough to leave any significant value in it, especially the black market dealers which probably make up more of Bitcoin than we are willing to admit. I do think we could represent .01% of World GDP, but it will be with a currency that has such a high turn-over rate that we wouldn't enjoy the price we'd expect from it. Volume-wise I think the network can handle $7 billion per year's worth of transactions, though.

I am very new to Bitcoin and I am already seeing this thing as the new gold. I couldn't trust anything more than a currency backed by the internet. Ever since the 90s Dotcom bubble, I knew things were changing and money is only next in line.

So what's not to trust?

Many people my age don't trust new technology. They like things to be traditional. People should be free to go backwards but I am moving forward. Go Bitcoin!

What is your position in this affair, Mr. Seale?

I am an investment scout for Wendon Group and other funds. Part of my role is to monitor past investments.

I facilitated Bitcoinica Consultancy's take-over of Bitcoinica and made my knowledge of the business available to them.

Bitcoinica Consultancy had exclusive responsibility for Bitcoinica's daily operations in all respects, including hot wallet management.

I'd like to thank your company for taking the initiative then. Give my compliments to the chief.

Great image, Kevin!

According to this http://soundcloud.com/brainopera/following, you're in NY. Have you tried out Meze Grill? And, would you be so kind as to go over the OnlyOne studios and give an interview on how you're going to return all the stolen Bitcoinica funds? While there, don't forget to exchange BlowBobs.

ZT, don't tell me you are an Obama fan, seriously?

Smiley

I am trying to imagine how Obama would "free" Tibet without drone striking the entire region.

If the government shuts down a good portion of internet service throughout the US, will my Bitcoins still be waiting for me when things come back online?

Even on investor boards full of pumpers and dumpers, I don't see the hostility that goes on here.

How do most of you put up with this?

It surprises me that Zhou wouldn't speak exclusively through an attorney with the amount of money involved.

The evidence that is building up here is going to make the plantiff's job very easy.

Thanks for the input Atlas. Aren't you permabanned?
I think you need to reread that other topic. You're mistaking me for someone else.

It surprises me that Zhou wouldn't speak exclusively through an attorney.  These are some serious accusations and he's providing evidence with no real strategy.

The evidence that is building up here is going to make the plantiff's job very easy.
